This is my reaction to Johan Glans - The Swedish Defense
In this video I react to Swedish comedy from Swedish comedian Johan Glans in a parody of him playing a Swedish defense minister on a mock television news show.

We used to have a massive defense but it was diminished after the soviet union collapsed. These days we do have top notch equipment and weapons industry but too few soldiers. Things are improving but it takes time.
We have enough soldiers for the high tech defence we have now but it will expand as we expand the defence system locations and contribute to NATO operations.

Fun fact, the other comedian in this scetch who plays the news anchor, Mikael Tornving, is actually a captain in the Swedish reserve.

Well he is still a captain, you dont lose your rank when you retire. But yeah he aint with the military atm.
We actually had a politician not long ago who said if the war came she would flee to Norway lol
It's a wet dream of hers, steal tax money and flee to Norway when the Russians come.

Red Alert the game is beginning to look like a prediction, instead of a fun game. Except every party is a communist nation, except the Russian federation. If the Americans are going to leave the Dems in power well, Communism will succeed there, and China is already Communist.

SNN News is a Swedish news-parody show starring Mikael Tornving as the news anchor. There is a lot fun from this show, 18 episodes between 2013 - 2014.
So comedians saw this problem in 2014 and it took the politician a mere 10 more years to catch up?
This is one of my fav sketches, I have seen it numerous of times! The funny and scary thing is the level of truth it is to this...
One thing worth mentioning is the bit about the white flag. There is actually written in the swedish constitution that we can not surrender. So there is no legal way for any swedish governemt to do that. Together with the conscription we had before, with pretty much every male in Sweden being trained for guerilla warfare, that made Sweden a target that would cost way more than it was worth.
Today. Or rather when this was filmed, that huge conscription army is long gone and the defence was pretty much a joke..
A Swedish party leader actually started talking about possibly fleeing to Norway if the Russians came. She was forced to resign after that statement.

@@MagnusWissler Take your pick. Exactly all the Swedish media reported on it and it came from the horse's mouth that she said it, even if she wanted to call it a thought experiment. Party leaders' first thoughts about war in their country should be how to save the country, not how to escape themselves. Google "Nyamko Saboni Norway" and you'll get a taste of the reporting if you missed it
@@MagnusWissler Det var Nyamko Sabuni. Negern i Liberalerna, om någon minns henne... Givetvis var det inte enkom uttalandet om att hon skulle fly till Norge vid en invasion som tvingade henne att avgå. Men det har i media beskrivits som "droppen som fick bägaren att rinna över". Det tar inte långa stunden att googla.

Sabuni från L tyckte det var en bra ide att dra till Norge om kriget kommer...
That pretty much summed up the swedish defense doctrine after Putin took over in Russia. They saw him as a stable ruler and that there was no threat of military actions within at least ten years.
So that's pretty much both the social democratic party and moderates through their ruling governments over the past 25 years.
History will always come back and judge your past decisions.
And the host next to Johan (Mikael Torving) is besides a really funny comedian a past reserve officer with proper special forces training. Which makes this sketch even more hilarious. 😁
Oh and this clip was from 2014 when Russia first invaded Crimea.
And then Ukraine happened and boom we’re in NATO now.
@@peartree8338 invaded is strong wording for defending Russian territory, and seeing as that Crimea is the only place in the Black Sea that they have had a naval base the past 100 years... When Ukraine seceded from the USSR the Brits included Crimea in the territories and forced Ukraine to send back all the nuclear weapons they had to Russia.
Because the Brits wouldn't want another Eastern Bloc State with Nuclear Capabilities.
And last time I checked everyone in Crimea and in Eastern Ukraine have always said they're Russians. And if you knew anything about that corrupt nation, you'd know that when the government appropriates your farmland, and sell it to foreign investors, that will make people resent you even more.

It's also kinda funny to talk about Ukranian corruption in a comment about Russia.
Yes that was the view on defense back then. This show is rather old and at the time cuts of defense was the name of the game. Sweden was once a rather formidable force that no country wanted to attack if they did not want to face a massice airforce and an advanced military. This military have been heavily reduced especially during Reinfeldts year as a primeminister (strange enought since he is a conservative). Now though this video is not true either, the truth is somewhere between what Glans is saying and the strong military we once was. Sweden have a very modern defense and produce some top notch military equpment like figher jet Jas, submarines and manpads for example.
Reinfeldt was not a conservative. His party calls itself liberal-conservative and from the 1990s upuntil the migrationcrisis 2015 they emphasized their liberal side very much. Almost noone wanted to be or call themselves conservative at that time in Sweden.

The primeminister we have today (Kristersson) was ultraliberal/neoliberal, and wanted to have open borders for an example, when he was younger but now his party (Moderaterna) like several others have moved in a conservative direction (especially when it comes to migration, criminal policies and defence) due to the conservative trend we have in Sweden today.
This was done a few years ago after a report about the defence that we would only be able to defend a limited localised attack for a week.
We haven't been in war for like 250 years. We don't know what to do😂

Reminds me a bit of the Danish disgruntled politician Mogen Glistrup's proposal that you might as well save millions and millions of Danish kroner by scrapping the entire defense and replacing it with an answering machine that says "we give up" in Russian. This would reduce the defense budget to 80 kroner and 75 öre (the cost of the telephone subscription).
This was a sketch from many years ago. Well before Ukraine. Prossibly Crimea (2014). And now Sweden has instead started funding its defense again and joined NATO.
Sweden has one of the best defences against enemy invasion. Systembolagets limited offer and opening hours.
If Sweden was also to change all refrigiator and washing machines to run on 400V 3 phase electricity you would be hard pressed to find any Russian soldiers willing to risk their lives invading Sweden.

Our swedish defense is better than most people know. We just rarely advertise it.
So this was made around in the fall 2013, earlier that year the "Russian easter" happened where Russian fighter jets did a mock attack with nuclear weapons against Swedish targets and our airforce was unable to even scramble a single airplane. The head of the military had also said the same year that our military could only withstand a small attack for a single week, leading to the defense to be mocked as the "One week defense force"
In the years leading up to this cold shower we had dismantled our military and politicians had been talking about how peaceful Europe was and refused to believe the "lies" that Russia was an aggressive power that shouldn't be underestimated. Then in 2014 the Crimean annexation happened and our politicians scrambled to build up our defense again (haha, no just kidding, it would take until like 2018 when they realised maybe we need to do something, and then we took it slow until 2022)
We wrote a paper with the Russians that said we will never fight each other no more 200 years ago so I feel me safe 😌. It was written around the same time we give them Finland 😀. And on a strange way get Norway instead 😕.

There are multiple scetches from the same "news show". It is a fictive(?) news show and it is not based on anything that exists i belive. All of the scetches from this show is absolutely hillarious and you shold react to more of them. Robert Gustafsson has done multiple episodes of this in multiple charachters. One of the funniest is where he plays i man calles Lars-Åke Fahlén
this video was created back when Sweden had heavily reduced defence spending due to thinking that the age of conquests were over. Today, due to what russia has been doing recently the military in Sweden is a lot more capeable

Well we are in NATO now and the budgeting for defense is over 2% probably x4 higher than then, and mandatory military training (for picked recruits) since 5ish years? but it will take some time to rebuild
You should watch Flyktingkrisen by Grotesco! It is maybe the most well made political satire I can think of. It is a series clips, maybe 30 minutes all together. Just start with the integrationsdebattle in the parliament and see what you think.

Sweden is, as of this year, a member state in NATO. So no, the message of this skit is not as accurate anymore.
This piece is a kind of satire about how the politicians decided to starve the defense budget and capabilities for a long time. And how the communications from the armed forces kept stonewalling reasonable questions about how that would influence response capacity in the event of an invasion. And the sense of bewilderment and latent fear that this imposes on the populaton when they don't make sense of the things they see and hear and what they are told.
In this piece, Glans portrays a character that is at least honest. Refreshingly so :-) Which is why the humor lands so well with us Swedes ;-)
