- Short video today about two ShadowClan grandmas. Silverflame is the grandmother of Yellowfang and Tawnypelt is the grandmother of Shadowsight. We talk about how they interact with their grandkits and some other things that happen in the books they appear in.

I was so confused by that Silverflame announcement in Tallstar's Revenge every time I reread it! So many errors in cat books >.
Warriors could do more with character relationships outside of the basic parents and siblings. I don't think they actually have names of familial connections outside of the stock standard basic ones. They barely touch on cousins or grandparents, but then again, with how related some of the cats in the clans are and with how inflated the numbers have, I'm not surprised they tend to forget these things.
Bristlefrost and shadowsight, who are acknowledged to be cousins in a previous arc, barely interact and have no connection (emotional for example) to each other apart from rootspring. It kills me that the erins missed such a big link between the two.
I knew about the grandparent relationships between sandstorm and alderheart (my personal favourite) and tawnypelt but I should really get around to reading yellowfangs book. From what you've described about silverflame, I would probably really like it.

Also what's the name of the song playing in the background. It sounds extremely familiar but I can't place a finger on it.
Silverflame was such a nice cat. I’d like to know more about her just from her appearance in Yellowfang’s Secret. I wish I had more to say about her but she only has a minor role in the Super Edition.

I just think it would be funny if Sleekwhisker came in with an elderly Sol saying he would kick ThunderClan’s butts and then ask them to take care of him 😅 since he would be pretty old by now
One thing I hate in Tawnypelt's clan is that when Shadowkit is having his seizures Dovewing and Tawnypelt immediately restrain him to 'help'. Yeah I get it, they're cats they don't know what to do. But they've amputated limbs with rocks just fine so-
And it's more that what will happen if let's say- a 6-8 year old is reading it (despite it being a teen-young adult series) , sees someone having a seizure and starts holding them down because the kitty cats did it so it must be the correct thing to do. It's not as bad as Spottedleaf's Heart so I shouldn't really complain.
I’ve noticed that they hold Shadowkit down during several of his seizures. Obviously they’re cats and they don’t know any better but that’s not something you’re supposed to do when someone is having a seizure. It’s hard to read when it happens and made me really uncomfortable when they kept doing it.
Maybe they meant to keep Shadowkit from hurting himself but restraining him was more likely to do that. There wasn’t someone in the book to say “actually that’s bad stop doing that”.
DUDE i worry about the same thing!!! they also have done the "they will choke on their tongue" thing which can't even happen
I wish we had more family interactions beyond parents with kits and siblings with siblings. I would love to see a pair of cousins growing up together or a main protagonist growing up with their same age aunt or same age niece/nephew/nibbling. Not in a romantic way at all, but kin that share a close friendship to the point that their bond is mistaken for that of siblings by strangers and they’re more than ok with that. Lionblaze and Jayfeather seemed just plain annoyed by Dovewing and Ivypool and Bristlefrost only ever mentioned being kin to Shadowsight like once and that was in a very “oh right, I’m related to that weirdo, poor me” kind of way. And those are really the only extended family interactions we see. Siblings stop being acknowledged as siblings once one of them becomes a warrior unless it’s relevant. Same with parents, once their kits become apprentices. It’s like they add “X’s sister” or “Y’s father” as an after thought to remind us of their connection. And then there’s remembering the kin of cats outside the main protagonist group. Even Graystripe had to remind himself that Thornclaw is his son-in-law and it sometimes seems to come as a shock to the main protagonist when they think to themselves “A is B’s mother/father/brother/sister.” Even when they talked about Dappletuft’s death in Veil of Shadows, they mention of his kin wanting to mourn him but not being able to because of the circumstances of his death seems like an after thought than a reflection on how the issue of the imposter was tearing Clans and families apart. I just wish we could see more family interactions with both immediate and extended relatives. That should be easy in ThunderClan, where one half of the warriors are related to Firestar in one way or another.
I never got far in Yellowfang’s Secret. But based on what you say here-excessive water drinking combined with poor appetite, and being ill over an extended period before dying-I assume that Silverflame died of kidney disease.
Hey! I recently found your channel and bing watched every video hehe. Do you have any plans to make a video on whitestorm? I really love his fatherly wise old man role has towards Fireheart. And he was the last cat Bluestar trust and he seemed to know that he would die in the battle against BloodClan. In my hc Snowpelt told him in a dream.
Whitestorm is one of my favorite cats! I haven’t got around to analyzing him yet but he’ll be on the list sooner or later.
