Most of the tire shops have idiots using impact wrenches improperly and then later when you have a flat your stuck with the problem.
100% true that’s why I remove the tire in the next parking lot of a tire shop and roll the tires to the shop have them do their thing with the wheels and tires and roll them back to where I parked and install them by hand myself.
Good advice, but I did all that even with the extension bar and at the end, it snapped all 5 Lugnuts people that use an air impact in these tire shops need to be put in jail
Use the oxy/acetyl torch. It will come loose easily with no breakage.
@@jerrelhintergardt6898 we tried all that, and nothing worked at all. We had to cut off the rim and remove the knuckle with the brake caliper and rotor on it.
When you need to turn the lug nut counterclockwise at 10 million psi, then you just have to cut off the rim
@@Ben-Hawy wow. Now that's was really stuck. I've never failed with a cutting torch. Would have enjoyed lending you a hand.
@@jerrelhintergardt6898 after I cut the rim to get it off and removed the knuckle with brake caliper and rotor, now the new rim goes on with new Lugnuts and I made sure to use anti-seize on all the lug nuts 🔩 , next time they try to use an air tool at 700 psi I can still take it off
@@Ben-Hawy that's scary, I just broke an impact socket and a breaker bar. I'll try heat tomorrow, but this is definitely from them being put on with an air wrench. pisses me off, not the first time, between that and engineering things so we can't fix them.
I bought a 36" breaker bar and a set of Chromoly 500nm max tourque wheel sockets. I always undo the wheel nuts after a mechanic or tyre fitter has been near them. I apply some copper grease and tighten them to spec and check them on a regular basis.
Dude this helped a lot thank you so much ! I couldn’t get the lugs off of my 16’ mustang but with this tactic they came off like a dream ! Thanks again 🤙🏼
Awesome, glad it helped!
The shop tightens them too much on purpose worldwide so you have to go back to them
Thanks from Ireland 🇮🇪 this worked for me. 👍
You saved my life, figuratively. Thanks.
Great work. Thanks for being very Exact and Very Thorough with the Explanation. I'm in the same situation with a Chrysler Pacifica 2007 . And yes I will try this method real soon . Thanks for Everything
THANK YOU!!! Using lubricating oil now...will try your suggestions tommorow...
Whoever tightened those lugs that tight had something personal against you 💀
Had one on the road that was hard. Put star wrench and jacked car up. Used weight of car to break it loose.
Hardest one ever were lug bolts on. VW van. Be very careful but heat those with an oxy/acetyl cutting torch until cherry red. I guarantee it'll come loose.
Excellent demonstration.
Did the same for my 2015 Jetta. PB blaster, breaker bar and a specialty socket for lugs. 20 mins to do one tire.
The local Honda dealer replaced our tires we went back to have them rotated one lug would not come off they called me saying if the stud breaks it will cost $500 because the whole hub will have to be replaced. Some real bullshit
Typical dealerships. That’s why do my own work. You can replace your own hub for about $40 if you buy aftermarket parts and diy
@@PhillipsVision Seems they break it on purpose to just charge 500$
Fantastic. You just saved me from thinking my compressor and gun were faulty
Great video Pal 👍🏻, best wishes from Edinburgh Scotland 🏴.
Thanks. Tried all of this. My breaker bar is too small. Headed to the store! Not going to buy an impact wrench. UGH! What a day. 😂😂😂 thanks again.
Thanks for the advice youtube man
Thank you so much from Ethiopia
Helps a lot bro
Use a little heat…..Works every time. 👌
How do you "use a little heat"? A hair dryer? A blow torch?
Try to tighten the lug nut with an impact wrench then reverse wrench may break it loose... Also use a dead blow hammer hit the socket hoping to break it loose.
Badass, that's how my neighbor did it, when the AAA guy couldn't.
You are awesome! Thank you so much for the information!!
Some good tips ..but if it wont shift after reasonable effort with a breaker bar I suggest not pushing it too far ..the real risk is breaking the lug nuts …which is a real headache ..I usually loosen mine with a breaker bar after a trip to the tire shop and re torque to spec ..to enable roadside removal if necessary . I’ve had the occasional one that wont come loose..I usually go to a tire shop and ask them to loosen then i re torque..
Garages and tire shops seem to tighten up excessively with air tools leaving the driver with a problem if they need to get them off in an emergency.
Thank you so much for your video unfortunately I should have been watching the guy before he just rounded off some of my lugnuts now I'm trying to use a file to get some type of shape back into the lugnuts to try and get them off. For now on no more "buddies " helping me when I have men like you on utube thank you again great video yep
If you round off your lug nuts (or break your special lock socket) just grab a socket (not a deep one) that will almost fit but is too small for the nut, tap it on just enough till it will stay on the nut, then grab a sledge and swing away,(don't miss) then remove it, worked perfectly every time for me so far
I've always heard it "muh LIB duh num". Thanks for the video!
Breaker bar is the safest
that much torque can damage your wheel studs
Ya these breaker bars are powerful. Last week I tried to do my rear brakes on a smart fortwo - which uses 15mm Hex headed bolts as opposed to lug nuts. I didn't know it could be done but i snapped the damn head off a bolt. Of course I only figured this out after breaking it that it was a bolt. Should have lubed it - went caveman - learned my lesson.
Put socket on and pound on it with a 3 lb. sledge, vibration will break bond. Better than breaking tools.
It didn't sound like the oil penetrated when it popped loose. The reason being, a tapered lug nut is like a flared fitting as on a hydraulic system. The tighter the nut, the more it seals. On that acorn nut no oil made it to the threads or into the flare.
Tapered lug nuts??? What the hell!? Why would they do that?? lol I am not mechanic and I have been having a hell of a time with mine. Specs say 19mm but that doesnt even go on half way. So Im picking up a 20mm tomorrow. Those folks really need to be punished for that kind of negligence!
Get a nice 3/4 impact with a 1/2" hose to deliver full air flow.
Thanks from Solomon islands.mine is worned out ..I think harder than that
Breaker bar don't work for me. Heat and impact wrench and wd 40 does
At major tire centers they use a torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts
I've got one that is stuck halfway off it only wiggles 1/4 turn left or 1/4 turn right. can't get it with a breaker bar or impact
May have to drill it out and replace the stud
Pro Info-
Awesome thanks.
One of my friend has the same problem, at shop they tried but one of them break it. What should you prefer to do it?
i was able to get only one lol
i am going taking to the shop tomorrow and ask them not to do that again 😅
next day
they almost could not take them off 🤣
You should put anti-seize on these log nuts from now on
We have one that has broken three high end tools.. still won’t release.. we’ve used the wd40 and everything.. help!!
My problem right now
Packs a punch for its size
I'm struggling we dun bent the damn 4 way and we can't get it to budge. I don't got road side. And I'm out of state stock on the side of the road
Mines won’t come off because the lug nuts haven’t been taking off in a long time so the car just been sitting outside in the rain and stuff like that
So do I in vest a break bar and pipe or even bother with an impact gun ?
Yeah mine still won’t come off 😅
Is there an actual torque spec for lugs? My tire guy puts them on with like a gorilla impact, so if you're on the side of the road with a flat, your screwed. AAA shows up bitches about it and tows you
@@peteganze6416 Shoukd be about 85 lbs-ft unless manufacturer says otherwise
add a 6 foot snipe to that breaker bar , I will need it because I'm 72 and cant get up .
I tried this but ended up breaking the stud that holds the wheel in place 🤦♂️
Why do breaker bars work better than impact wrenches with ridiculous torque? Don’t beat me up please I know nothing about physics lol
To quote Scotty Kilmer, if you get a long enough bar you could move a planet
Call breaker bar because it breaks your back😂
good t3chnique but uses a lot of tools. when on the road you don't have those. What i do is use the car's weight to slowly loosen it by lifting the wrench with your jack.
I tried that today and my truck ones started to lift my crew cab truck. Need to use a torch. Tomorrow
WHAT YEAR is that Lamb-chop Countach??? … guessin’ ‘87-‘89..???
1986
@@PhillipsVision Dammit! I was literally thinkin’ it MIGHT be an ‘86 as it does look exactly like that year’s Countach but, I was too late and I would’ve been right. Is it YOURS?
@@DavidsVoices1970 yes, it’s a replica I’m restoring on my RUclips channel. It was pretty bad off when I got it.
wax worked here
That's really stuck on there.
Over torqued by the tire shop
Just broke the lug nut.
I broke a lug nut stud by jumping on the wrench
when they have streched the threads that much WD40 aint aint gonne do jack!
I got an old bus with ten lugs i cants get off.
i broke two stud on my corolla hatch with bar NO NOT DO THIS
Kia has weak studs and cheap lugs
I did all all that prior to the video, still stuck
You’ll need to drill out the stud so you can break the nut off. Once done you’ll need to replace the stud
@@PhillipsVision I can snap them all off by hand. Does drilling them do less damage or does it just make them easier to snap off?
@@MLEB723 if you can remove them without drilling, do that. Also check the studs to make sure they are not damaged
They have emergency lug nut remover kits. It looks like a socket. You would have to replace the lug nut because it creastes its own pattern to pry off the lug nut
I really don't get the point of this video what you showed us everybody knows
I didn’t know
So, gary....do you really know everything....or do you just think you do?
I did not knew, and did not worked for me. but probably very long leverage will do the case, where can I get the steel pipe?
Why did you watch it then??? I googled it because I needed to know what to do. 😒
The worst thing is that I did this to myself… 🥹 Tightened thise nuts with an impact gun and didn’t drive my car for a year since then… All nuts are completely seized.. I soaked them in some penetrating oil, I will try again tomorrow…
Use a torch.
@@nopoohfan7112 Thanks for the tip, but torch would ruing my alloy wheels.. However, the next day after I soaked the nuts, I was able to unscrew them using a long wrench. All good now! Never tightening again without a torque wrench, that's for sure!
You were very helpful
