The old focus looked mean but looked bloated, this just ticks every box, mean sharper look while not looking like it’s just eaten another car 😂 😍😍
Basically a hybrid of the 1 series bmw and the Mercedes A class.

Fantastic review of what I feel is a fantastic car. Hats off to the reviewer for a fact filled useful consumer knowledge presentation of this vehicle. I own a jurassic Mk2 Ford Focus 1.6 litre petrol zetec and test drove one of these - a demonstrator - at the Ford Uxbridge dealership this exact model and colour without the B & O sound system or panoramic roof. What got me about this car - yes I was also funny about the faux carbon fibre - was the view out of the front, you can actually see the bonnet in my ford focus I can only see the dashboard, so guessing where the bonnet/bumper was, was guesswork and I got it wrong a few times. The car felt planted around corners and for an electric steering rack I felt I got suffice feedback. It feels a lot faster than the 11.3 seconds 0-60 mph stated time, the 1.0 litre ecoboost engine was responsive and felt deceptively brisk. The brakes were sharp and superb. On michelin tyres and at 50 mph the cabin was silent. I have not driven an 8 speed Zf automatic from a BMW 1 series but it is a competitor to this car but I have a drove a diesel manual facelift 2018 F21 BMW 116d: the gears were too close together and it had this function where gas was added as you lift your foot off the clutch, for me that made the car feel automated and disconnected from the driver - let me do it myself in't that what a manual car is about. The Bmw 116d was also juddery at crawling speeds in first gear. For me, this car is a perfect integration of man and machine before the driverless and electric cars takeover. I know in modern day cars you have all the amenities and electrical assists/devices that trick into to thinking you are on a par with Lewis Hamilton: power assisted steering, traction control, Electrical Stability Control etc. But this car tricks you into thinking that all the glee that is derived from driving this car is on you and is a complement to your driving skills not computers - of which it is. I dof my hat off to Ford for this one, from the MK1 Ford Focus they have come leaps and bounds. I left my test drive wanting to order mine from the factory there and then but unfortunately funds do not currently allow give it six months and a PCP and I most likely will. Though my heart does take a shine to the Mercedes CLA petrol 1.6 or 2.0 litre with the 7G TRONIC gearbox and petrol engine. That is what we need reviews of every day cars by every day people. P.S I am waxing lyrical about a car that so common, but until I am in a position to drive the pinnacle of automotive design and engineering I will be blown away by cars that elevate me from the bland experience of a MK2 Ford Focus 1.6 litre zetec such as this one. Thank You Mr Codietec.

See with the 0-60. It's manufacturer's test. They don't let a race driver test it. I had a 1.0 Seat Ibiza FR (Similar to this) rated at 9.6 seconds 0-62 - I personally tested it (legally) in Sports Mode near red rpms and managed to do it in about 7.5 seconds. - So the best way to test the real 0-60 / 62 is "drive it like you stole it". Just stay within the law lol

for 24k it looks very cheap (looks like a Mazda 3), considering its at the bottom of the engine list. Its a 1.0ltr with a turbo... nothing new so engine wise its 5 year+ old tech, interior looks like 10 year old style and cheap plastics. I wouldn't complain if it was 17k mark.. but 24k is taking the piss... you are playing 10k more for 5 doors and about 30cm more room...than the same engine in a 30cm less internally spaced car! you also recommend:
    audio £350
    roof £995
    paint £645
    adaptive lights £1050
    £27, 040 - You must be insane!
    - If you are choosing to drive a 1ltr, you must not be able to afford fuel for a 2.0ltr? Why would you choose a 1ltr petrol over a diesel if your concerns are as stated resale value/ fuel costs?
    - Go and get a Skoda Ocativa VRS (diesel) 2017 from £17k - it will be worth 5k more after 5 years also!

You need to crash it, it's a tradition to crash your first car, I put mine through a hedge and because it was French it burst into a million pieces.

Disappointed in Ford with this. This new shape focus looks like a Mazda 3, which is awful. I have a Ford Focus ST3 2017 and my car looks so much more beefier than this. Not liking this new shape at all, also point to note is that this car being reviewed is an ST line and not an ST, so will be interesting to see the ST model when that comes out, but this particular model I would never buy. Good review but just not feverish about this car.

Thanks for the honest review mate. I agree that the ST version will need to be a lot more sporty. It was an interesting car to drive. Still rather my Fiesta ST3 than one of these. Too much fun

Aye but a 1.0 these days isn't like an old skool 1.0 remember. And that 25k represents much more than just the engine. Plenty of us aren't in it for how fast we can get to the next set of lights on the commute :)

if you are buying a brand new car only for the engine, then you are fairly stupid, buy a used car if you have to have a v10 5.2l 5000 horsepower

Pretty nice on the outside, that blue is lovely and i like the contours....however inside is cheap, nasty plastics and now very outdated looking for 2017 let alone 2019.
That instrument cluster is pretty damn poor - looks like it was lifted out of a 20 year old car and a LCD screen retrofitted to the middle of it, the rest looks no better than what you would get on a £10k Vauxhall Corsa.
Ford could learn a lot from the Germans on interiors.

Didn't realise Ford are doing the same thing VW have done with their sports high end badge 'ST' - they sticking it on anything now, just like VW have stuck 'GTI' and 'R' on just about anything.....i swear i saw a GTI fridge and washing machine in the showroom, next to the GTI Up, GTI Polo, Tiguan R, Touran R, Passat R etc
