I have received a lot of feedback saying replacement parts don't look like mine in this video and requests for showing how to wire them up. I'm familiar with the incorrect part that people mistakenly get from time to time but it does come with hardware that will allow you to hook it up. I talk about this in the video posted below as well as an explanation for all the components dealing with the heating element system and how they are wired up. Check the link for the video explanation. Thanks guys! ruclips.net/video/y7_KXHW_x6o/видео.html
You’re a lifesaver man, I’m a mechanic by trade but can figure out stuff, this video helped me fix my aunts dryer in no time. I just haven’t done much home electrical so I’m a bit cautious. I’ve repaired my central air, now this. I’ve told her to order heating element kit on Amazon just to have a spare.
I've talked to many who've done their own repairs. I've watched multiple, multiple videos of pros doing repairs and walking us through it. This is the very first time ever where someone has shown the hitting trick of the thermistor to reset it.
Just wanted to say I appreciate this video. All the other videos I watched just sped through the process, but you explained everything fully. Turns out it was indeed my High Limit Thermostat after checking with the multimeter. I was about to order the piece until you showed that little trick. Saved me time and money. Thank you!
Dryer heating element went on me again. This time shorted to the metal ducting and not just opened up. Replaced the coil and it still wouldn't heat. Followed this guide to test and found the high limit thermostat blew and was open. Handy tip for percussive maintenance. Dryer works fine now!
Awesome video, I watched another earlier and ordered parts to replace element etc. But amazon sent wrong "thermister" that goes above element, so when I saw this one showing how to reset it, it saved me days if not weeks before I would get replacement part, thanks again.
I appreciate your video. I examined the polarity of all three fuses and found them to be intact. Taking advantage of the opportunity with the machine open, I inspected the internal ducting and discovered it was obstructed. After cleaning it and reassembling the dryer, it began heating up again. Interestingly, I had watched 6-7 videos prior to yours, and none of them mentioned checking the internal ducting. Thank you for sharing this valuable information.
Thank you for the video. I had taken apart my dryer and deduced the high temp thermostat as the issue with my voltage meter after I found and removed the clog. I just used your trick to pop it back in place and it works perfectly. Thank you for your professionalism!
Worked as stated. I took the fuse and slammed it a couple times for good measure and BAM a good connection. Threw it back on the dryer, it is now blowing hot air! Thank you, good sir!
Saved me a ton, thanks!! To reset my thermistor, I taped it on a flexible metal ruler and then whacked it on a cast iron skillet. One try, bingo. All good now, cleaned out a pile of crud in the left collection area, prob the culprit. But all good and thanks for a no bs, straight to the goods video.
Great information. I've worked on a lot of our dryers over the years, but had never thought about cleaning out the lint trap blower shut. Boy was it dirty, I bet that fixes why iit was taking extra time to dry. Thanks.
Thank you very much Brother! Best repair video on the Internet!!!! The "trick" with the thermal fuse thing worked perfectly! I had already foolishly replaced about $100 dollars in parts with no luck. Smacked that switch on the pavement, the exact way you demonstrated and fixed! Thank you again Brother!
Good Morning Josh. We had a used dryer for 13 years. Had to replace parts about 3 times, hi/low/and heating element. It's guys like you that make it easy to impress your loved ones to say Hey honey I fix the dryer and it works better than B4. Then she ask, can you fix the dishwasher ? NP we got RUclips & a guy called Dr. Josh~~ thx bud this one helped a lot...
Can't thank you enough! Had to swap in a spare dryer that never seems to dry that efficiently - took the left panel off and the lint pile was so big that it was blocking the exhaust hole. Brushed and vacuumed it all out, and it's like we have a brand new dryer!
We replaced the high limit thermostat AND then heating coils and nada. I just tried this and VOILA! Heat! Thanks dude! My fiance was impressed that I was able to fix it.
Brother, I have had to replace the thermal cutoff fuse on my dryer several times due to my kids over-loading it- thank you so much for adding the “banging the fuse to reset it” trick to my tool box!!!
Thanks so much for this video. Got the maintenance/repair kit and replace the parts and dryer now fixed and running. Saved me a bunch of money for a service call or new dryer.
Thanks for this video. My Whirlpool dryer is almost identical to this one (LER8468PG1). Its been working like a beast for well over 20 years and stopped it just stopped heating. I've never done appliance repair but I've done computer repair and iPhone repair for many years so I'm looking forward to expanding my horizons with this.
I just like to thank you about resetting that switch. Because I replaced mine and it ran for about 10 mins before it blew again. Of course I was pissed. And ordered another. Then I seen your video. But I blame myself because when I order the part it came with the other switch that I checked and thought was good. So I didn't replace it. After watching your video I reset the one switch and replaced the other switch too. Seeing I had it. Well that fixed it. I will remember your trick..Thanks
This video really helped me ..was about to go buy an whole new dryer or sensor kit..but I check the vent duct first like you said n Wala 😳 whole a*s bird net 🪺…cleaned the out and dryer back working n dying like new 🤗..NOTE: NO birds or baby bird eggs was harmed during this event 😂🤞🏾
Thanks! The tip on resetting the thermal cut off fuse worked. I replaced a bad heating element and, afterwards, found that thermal cut fuse tripped. The reset tip worked and the heat is flowing again.
Josh...You saved my butt on a weekend. I reset the high limit switch exactly as you showed...fixed the dryer..THANKS My cause was a 50% lint blockage at the base of the lint filter housing. Have to clean it more often!
Thanks, Josh! I've made ever conceivable repair to my old dryer, but I would have never thought to clean the internal duct if I hadn't seen this. It was half blocked with lint, nails(?), wood chips, and other pieces of junk collected over the last 30-something years. It dries clothes a lot faster now.
Thanks Josh, you saved the day. The thermal fuse was open so I slammed it a few times and fixed. Concerned why it tripped so Amazon has the entire package for $12 so hope it holds while im drying. So again, Thanks Mucho
Great video! Tip, if you are checking for continuity, check ALL possible related parts to this problem. I started with the thermal fuse and it was blown. I decided to keep checking and found that I was not having continuity in the heating element either. I took it out to inspect and found one of the rods had split (cut) which shorted it out. If I had not continued checking, I would have wasted more time and possible additional shipping cost if I had just ordered the thermal fuse only. Bottom line, since you're there, check everything! Good Luck!
Your video was more informative than any of the other videos i previously viewed. This video saved me money and time. Thank you so much for your content. 😊
Great video, was working on the same dryer today. Also had a tripped thermistor. Tenant still has to wait for the ducts to get cleaned but at least now I won't have to make them wait on a part as well. Handy reset trick.
Very nice video. I have similar dryer and it will spin and heat but it sometimes stops mid cycle (regardless of whether it's sensor or timed dry). If I hold the start button after it stops, it will spin, but without heat, so I think the motor is fine, something related to the heating. But then a little later, I can start it again and it will work for again with heat some more.
So im replacing all of these... i have 1 wire thats different on the high limit thermostat tho so im stuck and dint know what to do. Aside from that this has literally been the most helpful video i have come across.
You need a splitter for the bottom terminal of the high limit thermostat...that is where the wire goes. Might be easier to order just the part with it already attached....it's a wire that has to do with the auto dry setting if remember correctly. Here is a link to the correct high limit thermostat that you need a.co/d/gSW8w5I
OMG you are a Life saver with your trick to reset the thermal fuse..dryer heating again, but im pretty sure my duct needs cleaning out toward the roof by the outlet, everything down by the dryer is good. going to et on the roof tomorrow and clean from the top.. THANK YOU
Thanks a lot Josh! I'm getting ready to test out my dryer, cleaned it out good and changed the thermal fuse. Didn't have a multimeter, just changed the TF for good measure. While my dryer was showing lack of heat, there was also a faint gas smell it gave off, only when running. Could this be the igniter not lighting and the gas flow being cut off? There was a fair amount of lint built up, so the airflow was probably a little limited. Tomorrow I'll try this out and see if it's back to normal. Somewhere I read that a gas smell is probably due to limited air flow. Anyway, thanks again! 👍👍
Thank you Man. Very helpful. Appreciate it Bro. I never knew hit that thermistor on the floor trick I've changed these like 10 times.. you saved. There for use . I'm also a technician.. thank you..
Thank you Josh! I very much appreciate you taking the time to post this informative video which helped me out greatly. I bought a multimeter today and was able to diagnose and repair my Whirlpool dryer. My thermistor had tripped and after a few tries I was able to reset it. I removed about five handfuls of caked on lint from the trap, blower and vent which I am assuming was the cause. Hopefully the problem is solved but if not I now have the tools and knowledge to do further repairs if necessary. Liked and subscribed.
thanks my friend, wonderful diagnosis and well explained. i have an old sears Kenmore dryer that looks fairly similar to the one you're working on here. I was hoping that the problem was one of those components you mentioned here, but i don't believe it is. i even tried bypassing the thermal fuse, but nothing...the symptoms my dryer has is; it doesnt seem to get any power anywhere. not even the timer ticks like it used to even with the dryer off. what triggered my problem was a very clogged vent. i wondered why my cloths took so long to dry so i cleaned it out and within minutes, it worked 1000% better. only problem is; when i opened the door to remove the clothes, and put a new load in, it never came back on. was wondering if the quick change in temp from cleaning the vent may have overloaded the circuit somehow. is there any other fuse in these things? the problem really acts like a fuse problem, or else i just fried the circuit. any recommendations would be appreciated. thanks again!
Josh, I am raching out to you as you have the most common sence of all the blogger repair posts I watch. I have a Whirpool commercial dryer, Model CEM2940TQ1. I have a runs but no heat issue. I have checked or replaced at 4 thermostats and the power imput is 240. The unit shows power at the heating element in and out. The element has continuity. All the grounds are tight. What might I be overlooking.
Thanks for pointing out the thermal fuse! It blew. Not sure why it got too hot, nothing else looks bad, the fan wasn't clogged, there was barely anything in the vent and there was good airflow. Also I noticed when you showed the back, there was more wiring to the other fuse on the heating element than mine has (only two wires connected, one to the fuse and the other to another component right below it) not sure if this is a problem or not?
I have a home with a vertical vent going to the roof. I pulled out the lint from the vertical vent and under the compartment underneath the dryer barrel but it still didn't function. I did replace the thermostat and checked the heating coils and they are not broken. I guess I'll replace the other sensors. This dryer is under 2 years old. At least the parts are affordable.
Try running a load without it hooked up to the vent hose and see if it dries and heats correctly. This will tell you if you have a clog further on down the line in your house ventilation. I hook a leaf blower up to mine every three months or so, and blow it out.
Question I have the reverse where I’m setting the timer let’s say 60min but cloth are staying damp but if I set timer for let’s say 45min dries fine suggestions ? Thanks
The test I do to see if I have a faulty timer is to start a time load at the 60 minute mark and with force hold the timer knob to the left and see if your heat stops and then hold it to the right and see if the heat starts or vice versa. If pushing and holding it one direction turns the heat on or off this means the contacts in the timer have worn out. I have a video under my appliance repair playlist that shows how to rebuild these timers.
Thank you for the video. I have 1 question. I have the same dryer. It runs, but no heat. I confirmed the thermal fuses are all good. Except that 3 wire one you replaced at the element. When i check continuity on the top and bottom leads, i get no beep. But if i touch the top prong and the un-used bottom prong on the left, it beeps. Would that be a element or the high limit thermostat?
Appreciate it much for your heart & Helping us Fellow individuals with troubleshooting our electric dryers of Whirlpools. Where do i purchase those 4 at & the drum roller with the rubber? Tyvm
@@joshcobb4100 i did the trick & it heats up my dryer...phew... now kindly simple ask to order the drum rubber wheels from STOP shaking like a nutshell..😮
Thank you Sir! I also cleaned the different exhaust areas and I'm now testing it. Can you tell me what component you tested toward the left bottom? It would have been the one you had trouble pulling off the plastic leads. It has four leads altogether - two are vertically aligned and two are horizontally aligned. The vertical leads had continuity but the two horizontal leads with the plastic covering did not - maybe there shouldn't be. Can you tell what that it is and how to properly test it? Thank you!!
That is a sensor for the auto dry setting...and the top leads are tested with continuity and the horizontal leads are tested with resistance which I always find them to be in the 7.18-ish range.
Do you have any suggestions if I've replaced the thermal fuse, cycling thermostat, thermal cut-off, and high-limit thermostat, but I'm still not getting heat? I even had an electrician out who conformed it's not a fuse in the house's electrical box, nor is there a problem with the dryer outlet or power to the dryer.
Excellent video, but one question: if the high limit therm on the bottom showed continuity, then why was it the problem? Wouldn't you expect to find it dead like the top one?
Awesome video! Thanks for the info. I've replaced 4 sensor parts, cleaned it of any clogs, and replaced the heating element and my heating element still doesn't kick on. Any idea what else i may be missing?
I would have to see it to know….but there is a little box in line that looks like a little relay or fuse but it’s the buzzer. Might be what you are talking about??
@@joshcobb4100 thanks. Huge help. I checked the continuity (audible) on the heating element and that was it. One of the springs was broken. Saved me from buying a new dryer. Thank you for the content Sir.
Thank you so much for this video. I'm having an issue with the same dryer where it runs but does not heat up. I tested the fuses and all of them have continuity. I also checked the timer and it it looks to be working as well. Is there a way to check the heating element itself? I've actually bought a bunch of replacement parts, Element, fuses and motor, I just don't want to waste time replacing something that doesn't need to be replaced. If the drying is spinning and other wise running fine but with no heat is that usually 95% of the time a fuse or element?

I'm getting ready to test out my dryer, cleaned it out good and changed the thermal fuse. Didn't have a multimeter, just changed the TF for good measure. While my dryer was showing lack of heat, there was also a faint gas smell it gave off, only when running. Could this be the igniter not lighting and the gas flow being cut off? There was a fair amount of lint built up, so the airflow was probably a little limited. Tomorrow I'll try this out and see if it's back to normal. Somewhere I read that a gas smell is probably due to limited air flow. Anyway, thanks again! 👍👍
Honestly not sure I don't currently work on gas models. I would just be overly cautious with any gas odors present.

Try running a load without it hooked up to the vent hose and see if it dries and heats correctly. This will tell you if you have a clog further on down the line in your house ventilation. I hook a leaf blower up to mine every three months or so, and blow it out.
Should you be able to see the heating element illuminated if you’re running the dryer with the door open? (Holding door switch)
Thank you
I've smacked a starter motor, a squirrel cage motor, and now can add this to things I can tap to fix it lol
Lot of things in this world today could use the good ol smack to fix method 😜
Thank you very much for the video my friend...... tks to you I am not sleeping on the sofa tonight
Dude you are awesome thank you for sharing your knowledge .
Question I have the reverse where I’m setting the timer let’s say 60min but cloth are staying damp but if I set timer for let’s say 45min dries fine suggestions ? Thanks
Sounds like a contact issue within the timer itself.
@@joshcobb4100 is there a way to confirm it is the timer ?
The test I do to see if I have a faulty timer is to start a time load at the 60 minute mark and with force hold the timer knob to the left and see if your heat stops and then hold it to the right and see if the heat starts or vice versa. If pushing and holding it one direction turns the heat on or off this means the contacts in the timer have worn out. I have a video under my appliance repair playlist that shows how to rebuild these timers.
@@joshcobb4100 ok much appreciated
Tyvm
Amazon or eBay my friend!
Thumbs 👍 up man. Great tutorial.
Very helpful! Thanks!
You are welcome! Glad it helped!
Thanks for the lesson.
Throwing it on the ground worked for me thanks man
Great video! Thorough. Thank you
Good video! Hope to get on it later today. Need a voltmeter first.
Harbor freight has them cheap, so does Walmart.
Outstanding video! Thank you! New subscriber after this!
Awesome video! Thanks for the info. I've replaced 4 sensor parts, cleaned it of any clogs, and replaced the heating element and my heating element still doesn't kick on. Any idea what else i may be missing?
Timer. Try forcing the timer knob to the left when running and see if the heat kicks on.
@@joshcobb4100my dryer just works on high heat. And it stops working when i start from 30 minutes (low heat)
What do you call the gray fuse on temp selector black wire? And should it have conductivity?
I would have to see it to know….but there is a little box in line that looks like a little relay or fuse but it’s the buzzer. Might be what you are talking about??
Great tutorial. Appreciateit.
Thanks, works for mine,
I subscribed your channel dear thanks God bless you brother ❤
Thank you Sir. Is there any reason why you didn’t check the continuity on the heating element
I probably did it off camera. You totally can tho, should measure about 9.5 - 10.5
@@joshcobb4100 thanks. Huge help. I checked the continuity (audible) on the heating element and that was it. One of the springs was broken. Saved me from buying a new dryer. Thank you for the content Sir.
Ty good informative video
Thank you dad 😂
You're welcome, son!
Great job
Thanks!
Great information overall but you forgot to mention to remove the lint trap from the top before removing the rear duct.
Oh…and don’t forget to remove the lint trap before removing the duct 😉
Everyone knows how to do that 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
I didn’t
Thank you so much for this video. I'm having an issue with the same dryer where it runs but does not heat up. I tested the fuses and all of them have continuity. I also checked the timer and it it looks to be working as well. Is there a way to check the heating element itself? I've actually bought a bunch of replacement parts, Element, fuses and motor, I just don't want to waste time replacing something that doesn't need to be replaced. If the drying is spinning and other wise running fine but with no heat is that usually 95% of the time a fuse or element?
Great video !!
Thanks for taking the time and sharing, was able to salvage the thermoster.
Sweet!!
You are a good man!
