J-Man this is not a very PC story to tell.......I love it 😂
My mom worked at McDonald's and my older brothers each had the general lee and uncle jessie's truck. I got them when they didn't want them anymore. I cut out the windows and used them for my gijoes until they fell apart.
Holy crap. Memory unlocked. I totally remember those kids meals that came in cars! I would have sworn they were at Hardees, but here’s the proof it was McDonalds. But man this is like one of those foggy memories from early childhood where you can’t quite tell if it was real or a dream or something. Ha.
I'm a Peruvian/Italian guy born and raised in Massachusetts in the mid 70's and we'd all talk about the latest Dukes episode at school. I'll always remember during 1st grade recess, we all hear the famous General Lee horn, our gazes look towards the sound and realize someone had their Dodge painted exactly like the General Lee and was having a blast. Great times.
They really don’t make Happy Meal boxes like they used to anymore. That’s a cool box to get your food in, it’d be even cooler as a lunchbox. Though with Dukes of Hazzard, Bo, Luke, Roscoe P. Coltrane, Boss Hogg and Uncle Jesse (cause he reminded me of my grandpa) were my favorite characters. The show also got me into Waylon Jennings’ music too due to the show’s theme song.
Now days McDonald's would be shut down for having these I miss the days before its considered cool to be offended and miserable
Daisy’s yellow Roadrunner she had before Dixie the Jeep was cooler especially when she was working on it
@That Junkman Yes! For all 7 seasons of the ''The Dukes of Hazzard''. Boss Hogg had a (custom triple white 1970 Cadillac DeVille) Convertible. In fact (episode 1 season 8) of the sitcom ''Alice'' 1976 to 1985. There is actually a tv crossovers episode titled "Mel is Hogg-Tied". Where we find out that Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke), is a distant cousin of the character ''Jolene Hunnicut'' (Celia Weston). ''Boss Hogg'' and ''Deputy Enos Strate'' (Sonny Shroyer) arrive from Hazzard County and show up at Mel's Diner so Boss Hogg can say hello to Jolene Hunnicut. ''Boss Hogg'' soon comes up with the bright idea to try to swindle ''Mel Sharples'' (Vic Tayback) into selling his Diner to him for $1. Enos was not in favor of Boss Hogg's plan but decides to order some Chicken and even flirts with waitress ''Vera Louise Gorman'' (Beth Howland). (Spoiler Alert)! ⛔In the end Boss Hogg of course didn't get the Diner. And ended up with his (Custom 1970 Cadillac DeVille Convertible) filled with Cement.
The General Lee must have been very common in my area. I managed to snag two of them. My mom bought one and I think I got the other at a birthday party.
While offensive by today’s standards, I know that there are far worse things you could’ve called that poor kid! 😢
I knew a guy whose cousin had an unreleased rocket firing Cooter's Tow Truck Happy Meal box.
But he had to pooh in it instead of going at school.
Lucky kid
I remember getting the truck. If you weren't there in that one single week when they had the General Lee, then the chance to get it was gone forever.
I was and am still allergic to the hormones they put in beef. So at MCD the only thing I could eat was the fish but it was not until I was old and out grew a happy meal that I found out you could replace the burger with a fish.
Just the Good Ole Boys , in the good ole days
Yeah I remember those...I had a few general Lees... even though it didn't roll...I still played with them
Man in today's society that toy would have been banned, thank God I was born in the 80's
I had the entire set. It wasn't like I wanted them. It was just that I had a grandfather that would always take me to McDonald's at least once a week right after school and I didn't have to ask him. He was just like that. My grandparents lived on the same street as the school I went to. They wouldn't let me walk to their home, they were scared I was going to get kidnapped or something. The Mcdonald's was at the halfway point between the school and their house. It was just just down a side road right next to the walmart. If a friend was with me, my grandfather would buy them a Happy Meal too. I remember the commercials but I didn't know they were out that day we went. I just asked for a Happy Meal and then noticed the pictures around the place that had the Dukes on them. My friend and I got the General Lee. Every week after that we got the other cars. I don't know what the heck happened to them. I do remember vaguely the plastic slowly tearing up. Every time you would open them they smelled like burgers. As with almost every toy I ever had, it vanished. I have no clue what happened to them. I also remember those plastic cups and the only one I had was the Rosco cup. the same friend has the Uncle Jesse.
Did you watch Enos when he got his own show? I don't remember these happy meals at all!!
My cousin and I collected the set..and they all cracked so quick it wasn't even funny. Had to throw them out. We both also got the Dukes of Hazard wrist racer cars that launched from a watch type thing. We played with them a lot. The last time I was at my cousin's place I saw the Dukes of Hazard race car set in one of his old, abandoned vehicles. I offered to post it on feebay but he wasn't interested.
My cousin had the whole set as well, like a typical 10 year old,he used the. For target practice with his BB gun
You need to make more videos like this. Love hearing your stories from back in the day 👍
My memory is kinda fuzzy but I remember McDonald's putting the meals in Styrofoam containers that looked like the cars.
I absolutely think it's ridiculous that racism is associated with the union Jac flag that's not what it means anyway. This was awesome Junkman I didn't know about this back in the day. Thank you Junkman for sharing another awesome story and video....your the best my friend. Thank you again have a great day and may the force be with you always.
I totally agree with you on the flag's meaning.
UNION JACK is BRITISH
Don't remember these. I don't think they were released in Colorado. My grandma collected everything and I mean everything McDonald's Happy Meals related and I know she never had these.
Love them Dukes!
Have no memory of the Dukes MC Donald's stuff.
Yeah, Boss Hogg had the white El Dorado with the longhorns on the front. And his nephew Huey Hogg had ragtop Volkswagen super beetle with longhorns. And Daisy originally had a black and yellow Challenger R/T. They changed it to a Golden Eagle, when Chrysler bought jeep. I miss the Duke Boys!
It was actually a roadrunner not a Chally
I DON'T REMEMBER THAT HAPPY MEAL CAMPAIGN
Man, all I ever had was the police car. I wanted the General Lee so bad. I do remember those little cups being around my parent's and grandma's house forever though. They had several and liked to drink coffee out of them.
I remember a die cast General Lee car that was like 13 inches long that kids older than me had in like 1982 but I never had any Dukes Of Hazzard toys
Wow, this totally got by me in the day. I never saw these.
🤣 You should have a cartoon of your young adventures like Life With Louie, it would be hilarious!
One Christmas i got everything Dukes of Hazzard. I got the General lee with Bo and Luke action figures, Dukes of Hazzard playset with hot wheels cars,a watch, wrist racers, and colorforms set. Now i found the action figures on line and the General Lee. I also have a few hot wheels and the wrist racers cars without launchers.
Man Junkman. My grandparents took me to Micky D's sort of often. I remember having to get the boss hog one. It got smashed in my toy box.
I could be wrong, but it’s been over 30 years, since I got a happy meal. But I think they just come in bags now?
I’m gonna start calling people “Hop Goblin” 🤣
WOW them are cool i remember the UFO ones so cool and rhe boats and trains but i had no clue they ever made this
Geesh...😕...sad story...😔...I felt this💔deeply...💯✔️
I grew up in New Mexico and I don't remember Dukes of Hazard being that big of a deal. Maybe it's because my parents forbade my brother and I from watching the show, so I never really had any connection with the kids that did watch it.
This is my second time watching this since I fell asleep the first time.😂
sounds like me watching Ashoka
Great video I love the Dukes of Hazzard.
I got Rosco's car. It tore apart in 2 days
The General Lee!
Hamburger helper or McDonald's, tough choice
I miss the Store Zayres.
i don't remember this promotion at all and we had like three McDonalds nearby - was this just in the south? 1982 was the height of my prime Dukes of Hazard years!!!
Do a video about 80s diapers commercials
😂 Great story Junkman. 👍
Oh man. We didn’t get this happy meal in Australia 🇦🇺 ( of course 🤨 )
Lol Willie. Much like pappy, I want to hear more willy tales lol
I Enjoyed Junkmans story hour. No I did not have this happy meal set. I hope you punched Daniel in her poochie for lying to you guys
I got that hulk happy meal from hardees
What I never knew it existed
Didn't McDonald's release a song called friends in a happy meal
in the 80s?
Then in 1992 was when the content created was 9 years old? When someone is that young the perspective of peers is not relevant as they become adults
4:06 Did your freind Grady Watch Sandford And son at all?
I hope
You failed 2nd grade too?! So did I! Haha! I was 19 when I graduated high school!
I was 20 :) failed 9th also, missed to many days
Dukes might not have been as popular if not for smokey and the bandit.too bad they didn't make a big line of toys
92? i thought it was 82?
And although McD's was 30 miles away i think i still got all of them, my mom was preggers with my sister, her and my aunt were going to Lamaze classes twice a week for some time, so they would get one for me and my cousin. We played with them on the carpet.
McDonald's happy meals had some cool toys but it sucked as as kid back then bet most of us couldn't get a whole set of the toys because we didn't go out to eat as often.
too bad everyone is woke nowadays we can't have a general lee with a flag anymore
Too bad they didn't have Friday the 13th happy meals
Man!!!! You guys did a lotta scheming to get a happy meal! Don’t get me wrong, I loved the Dukes happy meals, and yes I did get the General Lee. But common sense should’ve told you guys that it would be released the first week not the last. Also, I’m willing to bet both of you had actual General Lee toys at home already.
I always heard they safe the best for last :). I know I did :)
Not necessarily. There is logic in releasing the General Lee during the last week, especially if it wasn't widely known which car would be released when. Make people come back week after week.
I would like to option the rights to adapt this story into a comic book. I can offer you a Bob Fortune Star Wars figure in exchange, very valuable.
DEAL!
Dukes of what?
I've never heard of these.
I think these are cool. :)
I like that commercial, but the commercial is misleading as eff.
These cars are shown rolling around!
I'm glad there's someone out there who dislikes onions as much as I do.
There's no sense in ruining your food with that crapp.
"Just pick it off".
Seriously? Just pick it off?
You can still taste it! Bastards.
Sorry you didn't get 'em, but I really enjoyed the story.
Thanks for the video
👍👍
Yoi babble!! Get to the point!!
there is no point
