Well done episode. First 1930 Triumph model X, second 1940 Triumph 100.
The Kinks, all day and all of the night.
Awesome choices
Congratulations that is the song and band =)
I had a Triumph motorcycle. it was a T120 Bonniville 650 cc. It had a splayed port head, and two Amal carbs that leaked from the tickler at higher speeds. The lucas ignition was a real struggle, and the engine vibrated like crazy. All the screw threads were Whitworth with a 55 degree threads. So they were all one of a kind, because SAE, and Metric threads, are 60 degree threads. The bike ran strong, and looked cool. i wish i had it back now.
Awesome thank you so much for sharing your bike with us =) it sounds like it was a pretty badass bike
"500cc with a Sturmey-Archer rear hub" Egad. I knew the Sturmey's were tough, but I had no idea.
The 'toodle-loo' guy, doing motorcycles👍.
'37 Tiger & the '40 Tiger for me, Jay. They have the right vintage "look"!
This video hits home for me as I presently own a 2019 Triumph Speed Triple. I love this bike! In my 55 yrs of riding & owning some 25 bikes, I have found this to be my favorite & all around most satisfying ride!
Sweet choices =) awesome bike I have friends that have triumph. I don’t know what models they have, but they always look so bad ass…
Honestly, I’m not a motorcycle guy per se I just dig history. I think it’s really cool to see where different companies came from. I really like that model X Junior it has a really nice look probably not the fastest thing in the world but it looks. It looks good.
The model X Junior has my preferred styling 😉
The Tigers were pretty reliable if I remember right 🤔 I'm old 😂
British always produced quality 👍. Except Lucas 😢🙄
Great Episode 👏👏👏
Happy Motoring ✌️
I totally agree. The model X is a very nice looking bike. I’m not even in the motorcycles, and I would buy one of those as well as a speed twin ,those are really nice as well.
You really got me .....the Kinks 🤷
Kinks song be not that song
I recall the Triumph logo on 1960's-70's gas tanks. It was well thought of in California.
Also in the 60's, BMW referred to the motorcycle much more than the automobile.
My grandfather had one of these 500 cc TRiumph 3.5 HP bikes in 1914.
That’s awesome. Have any pictures of him with it? Did he talk about it?
WYR Tiger 70
WYR Tiger 100
I wish these bikes were still available, but then again I see how people drive.
Great stuff Jay.Thx.
I remember the time I took a Triumph Trident for a spin and cracked open the throttle. It had a lot more beans than my Honda CB 350.
Awesome choices =)
Hi Jay! A bit late posting on this one! HAVE owned a motorcycle, a Kawasaki to be precise, and it was nice! But I have always had a thing for British bikes! One that I always lusted after was the Triumph Bonneville. Thanks for such a nice coverage of the early years of Triumph! WYR. . .1937
Tiger 70 #2 The Tiger 100! Those are some really neat looking bikes!
Awesome choices
Yeah there’s a lot of cool events coming up. Plus I went to a couple other events. I figured I would say where I’m going and then if anybody runs into me I think it’s really cool meeting people. =)
I think that both my mom and dad had Triumph cycles which they used extensively in Germany. I was supposed to have ridden in a baby carrier on the back of my mom's bike. I would have liked to have rehabilitate one of them but my dad sold them during a period of unemployment.
That’s awesome. Thank you so much for sharing that story.
I couldn’t believe that triumph made the single for as long as they did without offering a twin Indian had a four by the time the triumph parallel twin came out
I've noticed that early histories of many of the automobile companies have nebulous dates. I guess that reflects what was thought to be important at the time. However, it's interesting that these businesses didn't keep some type of historical records or produce annual reports with key dates. Anyway, it would be interesting to me to hear the "what and how" of automobile companies support of the 2nd world war, including motorcycles. Thanks for another interesting episode.
There is definitely an information barrier for whatever reason information is really hard to find on companies before World War I.. this one wasn’t so bad just very contradicting on years.
But I agree they didn’t keep a record like they kept now lotta cars they just have like a wheelbase size not the overall dimensions, and as time went on, they started adding more and more dimensions
Happy you enjoyed this episode
Many companies changed hands, and the new owners saw no need to keep the old records for machines they no longer made. Also, the world wars saw many factories destroyed along with their records. And new designs were introduced as they came along; 'model years' wasn't a thing back then like it is now. Sometimes a brands 'owners club' will have some or all of the records but not all of them are publicly available to non club members as an incentive to join the club.
WYR: All of them.
Triumph made a few cars as well, the most well-known being the TR6. The TR6 ignition is directly below the steering column on the dash. Terrible location for that. I can't wait for a video where the Norton Commando(Commander?) 750 is brought up, along with the movie I Bought A Vampire Motorcycle.
Norton Commando, introduced in 1967. Last production year 1975, with a handful of bikes sold as 76 models in England. Norton did make a Commander which was a rotary engine machine
@@P_RO_ Oh, okay. Thanks.
My 2018 Triumph T120 Bonneville is based on Turner's Firebird engine, still made in Hinckley, UK.
1924 Triumph
1940 Triumph (kinda like mine already)
Awesome
I never Realized until doing this episode how many different models they made there was a lot that I left out. I just tried to cover as much as I possibly could but it took me longer to put this episode together than they generally do and all of the information is so contradicting , depending on what source you go to also I didn’t know that they only made a single up until 1933 and then when they made a twin it was a parallel twin.. super interesting
Definitely going to come back to this not entirely sure when I think the motorcycles are going to get put on hold for a little while I got so much stuff to get through.. this month I went to a bunch of different events. I’m going to two more events and I got probably 20 cars in the pipeline at the rate that I’m going I won’t be able to get through all the cars.
Sweet choices
1937 Tiger 70
1937 Tigger Speed Twin
For WYR, first is the ‘37 Tiger, then the ‘40 Tiger.
I’m not even going to try to guess the song…I too thought it was the Kinks.
Sweet choices =)
I guess the guitar is very iconic with the distortion very easy to pick out
'37 Tiger 70, '40 Tiger 100.
Awesome choices =)
Tiger 100!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome choice
