So sorry about your brother. I have lost 2 sisters, a brother and Mom and Dad. I understand your grief. All I can say they want us to be happy. Miss them, love them and love yourself. I love you❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This touched on great issues for me. Grief.. yes it takes time to “get yourself together “. I think you put it… and “don’t give a fark” yes! I needed that!😁💞
I am so sorry for your loss. I have lost both parents and my daughter, who was 32 and had 10 month old baby that needed her. I have been lost since all these losses and thank goodness I was able to retire from public work because my brain does not work the same anymore. Decision fatigue is a real thing. Hugs to you
Thank you so much for all of your kind and support words. It means a lot to hear I'm not the only one who has experienced this mind 'F'. I hope that doesn't sound insensitive but I think you all know that it can feel lonely sometimes in grief, especially if it messes with you in other ways. So thank you so much for your comments. I know he wouldn't want me to dwell. I can always hear him in my head "Keep it mov'n Emmy", so that is 2025, a new beginning, keeping it moving :-)
giving zero Fs is the best style tip imo - be playful, emotional, experimental, and a touch daring 🖤 other ppl don't care as much as we think they do, and we can't please everyone in this world anyway (esp strangers we think are juggling us!)
That is so true, people don't care as much as we think because they're worried about themselves and what other people think of them....viscous circle. Thank you for your comment!
"Stop caring" is always great advice. I'm 54 and I work with a gal who is 30, and the two of us are the only ones at work who are into fashion. We were just discussing the other day people who say things like, "What are you so dressed up for?" and how you have to learn to not care what anyone thinks and just wear the things you love whenever and wherever and however you want to wear them.
Oh my gosh that is so true!! That statement, you really have to learned to just embrace it right! "Because it's a beautiful day" "Because this is who I am" "For myself". Love that you have a fashion friend at work :-) Thank you for sharing a bit of your story with us!
I just started watching your videos. I love your style. I am from Minnesota too.! it’s hard to do a lot of styling here because of weather is so challenging! I have many jackets for all seasons. I love your style. I’m going to be working on finding my style that I feel comfortable in and getting rid of the extra clothing that I bought just because I felt like I needed to. I have a lot of mismatching and things I never wear. You rock.
Thank you. I needed to hear this. I’ve been in my own head this year about how/what to wear to work. I’m the oldest person by far in my department and all of sudden I’ve become self conscious about it. Need to watch this again and get out of my own way and just wear what I like and makes me happy
As much as you have struggled in 2024, your channel and videos have helped me find my style and confidence this year through my own struggles! We share a lifelong love of denim. I need a video from you that summarizes your favorite denim brands and fits. I try to thrift the denim brands and pieces you recommend.
That is such a kind compliment! I am so glad the channel has helped you! I have some great denim finds and I will try to get that out at some point. Thanks so much for your comment!
Seriously how relaxing to watch you talk about fashion in front of the fire? I always look forward to your videos Emily and get excited with my wardrobe because of them. I am sorry to hear about feeling impostor syndrome after loosing your brother. I have lost my sister 5 years ago and i must say grief hits you in weird ways. Thanks for being open about this, you are not alone.
I'm so sorry you lost your sister. It is so hard and unexplainable. And yes, so crazy how it hits you in ways you'd never expect. Thank you for your kind and supportive message :-)
WOW! I hate to hear of your loss and stress but thank you so much for sharing your personal perspective. It's so helpful. I also appreciate how beautiful your videos are. The cozy background actually relaxed my mind to absorb the information!
Thank you for being so vulnerable on camera. That’s tough. I’m so pleased you are back to being so fabulous! Unfortunately there is no book on how long it takes to work through grief. You got this, girl xx
Grief is crazy! It makes you think you are doing so well one day and that kicks the crap out of you the next. Thank you for your thoughtful message :-)
I spend a good amount of time thinking about my outfits in that I choose what I'm wearing for the entire week every Sunday, right down to the socks even. As a person who hates mornings, It saves so much time and helps me utilize my clothing thoughtfully. It's gotten to be that my Sunday night clothing assembly time has become my most favorite time of the week, an awesome way to unwind from the week had and great way to look forward.
So sad to hear about the loss of your brother, thats hard for yourself and your family! deepest condolences to you Emily!!!...You look amazing in all the clothes you wear and not caring what other people think is half the battle!!! well done you!!!!....love from margaret in South Australia...
The perfect video for me today, I'm going to a very traditional funeral tomorrow. Should be straightforward, it's an all- black affair, and yet it's taken me an hour. I'm then on the road for work for a few days... Going to tackle that tomorrow night. This video really will help me pack clever! Going bright, clean and edgy ❤
I love your videos. Your style and mine could not be more different, but your presentations always thrill me. You illustrate the ART of getting dressed, and now, the psychology of true style. ❤
Appreciate you! Yes. Wear what you love. Thank you for this reminder to us about having patience with ourselves. Taking a step-by-step approach (finding a go-to formula...like the 2 by 3 method for a balanced elevated look or the 3 piece go to etc.). Love your edgy style! You are an amazing styling icon in my books. 😊
I have to smile because you and I are sooo opposite in many ways. I’m a pattern freak and dress freak. Love a dress. Especially a shirt dress. Jeans are a must. My cashmere and silk and cotton sweaters are a go to. My skirts also. But color and pattern is all over my closet. But the reason I watch you is because you are my pixie cut tomboy minimal twin that lurks inside me. 🥰❤ I’m just the pixie cut flamboyant artist grandma you didn’t know you had. 😘😁
Hahaha I love that you are here! We find inspiration in our counterpoints I believe. So thank you for being you and still being here even though we don't see exactly eye to eye on everything. Wish we had more of that in this world. :-) Thank you for your comment!
Give each day your best effort! If that’s happening, what do you care what someone else thinks? You’re unique and inspiring, Emily! Thank you for that.🤗🤗
Another brilliant video, Emily. The last section especially spoke to me, found myself nodding Yes! all the way through. Inspiring, freeing, loved it. Thank you ❤.
Thanks for this one. I hope you are finding comfort around the loss of your brother as time goes on, and I love to hear that you are reclaiming your confidence. I appreciate you opening up about having struggled with your outfits this past year; I have also had a bit of a rough time with figuring out what I feel good in after some shifts in my body and other changes in my life. This has felt hard for many reasons, including the fact that putting together outfits I feel good in has been a way that I nurture and support myself, so feeling kind of lost in that part of my life felt difficult. When you, someone whose style I admire, share that you also deal with challenges around how to style yourself-it felt encouraging to know that if you can move through it, I can too. And of course, your advice is helpful. Cheering you on as you move into this year! Also, I just want to acknowledge and give appreciation for how much you have grown this past year in your cinematography and editing. So many of your videos feel like these lush, engaging short films that are a delight to watch. Also, I would never have guessed you were dealing with imposter syndrome around your 2024 outfits because you looked amazing to me! Anyway, thanks for your great content, and happy new year!
Thank you for your kind words and support - it means a lot. I'm so sorry to hear you've had some difficulties with your style as well. It is so hard to return to where we were and I don't think we ever can. I think you'll discover a new version of your style self that will be even better. I'm so glad me sharing my struggles resonated with you as I was nervous to share that part. But I'm so happy you commented this because that was my exact hope. Maybe someone else won't feel so alone in their struggles if they hear my struggles. So thank you for that! Happy new year to you too!
You're very inspiring and you look great in everything. I start my outfit every day first based on the weather, which determines my shoes, lol, then I build from there. I decided years ago if my outfit looks good, to ME then it looks good. It works for me. I've always enjoyed fashion and have learned a lot from you. I'm very sorry for your loss.
YES! Lost myself while taking care of my mom FT (She had Alzheimer's) in 2019. She and 4 others passed in 2022. (One being my bf of 14 years.) Returning after a long style funk and no longer giving AF with what I wear. Power pop concert on Wednesday, held in a museum. Thought I should look "appropriate," and similar to others. Forget that. Im wearing jeans, boots, t-shirt and a gifted, long coatigan while in Spain. Fabulous content, Emily.
I am working on building “better” basics. Good grief this has been hard for me. Quality but not outrageously expensive and simple has been a challenge. So far I love Universal Standard, Quince, Chico’s (jeans), and so far all my bags are simple Dooney. I even reduced the amount of clothes I buy because I end up reaching for my favorite items anyway. Last I will add a couple of fun t-shirts and one really nice black belt. I am so very sorry you have lost your brother. My condolences to you and your whole circle who are suffering from this loss. 💔
Thank you for the therapy!! I feel like because I am heavy I have to keep it toned down. I don't want people to think - oh, I don't even know what- bad things about me. What the @#$& am I waiting for? They are going to think Im heavy no matter what I am wearing. DUH!! I might as well look how I want to!!
Great video! I have always tempered my outfits to the people I was going to hang out with which meant many times going mainstream blah. Lately I’ve been a bit more true to myself and I usually get positive comments from strangers even if my friends are baffled or somewhat critical of me. In the end I’m happier with myself and my friends are learning to adjust ❤
Good talk and discussion of tuning into our style and sticking with it. Our developed style is uniquely our expression. 😎 I love your editing Emily, you have such a good eye for playing with the camera, the views at the end of this Vlog in front of the mirror is interesting. You obviously have camera skills along with your styling expertise, you could probably shoot a film. ✌🏽
I decluttered closet recently, made 3 compartments within the closet with a gap separating. Casual items is the largest section and culled seasonally. Outerwear goes left side closet, then casual daily. the smaller area to the right side is dressier items rarely worn. Ideal for retirees. Some minimalists do likewise.
I finally started saying to myself “no one cares…” in a good way, when I am getting ready. “They” are not analyzing my look, and if they are, as my mom used to say: they need more to do.😅
I giggled a bit when I saw the round Crate and Barrel planter with the tree sticking out. I have the same one in gray with the tree sticking out. Still trying to figure out if I’m going to fill it with something. Maybe green moss. 😂
Learning to give fewer "F's" has been the most valuable lesson of my life! It's something that I was very intentional about once I turned 50; I figured I had already given more than my fair share, anyway 😉
so sorry for your loss, I am also experiencing great grief and I now know what decision fatigue really is. I decluttered my closet, took it down to the basics, 3-4 colors, all solids, and everything matches and I can get dressed in the dark if I must. No brainier. It took such pressure off me, this is one more thing that I do not have to process and decide. I have a small closet anyway, so I needed to pare it down to a manageable amount, more organized, and everything where I could see it, no digging. All my choices are visible and are all valid choices. Some days it was just throwing something on my body to cover it up according to the season, and I already knew that it matched and worked because I had curated everything beforehand. I highly recommend this streamlined closet fix if you want to take the stress out of " what am I wearing today " .
That is so great! I'm so glad that it has helped you, especially in your grief. It's crazy how taking some control back, even if small, can be such a therapeutic thing. I'm so sorry you are experiencing grief as well. I hope you are healing. Thanks for sharing some of your story with us.
Haha neglect, ha no, but seriously I think we figured out we were watering it too much. When we had it in our sons room for a bit where we kept forgetting to water it, it did better. Also indirect sunlight vs direct seems to help it too. It's one of my favorite plants that we have.
"Stop caring about what other people think" I am super tall (just shy of 6 feet), and people literally complain to me that I make them feel short when I wear heels. So I haven't worn heels for most of my adult life! This year, I decided I'm just going to wear heels if I want to, and other people can just deal with their insecurities.
Totally with you, I'm nearly 6ft too, have totally given up worrying about making others feel short (and Welsh people are very short as a whole) and just wear what makes me feel happy. Still don't wear massive heels but that's because I'm clumsy 😂❤
Oh wow. I’m 5’ 10” and always wanted those extra inches. I loved the fact that when I was younger I was taller than most men. Didn’t date the small ones 😂
Good to see you embrace your height! I am barely 5’ and honestly, if I feel uncomfortable (which I don’t!) that is my problem! We’re all different and I have always embraced that. I dated a guy that was 6’5 and we certainly embraced the difference.
I organize my closet by color. Not only does it help me choose my outfit, but it also shows me what I wear on a regular basis. I hope that will help decide what to keep and what to get rid of! In addition, people in other regions of the country dress differently. I live in the NYC metro area, so my clothes reflect that. I wear what I want wherever I go. People say that I look sophisticated. Complement or not? I don't care. 🙂
So sorry about your brother. I have lost 2 sisters, a brother and Mom and Dad. I understand your grief. All I can say they want us to be happy. Miss them, love them and love yourself. I love you❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Never ever let that light dim
You are helping us shine our lights 😊
Love that!! Thank you!
'wear what you love' the most important advice, Emily❤
I agree! :-)

employing your declutter plan along with capsule wardrobes was a huge help. The final ah huh was utilizing the MARIE KONDO method.

Thank you so much for this video. Being al chronic overthinker it is hard to say no to every doubt in my mind. I will definitly try your tips.

TY for the IDGAF mentality with caring about what others may think of my outfit. I needed that.
Build from basics is my mantra 😊 also STOP CARING! love the video ❤

I am sorry for the loss of your brother. ❤
Love you Emily! You encourage me to be myself and not just blend.
Love that!
You've been thru a lot. Got your mojo back and mind still in tact. Good job.
Thank you!

Thanks! I always learn something new from your videos.

Good talk and discussion of tuning into our style and sticking with it. Our developed style is uniquely our expression. 😎 I love your editing Emily, you have such a good eye for playing with the camera, the views at the end of this Vlog in front of the mirror is interesting. I appreciate you noticing the style and editing! 👊 Thank you for your lovely comment!
You're in Minnesota? Ah shit. Now I have to subscribe 😂 💜💛
Haha yes!
Love your videos!!! So simple,so stylish!!!
Yay! Glad you're enjoying them.

Stay Shiny my Friend!
You too Friend!
Love this video too. Like what you said about other peoples opinions. Love that checked blazer too. Love your hair style too!
Thank you so much! Glad you liked it!
Love your style ❤❤❤
Thank you!
I finally started saying to myself “no one cares…” in a good way, when I am getting ready. “They” are not analyzing my look, and if they are, as my mom used to say: they need more to do.😅
My grandmother's name was Emily...lovely video!
Great name for a great lady I'm sure :-)
Loved this video.
I giggled a bit when I saw the round Crate and Barrel planter with the tree sticking out. I have the same one in gray with the tree sticking out. Still trying to figure out if I’m going to fill it with something. Maybe green moss. 😂
You go, girl ❤❤❤
:-)
Perfect ❤✨🙏🏼
Just in time for tea.... 🥰🥰🥰
Yay! 🙌
Learning to give fewer "F's" has been the most valuable lesson of my life! It's something that I was very intentional about once I turned 50; I figured I had already given more than my fair share, anyway 😉
Haha I hear that! Only giving 'F's' about what matters. Thanks for your comment :-)
Once,I started to not care what others thought of my dress and style,I started to get compliments on my style. Everywhere, women would comment.

Thanks for your videos. Can you address the underwear problems ?

@@EmilyWheatley, thank you. I appreciate your response. I will try to scale back on the water.
👍❤️ No lines, lottsa color! 😎
I'm a shorty (5' 2") and I give you full permission and indeed an instruction to wear the bloody heels! xxx
@@Julia1956ableme too! Wear the heels and shine your shine!
Love you Emily

🖤

👍🏻👏🏻♥️
I organize my closet by color. Not only does it help me choose my outfit, but it also shows me what I wear on a regular basis. I hope that will help decide what to keep and what to get rid of!
In addition, people in other regions of the country dress differently. I live in the NYC metro area, so my clothes reflect that. I wear what I want wherever I go. People say that I look sophisticated. Complement or not? I don't care. 🙂
I love your style ❤
