You're a life saver!!
thanks for all the great content and honesty in your videos
Great tip for a common problem wherever there is ceramic tile. The hardest part is matching the color of the tile. Another tip that I have seen is to use common nail paint/polish, which comes in almost limitless colors, so a close match to your tile is not impossible.
Nice :) my first construction mentor told me that a measure of a good carpenter is his ability to fix screw
Ups that applies to my trade finish spraying to.
Very useful video, thanks for sharing! I know it was months ago, but my son just dropped a weight and took a chip out of a tile and this will help me fix it. Your videos are always helpful, thanks for putting them up.
I did the same thing with a weight today!!! Did it work for you?
thank you so much! PERFECT solution.
That was great, I like your chill and calm nature about little mistakes
Yeah others in this situation would get wound up and upset about the mistake
Nice idea on the color matching. When I see a chip, I just want to chisel up the whole floor and start over with my blank canvas and create the wonderful floor that should have been there in the first place!
Not always in the budget! Cheers and have a great Christmas!
Love this. Every job has mistakes. True professionals know how to make seamless repairs. Many thanks.
Cheers and have a great Christmas!
Just chipped corner of a brand new piece of shower wall tile trying to clean thinset out of the grout line! I am debating whether to try repairing following your example, or just take a hammer and tear it out and replace. So frustrating! The positive is that the tile is 8" X 20" ceramic tile and popped (superficial) corner off. I may give this a shot instead of tearing the whole piece of tile out! Thanks for sharing the tip!
Love your videos straight to the point, your a good teacher, don't stop!!
NEVER!!!!!Cheers and Have a great Christmas!
Excellent advice.
Great tip! I have a couple really small nicks on my basement floor that are hard to see, but still bugs me! I needed this video.
Have at it Picasso. good luck. Cheers!
Wow! Thank you!
I chipped a tile with a dropped hammer! 6 years ago! I'm going to try this! Thank you!
Let me know how it turns out. Merry Christmas. Cheers!
thank you for all your great videos. have a great Christmas.
Thank You Lisa, A very Merry Christmas to you as well. Cheers!
Great tip from a great guy 👍
Nice tip thanks!
I have a chip on a tile on the wall of my shower stall. Would this fix work well on a vertical surface? Your videos are a great source of info, thanks!!!
A practical guide for normal folks, thanks!
That should be our channel motto! Cheers and have a great Christmas.
Wow thank you for that !
I'm glad you don't sound so sick anymore. I was getting worried
Excellent ~ Thank you!
Cheers Robert, Thanks for watching! and Have a great Christmas!
Hey Jeff. Any tips on doing this with a matte finish porcelain tile. It looks like natural stone. Thanks!
awesome trick, thank you Jeff. btw Merry xmas and happy new year !!!!
Thanks Jack, merry Christmas and happy new year to you as well. Cheers!
loved this video! But Im missing a smaill one inch triangle size piece of porcelain tile that broke. Can I use this same technique? Thanks again
Wow i love your tip thank you for share 😘😘😘
Glad to help Joanni! Cheers and Have a great Christmas!
A pro is someone who knows how to fix their mistakes. Great video
Say that! Cheers and have a merry Christmas!
Great job Jeff! Merry Christmas to you and your family :)
Thanks Andy, Merry Christmas to you and yours as well. Cheers!
Oh Matty, accidents happen; & we get a video out of your mistake, THANKS! Wish video was longer; cuz this is my favourite Home DIY type channel on RUclips & Look Forward to new video EVERY WEEK☺️. Thanks again for great tip, as have used those types of things before, but didn't know able to mix paints/stains to get the colour you want(yep, know oil based needs oil paint/stain)👍🏻👍🏻
Was hoping you could do a video on tile & grout repair around a fireplace. Have grout crack & missing from couple spots on fireplace where grout line is around fireplace itself with NOTHING behind it for support(never seen anything like this before), & wondering if that's why everything is falling apart etc... If want pics let me know & be happy to email them to(just in case don't understand what I mean...).

glaze and oil are compatible. Cheers! and Have a great Christmas!
You have saved my life
Boom. Awesome as always
Thanks Jack, Cheers!
Merry Christmas Jeff to you and your family.
Cheers Larry, Loving the new picture of you. Have a great new year. I hope you enjoyed the holidays
You could also try super glue and baking soda. It dries up in a minute and is super hard. The color comes out a whitish gray. You can shape it with a razor and fine sandpaper. The finish is like a matte finish not glossy though.
Great tip...never knew that...once again i am the student...RenoNinja bathroom combat tips.
Hey Cudda Brown, we are all students in life, the secret is to never stop learning. Cheers and I hope you and your family have an awesome Christmas!
Thank you for all your help and details on all your videos. This chipped tile repair, I'm hoping will work with a crack across a 10x10 floor tile. However, the reason for checking it out... I'm looking for a video to help with old grout. I have tried everything to clean it. Huge area, 1st floor entry, hallways and bathroom. 2" Clay tile put in 40 years ago. Can I scrape off a layer and re grout?
Hi Patti, you can definitely re grout.
Nice job.
Cheers and have a great Christmas!
Thanks
Our pleasure John! Cheers and Have a great Christmas!
That's a really useful video! Could you sometime do a tutorial on how to fill out the spaces between the boards in an old herringbone parquet floor?
We will be doing a floor refinishing video this spring on wide plank soft wood flooring. The trick to filling holes is the same no matter what the pattern. Cheers1
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY thanks for the video. Do you have any tips on fixing glass mosaic tiles? My contractor just installed some glass mosaic tiles in my shower niche, and I noticed some of them are cracked because he was too rough when handling them.... Of course he didn't bother to tell me 😠
I need to fix a chip in wood look type tile right in the middle of the tile in the middle of the kitchen. It's not shiny tile. Advice? And yes, these tips are awesome.
Could you do a video on repair tile cracked in the shower stand?
Another great video. Hopefully I never have to do this.
Thank you very interesting and I will use it
Thank you for the tip. Hope you didn’t yell to much when it happened. Lol merry Christmas to you and your family and have a happy and healthy new year!!!
That scene is on the editing room floor! Cheers and have a great Christmas!
"A little dab will do ya" . Old enough to remember the Brill Cream commercials....I love it!
Awesome
Cheers!
nice job
Thanks Alan, Merry Christmas!
What about the browning part around the tile?? How do you fix them when they are crack?
how about acrylic nail polish in the closest matching color ? colored epoxy is what I use on vertical dings with foil and then painters tape to hold the foil
Thank you for this video!!Could you give me advice on cracked floor kitchen tile replacement. Its quite a few video on RUclips how to replace it but it’s n my case it underfloor heating there.
Thank you in advance,
remove the grout first then use a hammer with basic force to break the tile and remove as you go. Cheers!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Thank you Jeff.Give it to go this weekend!))
3:20am and I'm watching this because this guy's videos are always great, and I'm still not sure how to handle the uneven tile in the kitchen of my first home I just moved int.
Hi George, Merry Christmas !
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Merry Christmas to your family as well sir. Thanks for all the great videos!
I wish you a happy life and you and your family
You as well. Cheers
I’ve never seen this trick. Very neat.
I still got a few more up my sleeve. Cheers and Have a great Christmas!
hi , i have shower floor tile that looks pourous in a spot,,, it just looks like it is worn down,,, can i use this trick on it to seal and waterproof it?,, thanks
What product is he referring to as glaze that comes with sandpaper which is applied once color is dried? Thanks.
Nice
Glad you liked it!
Are you doing this on porcelain tile? I have a small chip on ceramic floor tile. Would the porcelain glazing be compatible?
I have the same issue
Thanks for this video. Hypothetically, if you made a mark on a subway tile when you used a grinder to cut the tile and then you unprofessionally used that tile. Would this be a good way to cover the black mark made by the grinder?
perhaps or a wider silicone joint.Cheers|!
Another way to remove scuff marks is to use methyl hydrate and scrub the mark out or try a magic eraser!
Lol "hypothetically"
It usually darkens after dry.
Can you use enamel paint instead?
I chipped a shower wall tile (vertical). This solution seems too runny to be used on a wall tile. What would you recommend for that?
Hey I ran into the same thing and don't want to have to replace this tile. Did you figure anything out?
epoxy is pretty thick, maybe the fast drying epoxy in "layers" that way you can gauge how quick it does or doesnt run... and if it does a little just take your time and sand it back plum with the wall. Im no expert. Also you could fill it in the clay or something similar a little receesed and then gently, slowy paint on the glaze as he uses in this vid and it could/should seal the clay below it. I know you posted a year ago, but it would be nice to see a response about if you think these ideas are good and what you ended up doing, thanks. Hope the year has started well for ya.
I just chipped yesterday corner piece of shower tile I installed this week when trying to dig thinset overrun out of the grout line. I am so frustrated -- debating whether to try to patch or take a hammer and knock it out and replace. I appreciate the question and please post if any new information regarding repair success or, failure! Thanks!
Could you do a video on repair tile floor cracked in the shower stand?
I need this to!!
2019 happy new year
I hope you are enjoying the Holidays my Egyptian friend!
For vertical surfaces or floors in only one application, thicken epoxy with wood flour (very fine dust from the bag on your sander) until you have a peanut butter texture or. If you only have 5 minute epoxy, mix only one part thoroughly with the filler and colors, then once homogenous, add the second part and mix again, but quickly. degrease the surface and apply. sand when fully cured.
So I ran into a problem after installing my porcelain tile, I noticed some of the tiles had small scratches into it's glaze after I installed and grouted. Is there any way to fill in these hairline scratches? They are super thin but can be seen by the light's reflection and some of them can barely catch a nail. I almost want to try a non abrasive car wax on them. Love the channel thank you for all the tips!

Merry Christmas to you Sherif
Do you have any tips for fixing a small chip on a quartz countertop?
yes i do. use crazy glue and a razor . cheers!
Good to know. I got a whole bunch of black subway tile from lowes and sat on them for a half a year waiting to get to install them. Boy was I in for a surprise when i started to look through them and saw all sorts of scuffed tiles or pitting in the glaze... got a great deal. But I have over 180 tiles that are mostly perfect, 150 with minor damage that wont look bad under normal lighting but then 200 that need to be fixed or conveniently split and used strategically to avoid damage and will still have noticeable imperfections when I'm done. Luckily my wife loves to paint, so this might have saved us heart ache.
Anyone have experience with this? Can I treat it like chip repair on a car? Will I be able to polish the surface after to get a shine? Such a stressful time spending hundreds of dollars to find out I didnt plan for catastrophic level problems in my products.... which I only started learning during this remodel. I did plan for some problems due to the nature of DIY learning, but man... I didnt expect to have 1/3 of my product to be nearly unusable.
Can I let the glaze dry slightly before applying? I have a chipped backsplash tile and I'm worried the glaze will run right down the tile I am trying to repair
yes and apply with thin coats as well. Cheers!
Can that glaze be used to cover a minor scratch on a bathtub?
A small scratch i usually cover with simple porcelain chip fix. Can get it at ace hardware or any other hdware store
When you add stain should stain be waterproof or is the porcelain glaze waterproof please ?
He mentions at around 1:25 that the stain is oil based (just as the porcelain glaze) so the colours mix well together. it should be waterproof after drying completely
Great video. Agreed we all make mistakes, but being a paying client you”d expect the tile to be replaced, and builders usually get extra anyway that has already been paid for by the client. If ya doing it ya self well maybe it doesn’t matter. I think messing about with trying to match colours ect and mixing you’d have a new tile in place waiting to be grouted and the sin is gone which ya looking for anyway.
Hi Jack, being a smart contractor I informed the client that since the tile was not available in the event of a chip. They would have to replace the entire floor or use a patch. they chose to repair and save the money. Cheers! Had they had a tile available I would have been happy to replace it. Cheers!
Thanks Jeff I appreciate that. I just wouldn't do it that way. Any smart contractor to quote yourself would come up with other options, and repairing a hole in the floor should've been your last option. I can give you at least 5 right now and it would have been a damn sight better than a repaired hole in the floor I can tell ya. I can't accept your reply. I think that's a dead set cop out, and ya trying to save money so as to save profits, and that's the usual speal you get when trades people have to put their hands in their own pocket when they mess up and they don't like doing that, that's for sure. Come on Jeff, your a great tradesman and bogging up a hole is a last and only option you came up with after years of experience? People aren't that gullible my friend, and the irony of it all, is the client wont remember the great job that was done. rather he'll be looking down at the bugged up hole in the floor for the rest of his days, and he keep the memory alive as he watches it on youtube sitting in the bath knowing he 's only feet away.... Lol..
Is that stuff thick enough to fix a chip on wall tile?
If the liquid is thin, then you'd need several thinner coats and keep an eye on it to wipe off anything that runs. You could also let the mix harden a bit before you apply, stirring it for consistency, but don't use cardboard if you do that, use something non-porous like aluminum or plastic. Just to make sure you can layer it, check the packaging or call the 800 number on the package to make sure you can layer the product on top of itself. To get it flat, you may need to sand it on your second-to-last layer, but be sure to mask off the good tile if you're going to do that.
My mind is blown! Lol
Hi sal i have a problem hope you can help. I bought 2.2 pound of grout in a box. Got it in a powder form. Added water so i got maybe drywall compound consistency. Now i let the grout 48 hours today and its still like not happening. I can take a screwdriver and break it from the grooves between the tiles. Where is the problem. I didnt wait the 5 mins like they say but i mean is it that important?
Hello Ofri! you left a comment on my video by accident. I believe you were looking foe sal diblasi, cheers!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY oh haha i actually wanted to ask for your opinion too so i just copied the question. Maybe you can give your output on the situation too?
When you say "oil based paint' at Michaels, do you mean the same paint you'd use for oil painting (that comes in the tubes, or something else)? I'm looking to tint some white touchup glaze a light yellow to match a tile chip and a darker yellow for a tub scuff. If anyone could give some clarification on this it'd be greatly appreciated.
did that myself nice to be confirmed
How did it work for you? I have had great success over the years with this approach. Cheers and have a great Christmas!
Please, I was expecting bondo first and then this... Do you ever use bondo in this case?
I have never tried it. I am sure it could fill fine but I am also after the glaze look. Cheers and Have a great Christmas!
I suppose if the chip was really deep, you could bondo as a filler to bring up the height and just top coat with the porcelain paint.
or do 2 coats of the porcelain filler. Cheers!
Bob Ross of tile repair
Nice!
Heat it up with a hairdryer BEFORE the repair and it’ll dry faster.
Also, clean the surface with iso alc for good adhesion.
Great tips! Have a great Christmas!
And you are also my dear friend
Alternative solution. Get a cheap gray nail polish. Less hassle.
Good tip but whoever caulked the tub needs a lesson on how to caulk neatly!
I was surprised to hear you recommend oil paint. I’m an artist and when I paint in oils they sometimes take two weeks to dry. I’m assuming you wouldn’t want a bathroom out of commission for that long. Does something in the chemical makeup of the porcelain repair make the oil paint dry quicker or am I misunderstanding what type of paint you’re recommending.
Also, if I can find a repair kit with the right color(s) is it better to use the paint or tint they provide rather than oils?
All their seems to be is porcelain paint Help ?
The white part is porc-a-fix aka porcelain chip fix aka tub and tile touchup... You might be able to get away with something less industrial, like a porcelain paint, if the issue in a place where people don't walk. If the paint isn't shiny, you would need a topcoat, something like an automotive clear coat, which is meant for heavy abuse from users.
But my tile is very glossy
👍👍🎅
Cheers my friend, Have a great Christmas!
👍👍👍🎅
NICE, Love the emoji, Cheers and Have a great Christmas!
Ok Bob Ross
can I get a shout out
Here's a tip, replace the tile
tile can’t be replaced...over 20 years old and in my case its in the kitchen, dining area and two bathrooms
3 hours for one chip
thank you, but a tile chipped in the shower.
First
Nicely Done! Cheers and Have a great Christmas!
should have shown the final result for youtube to judge :D
I am sure we will have a better picture in the reality renovision episode coming out in 2 weeks on this project. Cheers and Have a great Christmas!
What sort of witchcraft is this?
LOL, please don't burn me at the stake! Have a great Christmas Ttf Web
I’m looking for my own diy purposes but if I had hired a professional and they chipped my tile they would be replacing my tile on their dime for their own mistakes.
Thank you for the upload!
No worries Red Yumi! Cheers! and have a great Christmas!
