Derek Longmuir ( the blond one) finished up working in a care home in Edinburgh where my Mum was a resident ( in a home for the blind) . He used to bring her cups of tea and sandwiches.
I think 'The Rollers' were probably the biggest band in the UK for a few years in the 70s ..... appealing mainly to the teenage girl market.. But they did make some great pop records.
Saw them in Miami with my gal pals. I can still see my best friend, now gone, bouncing in her seat next to me as the entire place belted out “ Saturday Night”. Just a group for fun teen times and good memories for those of us lucky enough to be in high school in the 70’s❤️
Try one with Duncan as lead when they went as the Rollers. Turn on the Radio, Hello and Welcome Home, or Elevator come to mind. On a personal note , Alan Longmuir(Bassist) was a class act. We met him at a fest once then a week later he walked into a pub we was at and instead of walking by, he smiled, came over, bought a round , and chatted with us.
I remember this song from Love Actually. It was used in the funeral scene for Liam Neeson's character's wife and played as a slide show of her life was shown. It was used really unexpectedly and really beautifully.
Hi, you two! It's Andrew Erroch fae Paisley in Scotland here. As others have said, this band were absolutely huge worldwide and certainly made tartan more popular. I have a memory when I was young of many people on TV, mainly girls, in tartan outfits and they were obsessed by these boys. As a fellow Scot, I'm glad I finally got to see them perform live in concert at The OVO Hydro in Glasgow on the 11th of December 2016. They were certainly still popular that night and the Glaswegian women were as wild as ever. Æx 🙏
The Bay City Rollers were huge around the world, not just in the UK and US, but were massively robbed of their income, particularly Eric Faulkner and Stuart Wood - both guitarists - who were the main songwriters (though this song is a Four Seasons cover), and Leslie McKeown, the lead singer, who was robbed of performer's rights by their manager who died a very rich man. Check out some of their Faulkner/Wood penned stuff.
All right my babies.... I think this is one of the coolest times in music history because you can hear the transitions of the 60s and 70s in the same song. Two thumbs up, my babies‼️💯🔥👍🏼😎👍🏼
The Bay City Rollers have SO many great tunes!! They are absolutely so much more than "Saturday Night" - glad you are getting into them - hope you do more !
Yes! Some one else commented about Shakin' Stevens who you haven't listened to yet. He had great songs with "Oh Julie", "This old house" and "You drive me crazy" which was probably his biggest hit. You guys will love him as he has Elvis vibes. Also another band you haven't done from the 70's is "Hot Chocolate". They had hits with "It started with a kiss", "You sexy thing", "So you win again" and "Everyone's a winner" ❤

The song is from late 70s. It's about forbidden love of a married man for a younger woman. He's saying there's no future in it because he won't leave his wife
Great reaction! Also a great song. You should also check out the original by Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. That's why it sounds like a 60s classic. My favorite Bay City Rollers tracks are "Shang-a-Lang" and "Summerlove Sensation". You guys should check them out sometime.
I went to see them in Glasgow. It was a sea of tartan and the streets were at a standstill. Good old days we even made the news lol . Next you should check out Shang a lang

This is a FRANKIE VALLI AND THE FOUR SEASONS song, which reminds me: When are you going to get back to them? You've only done a couple of their songs, but they have numerous hits, and inspired one of the longest-running Broadway musicals, which was made into a movie.
Never heard this version before. The Four Seasons version, the OG, is so much better. They had so many wonderful hits. Wish you would review some of my favorites, like “Let’s Hang On” and “Opus 17”.
Two of the songs was not even theirs. So not actually by the band music. And Saturday Night not written by any of the Five. We need to get actual songs written by the guys like album tracks.
Thanks for posting. More from the Rollers please. Give a little love, summerlove sensation, keep on dancing, you're a woman, the way I feel tonight and many more, so great.
Love the Bay City Rollers! I have heard their music called bubblegum pop. So devastated that I never got to see them in concert. I listened to them for hours. My 29 year old daughter likes to duet with me on Saturday Night.
This song took me right back to my first awaking as a teenage girl. I was at my grandparents for tea and TV was on. The compare on the programme introduced the Bay City Rollers debuting their new single ‘Bye Bye Baby.’ I found myself screaming and crying, like thousands of others, I was experiencing my first teenage crush. Throughout 1975, my friends and I were obsessed with them. We wore the tartan trousers, waved the tartan scarves and sat glued to their TV programme, whilst screaming our lungs out. Happy memories.

As a teen in the 70's , the Bay City Rollers were one of my favorites , I would love for you guys to do their song" Dedication" it's a great song with some amazing vocals,
1975 was The Bay City Rollers year, They were the One Direction of the day, Nearly as mad as Beatlemainia. The chant went "B.A.Y, B.A.Y, B.A.Y C.I.T.Y with a R.O.L.L.E.R.S Bay City Rollers are the best!"
The talk about the song's lyrics and the twist later on in the song that he was already married reminded me of the A Scottish Soldier song, which by chance we'd encountered at school the year before this song was number 1! The one that goes "oh,soldier, soldier, will you marry me,with your musket, fife and drum..."

I was 15 years old when this stormed the UK charts, and it is not an exaggeration to say that every girl around that age went mental for the Bay City Rollers, dressing like them, screaming at their name and walking arm in arm singing their songs.
This was a cover of an old Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons song, which is why you're getting the 60s vibe. True story, im a postman (mailman), I used to deliver to the lead singers house everyday in Edinburgh. I also delivered to the workplace, just up the street, of the guitarist. Also, another Scottish band. Biffy Clyro - try Unknown Male 01. its brilliant.
This is a cover. The 1975 Bay City Rollers song is a cover of a Four Seasons 1965 original. While this version hit #1 in England, it was never released as a single in the U.S.
Back where I lived, the band's fan base was 99% 10-15 year old girls who had a (one-sided) long distance crush on band members. Any guy admitting that he liked BCR would have immediately lost all his street cred and considered to have testosterone level of exactly zero. By the way, this song has an interesting role in the very successful and funny Rom-Com "Love Actually", which I recommend You to check out.

They had a very limited appeal, mostly to teen girls from 13 to 16, on that basis it is ridiculous to suggest they were the biggest band in the UK.
They were advertised to be that great band but never achieved the expectations made on them.

The '60's sound is because so many of their songs were '60's covers, with a '70's spin. So many fun songs, but 'Shang-a-Lang' has to be next. ❤
Sounds like 60s Beach Boys....Kudos, good job guys.
You have just played the best group you will ever hear 👏👏👏👏👏👍🩷
I was in love with Eric, posters covered my bedroom walls
Huge fan of these guys back in the day… wore the tartan and the crop jeans
Back where I lived, the band's fan base was 99% 10-15 year old girls who had a (one-sided) long distance crush on band members. Any guy admitting that he liked BCR would have immediately lost all his street cred and considered to have testosterone level of exactly zero.
By the way, this song has an interesting role in the very successful and funny Rom-Com "Love Actually", which I recommend You to check out.
Well, I remember this from my youth living in the UK, Bay City Rollers mania was EVERYWHERE with people all wearing those tartan embroidered jeans etc! Great cover of the Franki Valli and 4 Seasons classic 👍😊
Thank you for the Bay City Rollers.
