Thank you for stressing the importance of shopping our wardrobe, making time to "play" with our clothes and developing our personal style at a time when many style youtubers all look the same and wear very similar clothes. I am 58 years young, I love my wardrobe and the fact that it's grown organically over the years - I buy it when I see it, not when I need it. For example in Autumn/Fall 2024 I bought some lovely jackets from Zara, Mango and Massimo Dutti, but I am far less keen in their new collections. Same with footwear, your favourite brand can suddenly discontinue your preferred style of boots for example. I buy multiples, which may seem silly, but I've never regretted it, on the contrary, I have regretted not buying multiples. Shoes, jackets, etc. can easily wear out if you use them a lot, it makes me feel good to know that if they do, I have another pair, because I find it hard to see something I really love, I can afford and also suits my petite body shape in the first place. So when I find the right piece, sometimes I buy 2, even 3!
You're so right about changing body shape, including shoe size. From age 40, my biggest shock was to discover that the arches in my feet had fallen, as my podiatrist pointed out. I had to go from a UK size 4 (European 37) to a size 5 (38). It was heartbreaking having to get rid of my shoe collection that I'd built up over years. My feet were already fairly flat to start with and I'd never heard of this problem before. I remember reading an article by a podiatrist that said that it is not unusual for people over 40 to go up a foot size per decade! I thought I was done, but now, age 58 I find that size 5 (38) is sometimes a little snug. I had to reorder a couple of pairs of boots in a size 6 (39) in the past year. Please bear this in mind ladies, don't buy shoes that are just right t in the first place or you might find that they are tight next year. Mary Janes are great because you can buy slightly bigger shoes and they won't fall off you, same with boots. Treat your feet well or you will develop painful bone and nail problems. PS It's good to get into the habit to use a shoe horn when putting on boots and shoes, it keeps them in good shape. I also stuff all my shoes and boots and handbags to keep them looking their best and last longer.
Excellent video! Just adding that style continues to evolve. In my 60s I have embraced this. The evolution may have slowed a bit but it has been a fascinating journey.
This is such a useful collection of advice, thank you! It's very timeless advice, which I appreciate. Must look up your video on understanding proportions too as that's one of those things I just don't get in relation to myself.
Wisdom! 👍 I'd go so far as to say that, at a certain point, it is helpful to stop looking at Pinterest and other style platforms altogether to really get into your own skin. Sometimes when I am trying on an outfit, I close my eyes and just feel the clothes on my body before ever looking in a mirror. That can be a very accurate predictor of whether or not an outfit will work for me
You have the best and most useful advice Jamie! I like that we should just wear the special pieces, and the more we wear them, the better we can style those, the more satisfied we’ll feel and less likely to have fomo or wanting to buy more clothes. ❤
The shorter jacket would look amazing if it was slightly shorter so you can get it altered, no need to discard it. Your hips are not wide! But wearing bootcut jeans rather than those you are wearing would make them look narrower, if this is what you're worried about. But I think you are over-worrying about your slim hips!
Looking great Jamie! I am going to have to second that motion! Also the placement of the white text on the 3 outfits was hard to read. Completely agree with not saving your outfits for the future that never seems to come, yet I am still doing it. 🤷🏻♀️ I am going to have to do better on that front. 😊
@@mademoisellejaimeI usually go back and pause if I want more time. Sometimes I want to think about what I learned and the pause lets me be in control of the time I need.💕

The long black ruched dress you tried on looks so chic on you

Yes, this 100%!!

Great advice. Thanks so much.
Jamie, could you leave the writing next to the pictures up a little longer? I can't get them read quickly.
Sure I’ll do this for future videos, no problem 😊 if you pop the video on pause you should be able to read through for this one x

Right? At 58, my cashmere sweaters no longer fit. Was I, really, a small? Now, they're an under layer, in winter.
It's one of those things that seems so obvious - I don't know why I made such a point to overlook it in my early twenties!
