Fun fact: Filipino and Indonesian languages are related! All of them are part of the great Austronesian language family, which also includes the native Taiwanese languages and most Polynesian languages. :)
In terms of "relatedness", Filipino, Malaysian, and Indonesian languages are actually some of the earliest members of the family that diverged (split 3000-4000 years ago), but our ancestors had close trading ties with one another which could have led to language sharing.
The most recent languages that developed are theorized to be the Pacific-Polynesian group (split just within the last 2000 years).

There are plenty of reductions like that in order to save time. Some are even reflected in the written language. For instance, characters that end in ku or tsu are often reduced to a small つ which means you repeat the next consonant. For instance: 結 is Ketsu and 構 is kou, but 結構 is 'kekkou.' Its a little confusing at first, but very natural once you understand it.

Mandarin has 4 tones. Thai has 5. Vietnamese and Cantonese has 6. While Mhong has 8, if i remember correctly - it should sounds more melodic in paper, right? But the truth is; when the tone is fixed for each word, tones goes up and down “randomly” depending on different sentences. The message you wanna convey is “locked” or “fixed” in a specific tone that the untrained ear might not be able to differentiate. So it may sounded non-melodic and a bit janky to the listener unfamiliar with the languages.
While Japanese, Bahasa, Tagalog, and Korean has no tone. ironically, this is what makes these languages sound somewhat melodic, bc you can go up and down in tone and has no effect in the meaning of the sentence. Tho it may convey a different mood and context, but the word meaning doesn’t affected by the change of tones.
I learned to fluently listen and speak Thai before I start learning mandarin, so it doesn’t sound weird to my ear, since i can distinguish between 4 tones out of 5. But when I tried looking into Cantonese and Vietnamese it sounded unnatural, bc my ears wasn’t trained to differentiate the 6th tone (yet😉) So I understand both side - For the non-tonal language speakers, Mandarin and Thai sound somewhat like how the Viet and Canton sound to my untrained ears. If that make sense😅
Meanwhile those that speak Tonal language their whole life will have no problem listening to English or Japanese; But when it comes to speaking, it’s hard for them to say each word out loud bc they don’t know what tone to use. So you will often hear them speak English with a monotonous voice, or sometimes in the tones that sound natural to them, and that word will be “locked” with that tone and will not change bc they already associate that word with a specific tone. I mean for the newbies ofc, those that has more time to learn the nature of the non-tonal language will talk more “natural sounding” ofc.

What a funny comment!😂What is a North Asian language? Japanese, Korean and Austronesian (Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia) are closely related languages! Keywords isolated language Sino-Tibetan language family, Indo-European language family,Uralic languages are homologous!Among them, Uralic language family is quite old, which is between cohesive language and isolated language.😅Sticky language is a rather backward language with extremely low information content! So the conversation is usually longer! It is difficult to create words, so modern languages that stick to languages are almost all dead languages, and they can't create new words according to their native languages, so they can only borrow words from other language families.😅
