    Just depends what your training plan is and what your strength is. If i'm doing 9 training sessions in a week, I'm absolutely wearing 8oz gloves. I think of my body as having a stamina bar like a videogame. Once certain stabilizer muscles are exhausted, you risk injuries especially to the rotator cuff. If I can only train 4 or 5 times, I'll start off light, and then do the last two sessions in 14 or 16 oz to exhaust the muscles before recovering for a few days. Sparring always 16oz, and padwork between 8 and 12oz is best for me. Bagwork, I follow the above. If you can only get one pair of gloves and don't spar, I'd typically recommend 12oz, or 10oz if you're very small. I have over 40 pairs of gloves I'll rotate through based on how I'm feeling and what I'm doing that day. Also a fun motivator to get you to the gym using a glove you may not have used for a week or two and get excited about wearing again. I get butterflies before every training session. Boxing is life

      Where I'm from, sanctioned bouts use 10 oz gloves. Would you reccomend training in 10 oz gloves or would there be any value in training in 8's? I have both but I'm looking at buying a new pair of gloves and can't decide. The 10 oz fighting sport gloves I have are too big so my hand shifts around inside the glove and sometimes gives me stingers, but my 8oz adidas gloves I have, have no wrist support so I have to be cautious about how I place my punches. I'm leaning more towards 8 but I'm also thinking about the value of training in the glove that I'm going to be competing in.

      @@marshallmaia8130 Unless money is no object, I would get a pair of 10oz that best fit your hand. That would be most important as you'd be fighting in 10oz. The 8oz would be more niche and for developing handspeed but you can pretty much do the same thing in 10oz gloves. Personally I would have a good pair of 10oz gloves and a good pair of 14oz/16oz gloves for your case. You can do strength training / muscle building / sparring with the 14oz or 16oz (not sure if they let you spar with 14oz), and then practice hand speed and fight movement with 10oz. Safest bet is 10oz and 16oz for sparring, but I do feel 16oz is overkill for bagwork. I have a pair of 18oz i love to use for strength training, but unless your looking to spend tons of money and have gloves in every oz just stick to a good fitting pair of 10oz and if still money left to spend you can get a pair of 14 or 16 oz. My favorite glove is the venum hammer. great feedback, amazing protection, hold up super well, and you can usually get on sale for 50 to 70% off most of the year. I also recommend winning kvlr hand wraps if you arent taping every session.

      @@mikeyp8778 I appreciate the response, yeah I think you swayed me into getting another pair of 10oz. I do have 16oz twins for sparring, 14oz triumph united that I absolutely demolished , 10oz hayabusa glory that are discontinued so I don't want to make those my daily driver, id rather save them for fight camps, and then the other 10 and 8 oz I was referring too. While I like the fact that 8oz gloves give the same value as training in bag mitts, I think having a solid daily driver 10oz will be more valuable when It comes to competition prep.

    One other thing, I’ve tried various knuckle guards. Skulltec, etc. for me the best ones are the Box Raw knuckle guards. The only problem I sometimes have is getting my hand in the glove after wrapping. So I can only use them on certain gloves. But they definitely seem to be the most protective. For me. I just wish they weren’t so bulky.

  • @peejuu

    Great advice just would like to add for those with small hands who has a hand circumference of less than 7 inches try to buy specific gloves that are made for small hands like Rival has Guerrero gloves that comes in small or large and the regular for medium hands yes you can also wear extra hand wraps around the knuckles to fit small hands into bigger gloves but it takes away the ergonomics of the gloves it self since now there is also more material around the palm which makes it harder to make a fist upon impact.
    Some guys just dont want to or are embarrassed to acknowledge they have small hands and will use this extra wrapping technique but in turn it hurts their boxing technique.

    Excellent video as always. The advice you gave about people needing to focus on how the gloves makes your hands feel is the number one issue to focus on. Glove ergonomics can have a major impact on punching technique and long term injuries. I got swept up in chasing gloves that everybody raved about (Rival RB50s)but after buying and using them, I received nothing but pain, discomfort and disappointment. We have to look past the brands, marketing and price points and remember to find a pair of glovee that compliments the users punching technique and physiology. The best bag gloves are the gloves that fit your hands and compliment your punching angle, everything else is secondary.
    Keep up the great work. This message needed to be repeated every so often.

      @@battlevain no problem. but check that the gloves are good fit, since its handmade. not sure if covid affected its production line. i had gotten bad sized one previously. but if the fit was good, then it will be a really good glove for pads/ any sort of bag work, including heavy bag. mine had issues at the thumb area for the left glove.
      on the other hand, the "reyes training glove" is usually on the heavier side. i owned a 12oz that weighs almost 16oz. but it fits well with good weight distribution too.
      but in any case, try to get 10~12oz gloves for any sort of training. its much better. you can use 16oz for conditioning, but it might put stress on your body if you ain't "fit enough". use 16oz sparingly; 8~12oz as much as you want.

    • @battlevain
      @battlevain Год назад +1

      @@viiviizzz Thanks for the insights. I tend to need 16oz gloves for fitment purposes and for knuckle protection for my hands. I like to go hard on the heavy bag for my conditioning and so I find that I can make a good fist wearing 16oz gloves and this is an important factor about glove size too.

Bag on a 45 degree angle sometimes. I have a 34kg everlast powercore bag, not heavy enough moving too much (I am 93kg).. Also you need a quality bag as stuffing shifts to base making kidney & rib punches extremely taxing (hard) on hands.

    Hand position and ergonomics is the most overlooked thing about gloves. I wanted a pair of bag gloves for heavy hitting so of course I went for 16oz. Got the RDX S-5. After ten rounds of throwing bombs my hands feel stiff the next day, which I never got from using the cheap old kicked-in 14oz gloves they replaced. I find that I just cant make as tight of a fist, and for some reason I tend to feel my shots in my ring and pinky finger more than with the cheap old gloves. Still hoping they break in more so I can make a tighter fist and land cleaner but next time I need new ones Im gonna pay more attention to hand ergonomics than to weight and padding.

    • @csquaredboxing
      @csquaredboxing  8 месяцев назад +1

      Spot on, it’s something I learned over the years myself. More important than weight, style of padding, aesthetics, etc. can have all these great features but if you can’t make a proper fist and feel connected with the glove then you’re not getting the most out of it. Especially protection and comfort.

  • @funkrates4778
    @funkrates4778 Год назад +1

    For me it’s a glove that prevents bruised knuckles. Once I get a bruised knuckle, heavy bag training is off the table for sometimes a couple months. Plus I need a glove that has padding that won’t quickly break down. I like to do 50 min sessions on the bag, so there’s a lot of wear and tear going on.

      @@battlevain yeah. For sure. For me it’s that tendon that goes over the knuckle. After awhile, I think it is toughened or deadened because in time it goes away and doesn’t come back. However, every time I take an extended break ( roughly a year due to other sports), it becomes vulnerable to injury again. Does that happen to you? It’s annoying because it forces me to have to avoid certain activities for a month or more.

    The main problem with my 12oz top kings is that they're light but top king includes so much padding that i cant feel the impact of my punch. I’m 6’3”, 250lbs. Sharing my $0.02 as additional consideration. I started with 14oz. Went to 18oz. Then later got 12oz gloves. Without doubt my form is 10x better with the 12oz gloves, speed is there, I’m sharper, etc. 18oz gloves are more for a shoulder/stamina workout. I’m at a point now where I’d cycle between both sets of gloves but I can’t see myself using my 18oz gloves more than my 12oz. 18oz are cushiony and my punches lack the snap I want to get from my sessions vs having clean, sharp jabs and working on my movement without.
      TLDR; 12oz are my go-to, great for combos, technical work, and doing footwork without worrying to balance the sluggish 18oz glove. If I had to choose one, 12oz gloves.
