How anyone could possibly think throwing rocks at oncoming traffic is fun is beyond comprehension. Judging by the damage to the front of her car, that rock was huge. There is something seriously wrong with these people.

Don't feel concerned these were young folks. Don't listen to any of their parents pleas for mercy. I grew up terrorized by by an older brother, who just born evil. There were no lines he wouldn't cross. My parents, I assume, because he was their first born, would defend him like no other. They got him out of trouble many times, until he beat a lady so badly and raped her, that months later in court, she looked nothing like I remembered her before as looking. After he got out of prison, he continued being abusive and violent towards others. One day we got a call that he Overdosed and was gone. I went out into the woods and cried like I've never cried before. It was because the nightmare was finally over for me. I even thanked God he was gone before he murdered someone innocent. For many years after, they would talk about him like he was some hero. I'd stand up and leave. It's sad how some are born and coveted in spite of the way they truly are. They did this horrible crime, please protect the rest of society from them! Age does not make a difference to a warped and evil mind.
So, you're part of the problem. You saw something and did nothing about it. It is people like YOU that allow evil to exist in this world.

I had an abusive Mom, so I know where you're coming from. I ended up having to give her eulogy for family & friends who knew nothing of it. Me being me, stood there and lied about how much I'd miss her and how sad I was, that very little of my life was spent with her.
It's been 2 decades since, it still bothers me that I hid the truth that day.
I don't know if these boys are rotten, or just stupid, but it's still sad to see so many lives ruined, and families destroyed. Years ago there were numerous instances of people throwing concrete blocks from overpasses. So we can't even just blame TikTok for this idiocy.

The punishment is based on neither their race nor their age. They're being charged as adults. They're getting long minimum sentences despite taking plea deals to testify against the jackass who threw the rock that killed Alexa Bartell.

True, they were more than old enough to know how deadly their actions could be. When I was 8yo, a friend and I once dropped small rocks from a tree which overhung a main road from a high bank. The traffic was fast moving, and we thought it unlikely that we would actually hit anything. It seemed like fun, until I dropped one that hit the flat bed of a truck. My friend said "Lucky it didn't hit the windscreen!", and that was the wakeup call that made us stop. We were only dropping small stones, but we could have cracked a windscreen which could have contributed to a serious accident. My only excuse is that we were only 8.
This was such a senseless act of pure malice that it is beyond belief that one person would think to do it much less three. Those kids have ruined their lives for a dastardly crime that will follow them forever- as it should. What a waste!

Previously the Judge threw out one defendants statement saying they had did this ten times before. That shows a pattern and reckless disregard for people, but we have to protect the criminals.

We do have to protect the accused. I'm not saying these three aren't guilty--they clearly are and two of them have admitted it. What I'm saying is--look at what goes on in countries that do not have strong protections for the accused. There is no such thing as justice if the accused do not have strong protections because what happens if your neighbour gets in a snit over the way you trim your bushes and decides to get revenge by accusing you of something to their cousin who works for the police? You get falsely accused and your rights are not protected, so you are convicted and sent to a hellhole of a prison... all because your neighbour didn't like the way you trimmed your bushes.

It’s a lesson that three year olds should have learned from their parents. These teens knew what would happen, they just didn’t care.
I wish all teachers/parents would share this with their kids. So they know there would be consequences for teens actions.

I had moronic friends that would throw stuff off of on an overpass of freeway at cars in Simi Valley, ca. when I was in middle school. We’d hear stories but thought it was mostly BS until at 70 mph an orange went through a guys windshield under that overpass and he spun out and took out some other cars. Everyone was okay but it was definitely enough to get police involved. Some 40 years later, I’m proud to say I was amongst a group of kids that snitched and pointed police in the right direction when they came to our middle school to investigate this. The overpass was super close to our Jr High, so when they heard the kids possible ages, I think our school was likely the first stop in the investigation. I don’t think the kids that were eventually charged (there was two and both said the other person threw that specific orange) got more than a slap on the wrist. When I hear this kid is facing 70 years, I wonder what the kids from the Simi Valley incident think about the bullet they dodged. Their punishment was like, community service, and had to like finish that school year at an alternative school, but they were back at our regular school the next year.
