- The fists were flying in Faribanks Friday night as the Alaska Nanooks beat the Arizona State Sun Devils on the scoreboard. But both teams took their frustrations out on each other, including a rare fight in college hockey.
The final three minutes of the game included three goals, a major penalty, a line brawl and a rare, gloves-off college hockey fight. See all the chaos including the scrap between Tucker Ness and Dawson Bruneski.

Yeah, look…. This was common place years ago in the NCAA. It’s still apart of the game somewhat. I’m not really for or against it, but I love to see the jam and juice these players have for their teams. That’s what it’s about. Nobody is out there scrappin saying look at me….

Most NCAA D1 players D3 too, just came from a junior league where chuckin at center ice wasn’t a big deal. Most of these guys are prob in there mid to low 20’s and are pretty hot headed. I was just sayin in my previous comments I miss the days of the Wisconsin vs NoDak at the DCC in Madtown..

Update: Ness has been suspended from all team activities. He is a grad student, so his College Career is over.

That ref that tried to break up the fight at center ice just made it even worse than it already was.
Ten out of ten for style, but minus several million for good thinking!
They both shoulda had some goddamn respect for the game and ended it when they hit the ice.

They've actually been pretty good. They made post season as an independent in 2019 and it remains to be seen this year since they have the 5th best record overall. They're joining the NCHC in 2025 I think it was.

Agreed. It's always been weird to me that NCAA college takes a step back from juniors rules-wise. No half shields, no fighting etc. Let the boys play.

I'd say that there's no truck, but rather, someone sitting next to the announcers switching cameras from software on a laptop. I've worked on low-budget broadcasts like this, and that's how it's done.

Were the officials obligated to continue the game with 11 seconds left. I don't think so. These are college kids, so what do you think is going to happen? The linesman dropping the puck has to pick up on the actions of the two center men who were clearly more interested in whacking each other than winning the face off.
Such a poor choice to not send them to the locker rooms after their misconducts

Just so everyone knows it’s because they came out of the penalty box and started fighting. Which is the reason for the suspensions as you could see a lot of punches being thrown in the scrum and not one of the, got suspended.

That’s a coaching issue at ASU. That teams lacks character.
Coach Powers is actually a good coach. He only tolerates so much and then you'll be done if you cross that line!!! He's taken ASU from club hockey to D1 and they made post season in 2019 as an independent and have a shot this year with a 24 win season.

5v3? No brainer to clear the benches for ASU. And you know the coach was begging them not to jump so he wouldn’t be suspended, meanwhile his guys are out numbered in the corner because the ref doesn’t know its his job to keep the numbers even that close to the end of the game.

The box “officials” in college hockey tend to be just people employed by the home school, not actual officials. Plus, in a clip of the ASU player leaving the box that was posted to Instagram, the box attendant on that side was a woman about half the size of the player. What exactly do you expect her to do in that scenario? Tackle a grown man who has clearly lost his mind with aggression?

Think ASU should have filed a ptotest. Refs should have sent them off (both teams) for 15 minutes and then come back and play the last 11 seconds. While there's a less than .05 percent chance, to do so, ASU could have scored 2 goals to tie it.
No chance they already made their choice. It was 1-1 with a little time laughed and they completely collapsed.

These kids need to learn how to fight. In the 90s, you were taught in hockey school how to protect yourself. Now fighting is out of the Q and when these kids get to the Show they will be in trouble. This thing of taking fighting out of the game is just more woke stuff. I hate it. I played NCAA and was Captain. I avoided as much as possible fighting to avoid the Disqualification, but I am 6'3" 205lbs (28 years ago LOL) now I am pushing 260, but I knew what I was doing. I have a face full of scars from the battles.
