I`d suggest using more frequent but shorter mistings in order to maintain a constant dampness versus a defined wet/dry cycle. A few seconds of mist is enough,
I use coco mat to germinate seeds for aeroponics, it provides a little water reserve and something for the roots to get hold of. Its a cheap, environmentally friendly medium that can be composted :)
