You must enjoy the Nero Wolfe series--what costumes! What cars! Also the later Agatha Christies were in the 50's. My mother made her clothes and made many of these outfits. FUN!
Two videos in and I'm loving every second of it! The way you treat and shape the fabric to create these beautiful pieces of clothing is very exciting! I'm new to sewing, my community library had short-term classes for embroidery and sewing and a company donated some old-ish but new-looking sewing machines. They work great and the team leading the class is excellent great too. But they don't know much about old techniques on how to sew vintage clothing. So far I have found Morgan Donner, Cathy hay and your channel. I look forward to learning more about the history of garments and how to make them properly. Thank you Caroline! Happy new subscriber!
Beautiful, my sister is the Sewist and she told me about your channel. Absolutely gorgeous. I love how you show the real deal of sewing and the need to check the process every step of the way and the fact that the patterns are often very problematic. There’s a lot of problem solving required along the way. Probably things that you all knew. Thanks new subbie! Love your channel!
WOW, WOW, WOW, DRESS IS FABULOUS , EVEN BETTER THEN THE JACKIE DRESS PEACH DRESS, I JUST LOVE IT, SO AUDREY HEPBURN AND I LOVED THE BLACK/ WHITE SKIRT , AND BLACK TOP WEARING NEAR END AND I REALLY ENJOY SEEING YOUR SEWING ROOM THE LOVELY WOOD DRESSER ECT. I WOULD WATCH JUST FOR THAT
I loved the dress I'll try to recreate this dress 😍 thank you so much 💗 ma'am I have a doubt at the end of the video did you wear any innerskirt for that poofyness ?
Oh yes I wore a petticoat which was standard for the period. I forgot to mention that in the video, but I’ll put it in the description! Thanks for pointing that out!
Thank you for bringing up Ms. Chanel's little dark anti-Semitism... um, issues. I realize that a giant corporation in in charge of telling her story. But, for heaven's sakes, she was living with a high ranking Nazi for a few years. Hopefully we're all capable of holding two thoughts in our head at the same time. In any event - that dress is Stunning. Good call on doubling the fabric. Absolutely beautiful work. Have you ever thought about doing a small series of how-to's? Everybody does everything differently. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
Right!? Coco was a visionary in many ways but damn did she have some hatred rooted deep within. Thank you 😊 I’m currently focused on reconstructions/history videos but will be releasing a future video on 20th century sewing techniques!
@@CarolineElizabethMartin I'm thinking if you ever need a break from a project you can throw out a how-to. Quivers ready for the bow, so to speak. Also good for the viewing numbers for when you start crossing YT milestones... Your reconstructions are lovely. And Yes. Can we please talk context when we talk Chanel. She was brilliant, but ho-boy-o, some of those 'blackamore' statures in her apartment... and then you talk about WWII... woman had her some serious issues.
@@CarolineElizabethMartin I've been playing around with what I would focus on if I had a YT channel (my 1915 hand-crank Singer 99K will play a roll, but beyond that...). So I like to think I've been paying attention whenever the YT Costume Superstars start talking shop. Check out the numbers on the stand-alone how-to's that Ms. Banner has put out. Those things are gravy. Lord knows I re-watched them enough...
That's definitely Givenchy's little black dress that audry hepburn wore in Sabrina. So i don't know what joan rivers has to do with this dress, but that is 100% a ripoff of a Givenchy.
I must start watching Midge, I have so much in common with it....I was born in NYC in the the late 1950s
She was born in the 30's
One word….STUNNING!
thank you Sandrea!
@@CarolineElizabethMartin your so welcome. I know you pay attention to details because you got my name right. Very few people do. Thank you.
You look so pretty! And the dress came out lovely. Where ever you wear it, make sure you wear the gloves too - dinner, brunch, museum, comedy club...
Thank you so much! Right!? the gloves really complete the outfit.

Fun fact! This little black dress is a replica of the dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina.
Yes, I forgot to mention that in the video but it’s in the description

Thank you cuttage! If you make it definitely send me a photo
Look for vintage dance events to wear your lovely clothes.
I don't know if you've made one yet, but I would love to see you make the iconic Chanel suit such as the famous Jackie O one. Love the LBD!
I haven’t but probably will in the future! Love Jackie 🎀
Great job! This is lovely :)
Thanks Rachael!
I just came across your channel loving it!
Thanks Monica 💕
@@CarolineElizabethMartin Also they recently came out with a book called Madly Marvelous all about the costume design of MMM.
@@MNic13 that's so funny you mention that because my copy just arrived and I am so sad I did not have it sooner lol

It looks like Audrey Hepburn's dresses
And the gloves are gorgeous
Yes it does, it is the same.
It is from movie called "Sabrina" from 1954
This is like sewing porn! I know if I tried to do this dress I would curse and give up at least 3 times 😆

Only they knocked that dress off of Audrey Hepburn in 1954’s Sabrina. Midge looks great, but Audrey looked incredible
