    Thanks for sharing!
    Took 30 minutes to replace gas coils. Worked like a charm and wifey thinks I'm awesome!

    My coil resistance checked OK. It was the coils. Gas would Turn on once , got hot and turned off gas flame, would never come on again. Dryer had to cool off , then it would go through the same cycle. Thanks for the video.

      My coil resistance was good too. Igniter would cycle about 3 or 4 times and then stop cycling. Still a bad solenoid?

    Wanted to say THANK YOU! for sharing this info. It was spot on. Replaced the solenoids and all is working well. Without this video I'm sure I would have ended buying a new dryer which I really can't afford at this time.
    Thanks again

    Excellent Video! This was exactly the problem with my Whirlpool dryer: Bad Gas coils. I followed your instructions in this video to the letter and turned a potential $200 job (If I had to hire a professional) into a $6.63 job by doing it myself. The only expense being buying the gas coils ($6.63). A savings of 193.37. Thank you so very much. This video is extremely helpful for those who have this exact problem with their Whirlpool/Kenmore gas driers. God bless.

    Awesome video. Just a note, I was able to change the solenoid coils tying the drum (used wire coat hanger bent and placed under drum screw and hooked to top)up so eliminated a step. Not my idea…I saw it on another video. There’s not as much room but it still worked fine. Thanks again

I'll definitely follow you. Any videos on regular washer maintenance; esp. The water pump to keep it from going bad. Tx u.

    Hi Tim,
    Excellent video! It answered a bunch of my questions. My dryer would fire up for a minute, then the flame would go out. After the flame-out, the igniter would come on, but no relight. I tested the coils, which put out all of the right numbers exactly. Problem was, everything else tested good as well. I read elsewhere that the coils can work perfectly until they heat up, then loose continuity due to a break in the coils responding to heat. I took a $20 chance and replaced them. (Easy, by the way.) My 35 year old Kenmore dryer is back in business!
    You made a great video which helped save me a lot of money, and more importantly, the 2 week wait for an appointment with no dryer, then missing work waiting around for a repair guy. Thanks!

    That’s the sound of the inspection plate going back on after fixing my dryer. This video saved me over $100.00. The best part was having you check for flame in the burner first, instead of checking all the parts in the back of the dryer first. Don’t have to drag it out and remove the back. Saves a lot of time if you have intermittent heating. $10.00 fix.
    Thanks for keeping the old whirlpool running a little longer!

    I wanted to thank you for this video. The audible troubleshooting saved me a bunch of guesswork ...yep, it was the gas coils. Replaced them and ran lap timer to track how long the flame lasts & the time in between flame termination & ignition cycles. All the sounds the dryer makes were good, but the old coils ran flame for about 2 minutes then terminated for 2 minutes before cycling again...until the 15 minute mark. After running the dryer 15 minutes, the igniter would glow & no flame was produced.
    New coils run flame for about 4-5 min (depending on how warm the dryer is I assume) with a 2-4 minute termination (same reason I assume) before cycling the igniter again. 30 minutes running & flame is still igniting.

    great explanation. My dryer turns on for about 10 min, and then turns off. I removed the switches, and would like to buy them, but they all have continuity. I'm wondering if the gas coils are what's wrong, after watching this video. Thank you.

    Thanks, this was the exact fix for my dryer. Local parts supplier wanted $28.00 plus tax for the set of two solenoids. Another supplier wanted $38.00 plus tax. Found on Ebay for between $5.00-7.00 per set with no tax and free shipping.
    Had to buy since dryer needed immediately.
    Unbelievable the difference in price.

    I had same problem. Ordered two new coils and replaced them. Your video was extreamly useful, since it gave me an idea what i had to do. I would have quit once i hit a roadblock . but your video provided great instructions. I removed the top cap and could NOT disconnect the door electrical connection so i just swung the entire front panel to one side. i didnt want to take off dryer drum so i put wood under it and got a small screw driver to remove plate form coils. I removed them and install news one purchased from amazon.
    At first the gas burner lite but went out at 10 minutes. It failed the first 3 times. I thought i purchased bad coils. Then i thought i has a "swinging" trouble where one "breaker" sould stay open. I metered the old coils and had not one but 2 bad coils. Everything still pointed to coils i replaced. Every time i shut off and restarted it worked but would fail with in 10 minutes. Then after reading many post I put in wet clothes and the burner stayed on. Make sure you put in clothes in dryer. I beleive it will trip one of the breakers if you don't. I was 0-5 with out clothes and once wet clothes went in it worked,
    Here is Massachusetts it cost $105 for techntians to just daignose problem. You video was extreamly useful - especially how you zoomed into the coils and show how to test for resistance on each lead,
    Thank you you save me from a very expensive service call and it was a much quicker fix

    Thanks! for the video, was ready to toss my gas dryer and replace it with an electric one we had in the garage, after swapping them found out the electric one was 220V, no room left on the panel and to make room would require major rewiring...your vid saved the day, I had to search elsewhere for the actual testing of the coils and found one to be bad... My problem was the coils died, but I think for a long time before that it was the timer. I had one cycle that wouldn't even work for whatever reason. I took it apart and cleaned the contacts and it was good for a while, but I think that's right where the coil/coils started to go. I took the whole thing apart and cleaned it, replaced the coils, ignitor, flame sensor, timer and thermostat just because the next time this thing fails, I'm shooting it and for now it works like new. Having these vids around was a good reference.

    On mine (Kenmore (Whirlpool)) gas flame doesn't go on at all (or very very very rarely).... The igniter always glows for a minute or so, then shuts down, and cycles repeatedly again the same way, every few minutes.... There is a tiny smell of unburnt gas accompanying the cycling... ** Replaced the gas valve coils and it still does the same thing.... Could it be the gas valves themselves, or something in the burner? I have to add that the vent pipe had been clogged before this all started, but was cleaned out before replacing the valve coils..... ** I'm supposing if I don't hear the second click, it's possible the gas valves are not getting a 'signal' current?

    I watched a bunch of these videos and no one mentioned the issue could be a partially bad circuit breaker. It measured 240volts but was still bad. If the ohm reading smove around on one leg of breaker and not the other the issue could be the breaker.
    I did not need to spend 85o on new dryer.
    Look for a NP error. This is a indication

  • @Superbates123

    Excellent video. Only suggestion I would make is to perhaps mention testing the thermostats as a first step before going to the trouble of opening the dryer and checking the coils. Access to the thermostats is much easier and requires only a simple removal of the back panel. Thermostats are often the problem with faulty heating.

    What if it wasn’t the coils? My dryer has the same symptoms, and I changed the coils but it still switches off. I’ve checked all the conduits from each sensor and they read good. Can it be the timer?

    • @ljslw
      @ljslw 3 года назад

      Check the vent hose for a clog also check where the vent in the wall exits the building. If there’s a clog/restriction and the air flow going out of the dryer is slow, the flame sensor will cut off the flame. This is a safety feature. Gas appliances must have proper ventilation to prevent carbon dioxide poisoning.

    If I check continuity on those coils is it absolutely necessary to let the dryer run for 10 or so minutes? My dryer will not even ignite. I bought new coils because the old ones didn't have continuity. I rechecked for continuity later on and they had continuity so I am beginning to feel that the timer is defective. I have a Kenmore 70 series dryer. How do I check for continuity on the timer on that machine? I'd appreciate your help on this.

    hello.... after watching this video I was realy convinced that infact gas valve coil was the culprit after checking all the thermal sensor and everything else seems okay. when I put the timer to 45 minuites and hit start it has a glow then the gas coil pops and releases gas for the fire to come on after awhile it shots off and never comes back on ...so I head to sears and spent 21 dollars ,I know I know I spent more that I should but I was in a rust to get the parts I figure that my only option besides on line.so I did assembled the unit just like how it shown in the video put the gas coil in after putting everything back together it works like a charm ....hmnnn but I just got one more question to you the old gas coil that I have removed both still have the resistant so that means the winding on the coil is complete. ps...when I opened the front cover of my washing machine I found a whole bucnk of coins worth about 35 dollars believe it or not I was blown away so I figure that pays for my parts......and the labor I think my wife will take care of that for me tonight......

    Put new coils before seeing this video, wasn’t the coils, it still cuts the flame after 10 or so seconds, then won’t come on again So must one of the items on the back panel. New coils was cheap, so I got the old ones as spares. Now to diagnosis the problem, ordered all new items for the back side, hope they are the right one, model numbers listed are not even close but looks like the part so I ordered.

    how long should the flame stay on during timed heat with normal heat ? should it be on for a long time or does it cycle a lot every 12 seconds? im thinking since mine stays on 12 seconds , flame goes out, then back on for 12 seconds, flame goes out, then back on for 12 seconds, and on and on and on , that i have a bad part somewhere on my Maytag Bravos quiet 300 (MGDB200VQ0). sounds like i have a bad coil.....perhaps i need to check resistance on that, and if zero resistance, replace it, but if it reads a resistance, it's ok. when i first start the dryer , the flame will burn for about 23 seconds then shut-off and start that 12 second cycling from that point on....until i shut off the power button and turn back on, then 23 on, off, 12 on, off, 12 on, off. If you can let me know about whether this is coils, i will order them from you ASAP.

      If you have an ignitor that is weak it will have this symptom. Even though the ignitor glows it may still be weak. 80% of the time this symptom is a weak ignitor. Yes...ended up replacing some sort of thermal fuse/or thermostat (Sorry don't remember the name, but it was in rear up near top, about $ 40.). BUT...as I was putting dryer back together I FINALLY noticed that there was a fabric softener sheet stuck over the vent holes on the back wall of dryer. So, maybe the fuse/thermostat fixed it, or maybe removing the obstruction did it. Also, make sure the solenoids are installed the correct side up...there are little dimples/bumps that fit into holes in the bracket. Good luck

    I was having trouble with the heat staying on on my dryer. I called someone to check and they said it was my timer. I got my timer fixed but when I tested the dryer the flame went on for about a minute then off. After a bit I heard the gas n flame go back on. Is that normal? Is because my dryer only had a few pieces in at the time? At least I know my sensors are working properly to avoid overheating.

    • @ljslw
      @ljslw 3 года назад

      When the flame cuts off shortly after it comes on, this happens when there’s a restriction in air flow going outside. Check the vent hose and make sure it’s not squished or kinked. You can take the vent hose off the dryer. Now start the dryer and see if the flame stays on. If it does, then your problem is the air flow going outside. You’d have to clean out the vent in the wall going to outside the building.
      If the flame still cuts off with the vent hose off, then the problem will be in the electrical parts of the burner.

    My dryer gas valve turns on the first time after starting the dryer, gas flame is present for many minutes and eventually goes out. After a while the glow stick will come on and then fade out, the gas valve does not open. This happens over and over, so the clothes take a long time to dry like this. What could this problem be?

    I couldn't see the ohm meter, the gas valves seem to have 3 connectors. Is the continuity supposed to be zero from any terminal to any other or what?

      I replaced the gas coils. Then I re-checked everything and found that the cycle thermostat's top and bottom tabs had closed circuit. I then checked the two side wires (purple on my dryer) and realized they had an open circuit showing 1 ohm. I replaced that but a test showed the same thing out of the package so I'm not sure if those two things are supposed to show a circuit or not...Didn't help. Still not working. The flame ignites and dryer runs for a few minutes with flame the entire time, then shuts off and starts again.....That could be the ignitor?

    • @edk4998
      @edk4998 10 лет назад

      Just checked the ignitor, coils, and flame switch again. Both have resistance. I have a muti-meter where the coils read 1 olm when set at 200, but anywhere higher it's moving Totally at a loss. Even tested door switch (has 3 prongs - male end - that go into 3 holes (female end) and 2 of the 3 prongs read good. The middle one doesn't but I'm not sure if it needs to.
      I have video. Just can't get it to stay on. I can replace every single part but not going to make a difference if it's wiring or something that I can't control.

      Does the ignitor glow ? If it does and you replaced your coils you need to replace the ignitor. The ignitor can have continuity and still be weak. If it glows replace it.

      I had the same issue, took the "valve shut off coils" to my parts guy, he measured the resistance of both coils, both fine. The he took a hair dryer to the coils for 50 seconds, then checked and one of the coils was indeed open. No continuity.
