Interesting how history refers to Mary 1 as bloody, when Henry VIII was responsible for the death of 3% (approx 70,000) of the English population during his reign.

He was obviously a man of courage. I respect him. Though it must have been awful for his wife and children. Bloody Mary had these intense migraines, in studying this somewhat questionable character l had to reach the conclusion that she was neurotic and taking comfort from the Catholic religion. Which she obviously did not respect, since they are taught not to kill. To me she is a repulsive woman. Even in her marriage she was neurotic. I'm glad we live in modern times. I hope in future generations all this hysteria and neurosis disappears from all religions.

None of the persecutions, wars, murders, inquisitions/torture, invasions and genocide would have happened if the Vatican had not approved of and especially encouraged them. All of the vile and insidious reaction came from Rome because their stranglehold on money, politics, and absolute control over people was being challenged. The challenge came from people who actually read the Bible and could see the Vatican had derailed from the Bible long ago.
This is why the RCC strongly prohibited translation of the Bible into the people's tongue, even to the point of death sentences. They knew once the people could read the Bible, they'd start noticiing the big gap between what they were told and what the Bible actually says. Since they had no answers for WHY they pushed unbiblical beliefs, the people would abandon the RCC and there would go all their wealth and worldly pomp and possessions.
This all could have been avoided if the church leaders had stuck to Christ's teaching & commands and not derailed it by adding unbiblical practices. Or if the papacy admitted they had sharply veered away and took real steps to eliminate the man-made (even pagan) elements. But Rome was determined to stay derailed and doubled down on their errors, with far more violence and active encouragement of violence and murder.

Her mother was Spanish, and even her father was a practising Catholic to his dying day .Not altogether surprising she was a Catholic .As the queen, she had to take one side or the other, as there was no middle ground on religion back then .

Translating the Bible was never banned from fear of learning but because those early translations were truly awful and full of errors and deliberate manipulation. Even Luther added the "alone" to "saved by faith" in Romans AND removed seven of the Holy Books entirely and would have removed even the Gospel of St Luke and Epistel of St James if he had dared to. The translations and those that spread them weren't feared because the people suddenly understood their Faith properly, but because they were a political tool used to lead souls astray and stir up unrest. Also, Mary executed waaaay less people then "Good Queen Bess", even when adjusted for the lengths of their reigns.
