Will you be preordering the Neo Geo MVSX? Do you think there will be another machine or will games be added via an online store or even physical media?
I’ll most likely be getting one, but I am hoping hacking is in the future of this like the stick pro 😈
No.
I'd be surprised if it takes more than a week to hack this
Fair enough, would you get an original AES?
You wish!!! I'd rather go all the way and emulate properly, buying an arcade monitor with a cabinet, getting a graphics card for the proper Hz output, and building a desktop with MAME. But yeah, I know, that's also expensive. I'd never forgive SNK for this.
So glad there's loud music playing at all times while you're talking, not annoying at all.
Ya I really screwed the levels on this one. Thank God this is not my day job.
Sega head has sent me your way looking forward to watching your content mate, enjoyed your Astro city video I’m so excited for that being a Sega nut and I’m also looking forward to the MVS X I’m sure I will be preordering both hahahah
I’m also chasing the Mega Drive full pal set (my all time favourite console) I completed the Dreamcast set finally last year.
Great stuff mate subbed 🍺
That's awesome to hear your also going for a full collection. How many are you on at the moment, are you collecting the cover variants like the Classics from Sega and EA. I'm also starting to collect the indie titles like Xenocrisis and Tanglewood.
How does it not come with Neo Turf Masters though? I mean that is easily one of the greatest Neo Geo games and certainly better than the Golf game they have included.
I would assume that the middle port is USB. The Arcade Stick had that too so I would assume for sure that the middle port is USB for upgrading firmware and maybe adding extra games.
I cannot see them making another system with a bunch more games on it as they have already blown there load with this release by including practically every game people would actually want with only a few missing like Neo Turf Masters, Twinkle Star Sprites and Neo Geo 98 etc. None of those are system sellers so I think any new games will definitely be added via USB.
That's a great point. The USB port would absolutely make sense. The unit will be hacked in the first week and we will see every game with a Neo Geo logo on it😁👍
Neo turf masters is copyrighted and snk does not own the rights to the name
@@JeffYPbPr Actually they do. Nasca Corporation who made the game, also made Metal Slug 1, before the series and the company were brought out by SNK. Also Neo Turf Masters was one of the 16 games featured on the SNK Arcade Classics Vol.1 that was released several years ago on the PS2, PSP and Wii. They do own Neo Turf Masters, it's just that for some reason they haven't gotten around to including it yet, like they have with several other games that SNK own. The only 2 titles that SNK developed that will have an issue to put onto future systems (unless they sort the copyrights out) would be Eightman (an early beat em up based on a manga character) and SVC SNK Vs. Capcom (for obvious reasons).
Blaze Vincent you're into Neo Geo too?
great analysis...more thorough information provided compared to most covering this...subbed.
Thanks and welcome to the community. Do you think you will pick up and MVSX?
@@RetroGamerBoy I don't have the space now, but it would definitely be at top of list of cabs for me if I'm able to recuperate space... I have an A1UP I have 2 finish modding as well. I do love this potential competition & I think A1UP should be running scared now.
Coming from a guy who owns an MVS motherboard with a 161 in 1 cartridge, an AES, a MAME PC, Raspberry Pi, Pandoras Box 6, and numerous console ports of Neo Geo games, I am still interested in one purely for the aesthetics. I have numerous ways to emulate Neo Geo games as well as real hardware, but this cabinet looks like an amazing showpiece for my room. Even if the game selection isn't the greatest out of the box, I can almost GUARANTEE this thing will be hacked at some point.
I'm the same, I have no where near the collection you have but I'm able to play most games. But having a replica Big Red cab in my room would be awesome.
Great, professionally done video. U deserve more subscribers, my man. Won't buy this without awesome sports games (Windjammers, Baseball Stars 2, Super Baseball 2020).
The unit will be hacked within a week and then you can have all games on it😁
@@RetroGamerBoy True, true haha. I do wish they went w the 4 button layout. After the hack, it could have been a great dedicated Neo Geo cab. I was hoping for that w Arcade 1up.
Lookin smooth my man!
Thanks dude.
You really made a great observation there with the whole volume 1 spot. I personally would rather have the options to add additional content to the MVS X through USB or other option than have to purchase another $500 arcade cabinet. I think this is the more likely scenario, however. But great video, cheers and sub'd.
A couple of people have pointed out that the 3rd port on the back could be a USB port. If it is I think that this allow you to connect and play the Arcade pro stick and games. If this is the case that means it's potentially possible to add games or run them from a stick. That would be cool.
This I'll pre-order.
Sweet. Will you have it as a barcade or will you add the stand as well?
Oh boy! OK first of all, no this whole series of minis is not called the X series. The X only applied to the Tommo produced Neo Geo X handheld where only the docking station resembled the AES, not the handheld itself. The Mini arcade units didn't have micro switches on them, probably due to keeping the production cost low, having them meant higher prices, but I know SNK is all ready expensive as it is. No this tabletop or barcade machine will not support cartridges, it may support some kind of USB interface like BlazeV mentioned which would make sense, but that would probably be it. Maybe they might produce more, but it depends on the sales of this thing, which by the way won't be available in Europe straight away, only in North America. It will probably become available in other territories either by he end of the year or early next year perhaps? The MVSX isn't really a 'min' console either, it's not as big as an actual MVS cabinet, but it is slightly smaller. But really it should not be called a 'mini' by any stretch of the imagination. The extra buttons on each side are just there for some reason, all Neo Geo games only use 4 buttons or less. There are no games on the system that utilise more then 4 buttons or less. It's like the arcade stick pro that has 8 buttons for whatever reason, rather then just 4, though that's most likely in case you want to remap certain buttons, maybe it will be a similar thing with this machine, who knows? Oh and you didn't mention that it supports both the MVS and AES versions of games and that Art of Fighting 2 is missing. Really could have just done with doing a bit more research here. Also you mispronounced Kazuna Encounter and said 'Last Battle' and not 'Last Blade'.
Some of the things you call out here are just questions he's asked. And others are just personal views he's expressed. Most videos on this have just been looking at the website, this clearly has a huge amount of work gone into it. And there are some interesting talking points in there like the additional port on the back, and the fact that there is a game collection with v1. They may mean nothing but he's clearly trying to engage with people. So I'm not sure what you are trying to say with your comment? Do you think he's a hack or a faker?
I'm sorry you did not enjoy the vid. I try to offer more than just the information on the website. Things like the 1:1 graphic so that people can get a sense of the size of the cab. I took all the visuals of the cab, which were low res and redrew them to give people a better view of the cab. This included the options menu where all but one of the options were enhanced for viewers including the AES and MVS mode. With regards to the micro switches on the mini, that's just a difference of opinion. I like a more authentic experience and to be honest this would only have added 30¢ to the over all manufacturing bomb and probably cheaper than that as they were buying in quantity. I would have been happy paying the extra $5 that would have added to the final price. But I respect your views and appreciate that you've taken the time to share them with the rest of the community. I think it's great to have debate around a hobby that we are passionate about.
😁👍
C'est commandé 😉👌✌️
Thank you 🤘😝🤘
What’s that thing on top of your mame arcade screen? Looks like a camera.
It's a camera. I use it for the live stream we do every Wednesday at 9pm (UK) Sega Head and I play a game on my Arcade machine each week. You should drop by 😁👍
The mystery port on the back is a USB port for upgrading the firmware and adding more games. The coin slots are dummies so you can't actually do anything with it.
Yup I saw that. Someone in the community named it the hack port 😅 I'm sure Mame will be running on it soon.
It took me 7 minutes to realize you did not physically have the cabinet. LOL
😅 ya just Photoshop and editing skills. Also my custom cab is a similar colour.
@@RetroGamerBoy That's what got me.
This thing looks great, but I don't think I'll be ordering it. I love my ATgames legends ultimate arcade and my Mame can gets the job done.
You are already living the dream Chris.
I follow loads of gaming news etc but somehow I’d never heard of this 🤷♂️
Certainly sounds interesting 👍🏻
Do you have space in your rooms for these mini cabs?
@@RetroGamerBoy I could find space for a couple but I'm holding out for a Candy Cab... 2 player, 6 button.... Would love one of those 👍
That would be stunning!!!
@@RetroGamerBoy I know mate.... Maybe one day 🤷♂️
I would love one of those. I'm going to have to wait until the kids move out so that I can take up more of the house.
Any news on whether this is coming to the UK? Mind you, got no room for a cab 😔
I think it is. The web side has the the UK and Europe down. I know Amazon have this exclusively in North America. I guess in Europe it's a little more complex to sort out all the individual distributors.
What would the two extra face buttons be for?
I think it's so you and set your own button config. It's also going to be useful for when it gets hacked and games like Street Fighter are on the machine. They may also act as credit buttons.
I'd pre-order straight away but from what I've heard it's only available in America and shipping would double the price to the UK.
The website has Europe down with its own distribution. I bet it will be an Amazon deal, which is hard to setup I'm Europe given all the different stores you need to do this for.
The would be amazing! What games would you like to see on that?
What he says.😁
Hi! my dream is to become a game developer... how did you start? Do you have any tips? Awesome game room btw =D
I started as an artist in the games industry and worked my through to being an XBox Studio Director, PlayStation Dev Director, and a 2K head of Production and in that time I've hired hundreds of people new to the industry. The most common factor for all these people is that they have specialized in a single area. Art, engineering, writing, design, audio etc. But you can take on thousands of roles in the industry that are outside the core Dev team. If you have an idea of what you would like to do we can focus on what you need to do for that area.
@@RetroGamerBoy I'm at university now, taking computer engineering, so I would like to follow the programming area!
👍🏻👍🏻
Would you get one?
@@RetroGamerBoy Absolutely, I always wanted a Neo Geo growing up but they were/are so expensive!
I'm a collector, I have Atari-PS4...and the closest I have, to a Neo Geo is the Pandora Box 11+ I got a few months ago... again though, I'm definitely going to buy one of these!
That's awesome! I had an AES but stupidly sold it when I did not know better. I need to get one of those back in my collection.
I wonder if you can add more Neo Geo games
I 100% bet this gets hacked so that you can :)
Ordered mine weeks ago
Sweet. Are you in the U.S?
Yeah STL
Nice.
Retro Gamer Boy yeah they originally charged me $30 for shipping but people complained and they refunded the shipping to everyone.
What if the coin slot is actually an sd card slot for upgrades
That would be awesome!! What a great idea.
Where can I cop the shirt?
The Dev team sent it to me 😁👍 I'm not sure if you can buy them via their website. They are called Bitmap Bureau.
Realistically itll be a modified interface similar to the arcade stick pro. It will have USB support (that's probably what it is) to add additional games. The 6 button layout is simply this...cost...these are rebranded/reshelled Chinese bartops made and sold by the unico's parent company on ali express using clone sanwa buttons and sticks. That's not saying it's bad but this will be a one off product for snk and will be limited in nature with additional functionality.
That's very interesting. I'm guessing the the price is tied into the brand rather than any special tooling or manufacturing costs.
Doesn't look like enough room on the control panel to rest your wrist while playing. Anything smaller than what Arcade1Up offer is simply too small imo. Other than that it looks grear. I'm in the market for a multicad. Waiting on the holiday season and reviews of the likes of iiarcades offering etc. Love the idea of being able to add games as you go. The Atgames Legends is cool but gonna go a different route.
Of course the other route you could take is to have a custom one built. It's probably an extra 200 but you could get something closer to the original.
@@RetroGamerBoy True. I'm gonna wait things out n see.
Retro Gamer Boy hmmm maybe a custom cabinet with a MiSTer running neo geo only !! 🤓😈😈
Who else here is an apartment dweller who has run out of space while converting over their place to a home arcade lol
I think their decision to go with the barcade design will help with people who have less space. My wife won't let me have any more space for my games so having this option makes it more accessible for me.
No Art of Fighting 2? And apparently, all because of a flag on takumas stage? There is no Neo Geo without AOF2.
Really? That's interesting.
Looks great, but I wish they would also offer full size versions of these machines for a higher price. I'd happily pay 30% more for a full size one.
You can get one custom built for around 800.
@@RetroGamerBoy Excellent, I might just do that. Thanks for letting me know.
Savage Reign and Kizuna Encounter.
You know it will be hacked within a week😅 and then you can have everything.
I really really want to invest in an arcade of some sort, but I just don't have the space 😢
God forbid I sell my physical collection to make the space 😱
Never do that😂 it is a barcade though so it's more adaptive than our mini arcades.
@@RetroGamerBoy haha NEVER!!!
Yeah bartops are really tempting 🤔
Damn. I'd love one of these ... but getting one in south america will probably be on a "sell a kidney" levels of expensive.
😂 It's that hard. You should open up a distribution company then you get get the lastest gear and make a little money 😁
You have two kidneys cheapskate
Hopefully you are not a sheep who needs to hear either "yes it's worth it" or "no it's not worth it". Personally i would absolutely buy it if idid not already have a "big red". The one pcb i have is not kind to the 161 in 1 and some of the games i want is kinda expensive, i got about 30 mvs cartridges. My plan is to put the pcb i have that is more "161 in 1" friendly in a a1up and use that one as a back up until i have all the original carts i want.
That's an awesome collection to have. Expensive but awesome. I would love to have something like that. I think I'm going to go down the AES route for original Neo Geo hardware. I have nowhere to put a big red😅
@@RetroGamerBoy yeah im lucky i where able to get my collection (and at bargain prices), still a lot i want. Just got me a space invaders a1up to mod into a neo geo, cant wait
Id prefer a AES Classic mini
We kinda got one with the Neo Geo X. They got close with the device but the emulation is terrible and there was not upscaling or line doubling that would have give a pixel perfect image.
Sega head sent me here that pervert was playing Waifu uncovered 🤣
Dear God, he told me about that game in our last live stream. I'm glad you dropped by.
Looks great, but it's too expensive for an emulation machine.
I'll stick with emulation on my cellphone and pc
It is pricey, but then I think the Neo Geo brand is like apple in that regard. The product is no where near that expensive to manufacture but they live off of the peacocking that people desire.
I get why a die hard SNK collector would want this, but for gamers in general there's no bang for the buck value here at all. Spending this kind of cash to play KOF97 is just dumb. How many times are they going to keep selling the same game collection in more and more expensive cabinets? No premium buttons or sticks? Only 50 games that have been standard for years on every retro portable, Pandora's Box and emulator box out there? For 500 bucks? Right when PS5 is about to launch for the same price? Hell. No. Winner of the next $500 I spend on gaming is PS5 by a mile. A few years ago I picked up the Pandora's Box 5 2 player Wolverine deluxe edition with the 4 color lighted 8 button layout on both sides. Looks amazing, plays amazing, came with 960 games including every Neo Geo game in this cabinet plus many more classic SNK titles and it was a great value at less than half the price of this cabinet. Half of these games are just the same fighting game rehashed over and over, and after playing next gen fighters like Tekken 7, Mortal Kombat 11, Guilty Gear or Dragon Ball Fighter Z, stuff like King of Fighters just looks and plays clunky and slow by comparison.
I think for collectors it's the authenticity they will be buying into. Also anything Neo Geo gets crazy expensive fast. The Neo Geo X is double and triple it's original price and that is a bad emulation console😅
@@RetroGamerBoy It's gone up mostly because it failed and had it's production stopped suddenly. I dont think the neo geo mini will go up much since they are pumping those out like crazy
@@RetroGamerBoy Thanks for the reply! Yeah, that's why I made sure my first sentence was that I get why collectors are digging this.
For some reason RUclips held this comment for review🤪
That's true, but Neo Geo is synonymous with high prices.
Is This coming from China?
I think it's only for North America and Europe. But I would be surprised if it did not, it was probably manufactured in China.
All i give a shit about is if they sell the shells. I want to run Street Fighter Alpha 2 and 3 and turbo. and mod the stick to sanwa buttons and sticks. i also care out headphone out, if the screen takes hdmi etc. Just think.. you could stick a laptop behind it and play anything!
It's probably just a retro pie in there or an FPGA. Some will have it hacked within weeks.
Saw tons of these Chinese bar tops at the SNK stand at e3 2006. Really not very good
Really? What was the problem with them. Is it build quality?
Whilst I know that neo geo have an awesome game library and there is definitely a market for this, I can’t help just thinking it’s another emulation machine like all the rest...great for keeping these retro games relevant but just not for me
It's potentially just a retro pie in a bartop shell.
No lighted marquee for $500... i think I'm gonna pass
I hadn't noticed that. Wow, that is a big mis if they don't include this.
In the latest screens they confirm that the Marquee does infact light up 👍
Tried the 1up sf2 cab in a Smyths Toys shop and it was awful!!
Why was it so bad? Was it the emulation?
If I had money instead of a wife I’d buy this.
😂 Snap for nearly everything I want to buy.
In mother Russia, if one want NeoGeo, we go get Super Nintendo, and just.....pretend....
😂 I'm sorry to here that. Is there no chance to import one or is that stupidly expensive.
@@RetroGamerBoy if one would import neo-geo to mother Russia, our economy will collapse......
@@DarthcrackbabY 😂 oh dear. Emulation it is then.
As soon as I started the video I was about click off because I thought it was gonna be in Chinese. 😂
😅 thank God you didn't. Are you looking to pick up an MVSX?
Retro Gamer Boy No I just love looking at retro gaming tech specifically related to arcades. 😁
Cool. There a nice little industry growing up around retro gaming now.
Not worth it, i have Neo Geo emulator and Mame
I think this will be for diehard collectors, physical collectors, and people who have not played the MVS but have a shed load of cash to burn.
They keep making the same old games over and over again snk you won’t get my money.
Now if you remastered these games to fix new tv 16:9 displays I would be interested.
I already have the full NeoGeo library sorry.
So for me I give this unit a big yawn 🥱.
It's definitely a nostalgia machine, but if you have that all ready I can see why it would not interest you.
Can't please everyone
Its crap, No Windjammers or Neo turf masters :(
I think licencing stops these games from being added. Although the USB on the back is supposed to be for adding new games and cab updates, so it will be hacked in weeks.
