I always carry a large backpack or small duffle that fits under the seat… where I stash all my essentials, valuables and irreplaceables… as well as a packing cube with pjs, a couple of pairs of undies, a few tops (the go with my travel day bottoms) a pair of lounging bottoms or leggings and a pair of socks. That way, I don’t have to dig around my bigger carry-on, if that is being gate checked and the bag is then delayed or lost (hopefully only briefly.)

I always carry a large tote as my personal, under-the-seat, item and pack everything really important in that: devices, chargers, documents, medicines, glasses, a book and some magazines and a wrap or sweater, extra socks, etc. I also take a few “emergency” things like a change of undies and thin top, deodorant, floss and toothbrush/paste.I never travel with valuables like fine jewelry, I take only costume jewelry). I wear a small belt bag at the airport for frequently-used essentials like lip balm, my debit card or some cash for water, a last-minute cosmetic item or a snack, and Kleenex, and it can go into the tote bag when I board. I like Longchamp’s leather trimmed nylon shoulder bags for this. Unless it’s for a very short trip, I generally check a large bag anyway.

I didn't realise that theft was such a big issue at airports. My biggest fear would be if they lose my luggage with my beautiful clothes. I'm in the UK and not planning to fly again unless absolutely necessary, I'd rather take the Eurostar train to the mainland, I love trains and I'm getting a little bit more wary of the dangers of air travel as I get older. Not to mention that crowded disorganised airports make air travel seem like an ordeal these days.

A pair of cotton leggings and a silk or thin wool and/or cotton jersey, long-sleeved top are a good “emergency” outfit for most situations, certainly for when we get stuck in a hotel waiting for a new flight. It’s comfy enough to sleep in, too, if necessary. This is what I usually pack in my tote, it’s not bulky or heavy and is breathable. A stuffable down puffer or windbreaker can be useful, too, depending on the weather at home and the destination and the time of year. Wearing leggings wouldn’t be my first choice for traveling, but they’ll do fine in a pinch.

This is great info I didn’t know I needed! I’m going away in just 2 weeks and didn’t realize they sometimes ask to check carry ons.

Yes I've had this happen to me quite a few times now unfortunately - the tote is a great work around. x

It will happen to you more often if you don’t have status with an airline and are in a later boarding group.

Love the mike on ruler look! Admittedly I hardly ever go away, but I don't see the point in an airport outfit, definitely not a casual one, I'd want to dress up in my travels! I'd rather do like Victoria Beckham and look my best, any outfit is comfortable if it's the right size and cut for you. Slouchy outfits, elasticated waists, even wide leg jeans encourage me to overeat and take less care of myself, I also like to look a bit more put-together and being petite, fitted clothes look better on me.

I thought I was the only woman who did the pantyliner trick while flying. It’s better than removing my pants and underwear to replace them. The floors are too dirty at airports.

Great tips. Have been using most of these for years. The one about zippered vest/jacket to stash valuables is the best. Never even thought of that but so good. I will definitely be using that one for my next trip. Ty 💖

I fly quite a bit, and will be leaving on an international flight in two days, so I am always looking for any tips and hints so this timely. I agree with dressing in a way that doesn’t attract attention. Same with your luggage. The last thing you want to do is attract the attention of pickpockets, especially if you are getting right off the plane and onto public transit (especially if travelling to Paris😬)

I went back to Taiwan for 6 weeks. I thought I packed light but I still brought items I hardly used. Also, it completely escaped my mind that I might buy things there (and in Japan where I went for a week). I did have room in my two carryon size bags but not enough. My cousin gave me one of her big clam shell luggage. It was stuffed tight and costed me US$100 for over the weight limit.
Next time I know if I go to Asia I will bring one empty luggage lol.

I wear slip-on sneakers and doubled-up, silk socks, one pair over the other. After I go through security, I remove the outer pair and still have a clean pair on. The outer pair, at least, will be a dark color, for sure. Silk socks are the only ones really thin enough to be comfortably doubled up in our regular-sized shoes. Tabio makes great ones, they’re addicting. If I need more warmth, I wear Banana Republic’s excellent silk and cotton blend ones, they’re thicker but not too thick. I love wearing a natural-fiber (breathable) knit midi-dress for traveling, for me it’s more comfy than any trousers, even sweats or leggings. With a lightweight jacket and a scarf, I’m all set.🙂

The “metal bar” in certain boots, like cowboy boots, is called a steel shank. Some vintage shoes and modern sturdy work footwear, like those required by safety regulations on many jobsites, have them, too. These probably also have “steel toes” (steel-caps protecting the toes, built into the toebox, one can feel them, but not see them). I always had to pack my workboots (I’m an environmental geologist), not that I really wanted to clomp around airports in them, though, but they, along with my hardhat, safety vests, raingear, etc., required a whole separate suitcase, a big hassle. Often I shipped this gear in a box to the jobsite ahead of time.

I went barefoot in sandals in Hawaii that way I could wipe my feet with a travel wipe before back on my sandals. But then I am a New Zealander and thus grew up going bare foot.

4:58 Don't you have to empty your jacket pockets? Also, i'm in Canada (so maybe it's different, but shouldn't be for international travel) you have to put your laptop and phone and all electronics into one bin (or put your laptop alone in a bin, and the others go into another bin together; can't remember now)

  • @sarapanzarella97

The footwear thing! Say it louder! Closed toe shoes - it’s just gross to wear open toed shoes - the bathroom floors are disgusting. Plus - if you did have to do an emergency evacuation - which we just saw last week - you want shoes that will protect you (as a previous regional pilot I would even see parents let their kids go to the bathroom barefoot 🤢)
I was tagged for a pat down in Frankfurt because I was wearing cargo pants. Then she patted only down my back.🤷‍♀️ I think I did hear in another video about not wearing cargo pants but had forgotten. These were more like sweatpants so I wasn’t thinking about the extra pockets.

    • @Thestyleinsider.
      @Thestyleinsider.  18 часов назад +2

Ahh yes thanks for sharing about cargo pants. I've heard this before and a good reason not to wear them. The idea of kids or anyone going to the bathrooms with bare feet is just gross!!!!

The most important for me is the contention socks or tight.
20 years ago my parents and I and my baby of 2 months were having a 10 hours flight from Brussels (Belgium) to Fort de France (Martinique- Antillas).
At the arrival we were very happy to meet the family of my baby....
My father goes down the stairs with Estée in her Maxi Cosi....
He felt on the floor ...dead!
He had an VAC because of the atmospheric pression...,when you are high in the sky the pressure make your blood thiker. If you take a cardio aspirine and contention socks it' s always better. No this is happening only to the others.
The flight air companies call it " the second class Syndrôme "
Sorry Leonnie but I had to tell my story!
    Kisses from Brussels 💋
