    Deborah!! Greetings from Dallas! It’s always so good to get a video from you!! Not much going on here except surviving the heat! Love your needleminder board! I have mine on the back of my metal pattern stand but it’s getting filled up! I may have to look at something similar to what you have. Hope all is well with you and the kitties! ❤

      Michael! I hope you're staying cool! I've had my needleminders on a shortbread tin so far, but same with me -- it was getting full. That's a problem with the size of the tin, not with the size of my needleminder collection, of course! :D

    Hi Deborah! Sorry I have been so quiet the last few months. I lost my stitchy bug twice already this year for 10 days and then for 3 weeks and didn't watch floss tubes for a while either. The last time happened after the apartment next to ours caught fire (suspicions of an unextinguished cigarette and/or vape unit through the grapevine). My mom and I went to the store and came home to fire trucks blocking the way into our section so I drove around the other way and we could get as close as the next set of apartment buildings to find out that it was the apartment next to ours. We were in a panic because both of our cats were in there. We explained it to the firemen but were not allowed in for a while because the CO levels were too high. Finally was able to get in with the understanding that if the fireman told us to get out, it would immediate exit because of the CO levels. Went in, nothing burned but my bedroom, closet and bathroom had standing water. My cat was laying back in the closet in a soaking wet cat bed and mom's cat was in her bedroom on a chair he never sits in. We rounded up the cats and got out of there, spent the night at my daughter's an hour away, came home the next afternoon without the cats since we didn't know what the situation was. They brought in 2 huge HEPA filters for the particles and smells (there had been tires on the neighbor's patio which had burned) and a super-heater dehumidifier to dry up the standing water, and had ServPro on site to help with clean up of the standing water, etc. They said not to mop the floors, etc. as they would take care of that but it was taking the cleaners too long to get here and there was no way I was letting my grandson crawl around and play on the floors, so I mopped each area about the size of a toddler bed twice with ammonia and water (and it was so disgusting) so he could at least play on the floor over the weekend. My cat stopped eating a short while later and passed away almost exactly a month after the fire. She was 13, so I am dealing with that. I was lucky enough to have gotten home about half an hour before she died (mom had a pain injection appointment), so was able to hold her the entire process of her passing, through the Cheyne-Stokes respirations and all. I did start a piece called Rainbow Crossing by Silver Creek on the night that she died and will put her name and date of passing, along with a couple other very specials cats in my life, in the clouds above the bridge. Mom and I had been looking for a new place to rent as we both wanted a home instead of an apartment for a few months without much luck. Found out the end of last week that we were approved for a house in Temple which is about an hour north of here while my daughter is about an hour east of here so will have to travel more miles but about the same amount of time back and forth. The backyard is smaller, and has several crepe myrtles and a pink rosebush, but will be a great place for Walter to play. The front yard has a magnolia tree in it and 4 or 5 good-sized rosebushes and shrubs in it. I will have to start mowing grass again but think the yard is small enough that it will be manageable even in the Texas heat. The house is about 200 sq ft larger than the apartment is plus has a 2-car garage attached for less than $200 a month more since our rent would be going up $125 per month more on top of $150 that it went up last year. Walter is growing so much, has grown over 1-1/2 inches since Christmas, and he is smart as a whip, can carry on a full-fledged conversation with him and he understands most things. He is so compassionate. I had told him the weekend before Baby passed that I didn't think Baby was going to be with us much longer but would be seeing my mom's cat Freckles (who died about 3 months ago) soon in kitty heaven and that is why I was sitting on the closet floor and keeping her company. He immediately wanted to sit there with me and wanted to pet her but didn't want to hurt her, so I told him where he could pet her and that she would like it. I told him he could go back to playing, that I'd be out in a couple of minutes and he said, "No Grandma, I would rather sit on the floor too and stay with you and Baby". I am happy to see that you are back to your perforated paper small pieces. You have been getting a lot of stitching done again. I love listening to you talk about your new bird feeders. Good luck with keeping the squirrel out...I have been a birder nearly all my 67 years and have not found a squirrel proof feeder yet. I have hard that putting red pepper flakes in with the birdseed is a deterrent for squirrels but doesn't bother the birds. Hope the bird feeder is still supplying Doc and Wesley with lots of entertainment. Give them hugs and kisses from me. Take care and enjoy the rest of the summer. Dawn in Texas

    • @kensingtoncrossstitch
      @kensingtoncrossstitch  23 дня назад +1

      Oh, Dawn -- I am so sorry to hear about everything you have been experiencing these last few months! Between the fire and the loss of your Baby and then moving to a new place -- that is a lot to happen. But I am so glad you and Walter were with Baby at the end. And your new home sounds lovely! Even with more miles, it sounds like a real home and place Walter will love to grow up in. I look forward to hearing more about as you get settled in. The cats here are enjoying the bird feeders -- as are the birds! The Yankee Flipper seems to be doing it's job, as no squirrels have been eating the food since I put it out. I've seen a couple get their front paws on it, but that's it, and off they go (very gently...). I wish you an enjoyable rest of the summer too!

    Great to see you again. Congratulations on 2.5 subscribers. I’m actually participating in a SAL which I hardly ever do, but really wanted the pattern. It’s HOD Hygge Holiday. The SAL starts today. I’ll see if I can keep up. I love the type of eclectic store you were talking about. Those are so much fun. You never know what you’ll find. I made a needle minder from a dog tag from the vet that looks just like my dog. They had a whole spinner of different dogs and cats. I first used it on my key chain, then thought needle minder 😅. It’s funny you mentioned a “house theme” for the giveaways. I’m stitching Tea House by Lori Holt right now, I finished The Beach House by FQS, before that was Canada Sampler with a big house by Erin Elizabeth, and before that was Home of a Needleworker. 4 houses in a row. Wasn’t planned either. lol

    Lovely to see you and have a catch up today. I do agree with you in respect of your WIP on dark fabric. I love the book/reading idea . Like you I use to be a prolific reader, but now not so much, so I think I might try a book list like you and see if that kickstarts my love of reading once more. I have collected a few patriotic projects that I want to stitch over the next couple of years, most notably the Stars & Stripes collaboration between Plum Street and Shakespeare's Peddler. Those little ornaments you are working on are absolutely darling, and I agree that the thread carries will not detract, especially with the finishes you are planning. Your book talk made me nod in agreement several times, in particular the inordinate amount of pleasure I get from checking something off a list! (Do you think it's OK to write the thing you have just done on a list and then check it off? Asking for a friend ...)

It's available on Etsy in both the min/max temperature version and one that just uses the max temperature of the day. I used my own colors, but otherwise stitched it exactly as charted. I am so happy with how it turned out!

    Beautiful update. My only challenge for reading is to read 40 books a year, and that works well for me. 1.

      I think that's a great way to go about it! I used to set challenges for numbers of books too -- and then I'd always have a flurry of short books right at the end to make it. :D

    Such a nice visit! What a neat idea to read children/teen literature! Just because there are no kids in my surroundings, why ignore such a glorious source of books!!! I think I need to take my One Nation WIP (the big American Flag with the state names on it) and break it down to have a finish for the 250th anniversary. I did not get as much done on it this July as I hoped and I love your idea of having a finish for that celebration. I can always finish it sooner but given ALL the things and holidays to stitch this might be the plan!

      I absolutely agree! Just because we aren't kids anymore doesn't mean we can't enjoy all the great books written for them that's out there. Oh, that One Nation pattern intimidates me! I really admire those who are working on it. Love the idea of breaking it down to have it done by the 250th too!

    1 I’m hoping to start the sing a sampler series in September or October too, still need to purchase it and then kit it up. I may do a color conversion I saw for it. Would love to see how you rechart the runner. 3 I like to use the app storygraph for reading challenges, but I also do a book journal sometime too to keep track them. 4 I like some of the challenges like read the 50 states or read around the world. It helps me read more of a variety of books.

      Oh yay! Glad someone else will be stitching the Sing a Sampler series soon too. I've seen some really lovely color conversions on Instagram. Funnily enough, I've also printed out 50 states and read around the world challengers too! I am not focusing on them yet, but I think they'll be such a great way to think differently about what to read.

    On carrying on the perforated paper - maybe back the paper with the color you carried the most, such as red threads, red backing to minimize the showing? Congrats on 2.5k!!!! I'm definitely going to try out that bird feeder! I don't mind sharing with the squirrels, but they're actually acting more like little piggies....1, 4 Nice idea on the needle minders! I purchased a black wire tree wall decor at Hobby Lobby, I believe, and hang my needle minders on that. Not overly big, trees are pretty, and the needle minders look like colorful leaves. Great video - THANK YOU!

      Thank you! Yes, that was the advice I'd gotten from another stitcher too: to use a backing that's the same as the prominent color. I think it's a great idea. That's how I feel about squirrels too. I don't mind having them around or if they eat what's been dropped on the ground, but I don't want them on the feeders themselves. The Yankee Flipper is an investment, but so far, I haven't seen a single squirrel at the feeder now either!

    I read a book in my car and it is usually non-fiction and read a fiction. My favorites being murder mystery & historical fiction. We have a bookclub in our condo community. Your plan sounds ds good as I really don't have a lot of time

      Thank you so much! The stitch you mentioned is "Rainbow Temperature Supernova", the mix/max temperature version, by Climbing Goat Designs on Etsy. I used my own colors but followed the pattern as designed. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a temperature chart.

      Oh, no! I am pretty sure I bought it from Thistle Needleworks in Wethersfield, CT. They have a lot of older stock. I don't know if they have another copy, but they do sell online too.
