Ron, didn't you get a Neo•Geo X (AES mini)? This was before even Nintendo, Sega, TG16, OE PSX minis were released. I loved the form factor of those, and after the official fix, it outputted pretty decent quality video. Though still 480p, like this.
@@matthenzel8930 yes I had one day 1, it had messed up audio but overall it seemed cool. But the problem I had was I went through 3 or 4 of them before I gave up. One the battery blew up in the handheld, a couple others just stopped working.

How did this company think it was ok to backorder preordered units and instead send them to retail. That is insulting to the people like us who preordered it. Also, this was a blatant cash grab that was misrepresented. How can they call this an MVS Mini when it only contains the AES Roms? I only want it as a keepsake since I have nostalgia for playing four slot “Big Red” cabs back in the early 90s. I’m going to find someone who can make me custom labels to add to the sides of this. I don’t like their branding and they don’t deserve to be advertised.
Christmas edition while not the most esthetically pleasing color scheme has my favorite games selection of them all but in all honesty like many others we really want an AES mini

At least they have blood on this one. That is an improvement from the original. Still has the blurry image on the hdmi out.

Looks like they lie about this product, if it advertised as an MVS Mini, then we should expect the MVS version of the game, not the AES version. This Unico company screw up again.
I already went down the Neo Geo Mini rabbit hole. Not going to pay more for the same games.

The thing is Unico has done a great little home arcade version in the MVSX. Why are they still churning out these crummy desktop things? All these cheap variants are making the SNK brand look like some dollar store brand.
Gotta admit it was super satisfying to hear you rip Unico a new one lol.
I think the best one so far was the SNK Pro Stick. It doesn't have a screen, but it can be used as a console by itself or it can be used as a controller for other games. This one is basically good as a Christmas gift for a kid, though I like mine (the older "international version") even though I have a lot of better ways to play these (like my Nintendo Switch, for example).
An AES mini would’ve made sense. MVS variants is too many. Hell, give us the option to play the home or arcade versions and fix the HDMI output plus the SD Card slot.
Unico should’ve added select 3rd party Neo Geo titles to the mix such Windjammers, Street Hoop, Aero Fighters 2 and 3, Spin Master
They need to do a mini Hyper Neo Geo 64 unit, or include Neo Geo Pocket games, or add the English translated SS PPG or vary the line-up with Neo Drift Out, Windjammers, Street Hoop, SVC Chaos. Really anything but just putting the same product out again and again....
Any reason why Unico and SNK not including Art of Fighting 2 and Neo Turf Masters?
Not sure. Neo Turf Masters should’ve been there along with Prehistoric Isle 2, Shock Troopers 1 and 2 and Pleasure Goal
AOF2 is brutally difficult. That's it and that's why. Which is not a good reason to skip it.
is not stupid and lazy, this is perfect for the company, the product will sell no matter what its flaws are.

Seeing the review I just had to dig up my NeoGeo mini International. This is that exact same thing o_o it's just a different color. So this is sort of a reissue? I think even the games are the same.

The even got rid of the light up joystick.Maybe you can use your pull and mention to them of making a mini Neo Geo system with a open usb port for adding our own stuff
I usually play in AES mode, but it 100% should give you the option.
biggest offense of all that products is that NOONE has Super Doge Ball on them.... one of the best games ever on MVS
I love my MVSX which i bought damged (50 Bucks) and hardmodded it. But in original not even the MVSX was good.
You mentioned dipswitch settings in the arcade version. What options do you unlock with those? Ive never heard of this. Great video as always :)

Definitely misleading marketing on the games being home ports of the games rather the mvs ports from the arcade as advertised.
The really lame and lazy thing is that NEO GEO AES and MVS roms are the same.. there are no different versions of the game rom for home console and arcade... Its just a simple BIOS/hardware thing for how the game behaves. So for a emulation device like this all it takes is checking off a single option within the emulator to run it as one or the other. So from the start it should have been an option with these things.. no extra space needed since no extra game versions would be needed...

But the NeoGeo CD from 8BitDo is the best controller ever made, I bought 3 just for me. Because I don't wanna live without them... ever.

@@jonniefast But the real hardware is no longer sold or even ussable without heavy modifications. FPGA and emulators are all USB and I can play with that thing on my Switch (with the red dongle). In an ideal world, they would do both.

Yeah will say again. the old 720 p tvs I got at good will display them properly, when you get new tvs that smoothing crap happens. Dont know why it does that on these things.
I'm pretty sure a AES mini will be out for the 35th anniversary next. I will buy an AES mini if they add the 3rd party titles like Waku Waku 7, Breakers, and Rage of Dragons.

I would recommended get the other Neo Geo games on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PS Consoles, and/or Steam for supporting SNK while having the Neo Geo Mini included to anyone.

I don’t mind the unico logo since my mvsx has that logo and I’ve gotten used to it. On the other hand I do mind the terrible hdmi out.
You can use a portable battery with it and make it portable

I wish this was twice as big and used better parts. Not exactly a bartop it’s probably just my personal preference…
It is one of the better looking in my opinion.. minus the unico logo. And yeah if it was double the size i think thatd be cool. But for whatever reason this one seems the cheapest plastic wise and production wise. All straight edges feel sharp, things seem a little off. The other Neo Geo minis seem like higher quality material for the body.. its kind of weird.. even the box it comes in seems cheaper.
I think they only call this "MVS" as in the outer shell of it resembling an MVS machine but not the actual games
Regardless it is lame, these games can all be ran as home console or arcade versions since there are no different rom versions for each type. So just laziness not putting in a AES/MVS option.
I still like the SamSho ones the best followed by the Japanese one.
Also can we please get a NeoGeo Console Mini Console because I'll leave that hooked up and play it daily. Just put all the games on all the Arcade Minis AND PROFIT!

I have a problem performing half circle and quarter circle fighting game moves with the 8bit-do NG controller ...although I haven't used it with my mvs minis yet only on pc emulators..

Until people stop buying these things, they are still going to be made. That Unico is probably no better than some of those Chinese no-name companies making all the knock off super consoles powered by knock off microcontrollers. Just as an FYI, the Neo Geo arcade stick console can still be purchased for $110 and you can put the entire library onto it and do whatever settings you want.
Thanks for the review! They shoot their own foot with this Unico logo... So ugly and big and EVERYWHERE... I'm collector and I don't like that at all. And the system and games are the same, so why I would buy this when I can play with better visuals on a free emulator (or the arcade stick pro) ? But these 8bitdo controllers are beautifull, I bought 1 classic black to play and all 4 characters limited for my collection. It's great on display ;)
Do these companies watch review videos? Why not see that as free consulting? All these products should get a little better with each revision and they just refuse to improve.

I liked the Neo-Geo Mini, don't get me wrong. But there was a lot about the system that Unico could have fixed, and from all appearances it seems they didn't even bother. That HDMI output begged to be improved from day one, and Unico didn't even do THAT. Ugh. Oh well, back to my $30 system with the Hylo hack!

Yeah but to do that they had to shrink the buttons anymore. There just aren't that many space in that little cabinet to include 6 buttons.

The games actually would be able to run as arcade if they have the correct bios.

People say mister is the be all and all. I dont but it. Lots of things dont work out of the box let alone 100 percent.
Not to mention you have to spend a great deal of money all at once, just to get going.
Emulation on your phone or PC or raspberry pi or steamdeck is free, no fuss, no spending thousands of dollars with mister and all of its add ons.
MiSter has always been a bit pricey... ... but with price hikes on the de10 nano and other components its definitely not an option for plenty of people... Emulation on any device you currently got is always a good choice to just play some games.

They couldn't at least make it as big as the Astro or Egret II.
It's a nice unit but I'm pretty certain I have the entire NA Neo Geo library on my Analogue Pocket. Pressing A B and C together accesses the bios where you can select the game region and change between console or arcade versions. When I bought my pocket last year I had no idea it would be the best way to play Neo Geo games. The people that designed the cores and updaters for the system deserve all the credit.

Why can't they do an actual mini consoles without the screen like the NES, SNES, and Genesis Mini? I have the actual Unico MVS Arcade machine that I paid $575 with free shipping. So I guess that was worth it. I'll pass on this mini console, unless they make an actual mini console that mimics the actual look of the home console.
at least they should have increased screen size to at least 4"..3.5" is just too small when comparing to Taito Egret 2 or Sega Astro City. The system doesn't even look anything like from the SNK arcade..even the joystick itself too. The entire thing is a let down. the sound sounds pretty bad there.
Anybody find a way to remove the unico logo without damaging the plastic? Also need a custom clean sticker ^^
I bought the neogeo arcade stick which I enjoy. I am not that interested in the neogeo mini. It also skipped AOF2 :/

I hate those mini's. They feel like a cheap toy, should be around $35 - or less - the screen so small you can hardly tell what's going on.. looks nice but thats about it.

I have just about all of these and 3 ASPs, hell even all of the 8BitDo controllers but I'm not buying this 🤦🏻♀️ I mean WTF??? One of my Neo Geo mini consoles is modded with every MVS game and a new screen and this is just a waste, unless you want to show off that you have a super cool "Unico" one!!!! 😃

It’s funny how’s the Neo Geo collectibles can’t ever get it right. There is a good option for playing Neo Geo at home though, that’s very cheap and has crisp HDMI output, allows you to play every game in the library, and use any USB controller you want. It’s called “any crappy old laptop or tablet you can find”, and it works great.
yeah... it sucks though because sure we can play Neo Geo on any cheap device... older $30 raspberry pi's have no issue running Neo Geo... but a lot of people would like something official thats done well.. I like having official devices that emulate retro games.. like the NES/SNEs/Turbografx mini's... but these fools at Unico don't give a crap and just keep pumping out stuff that Neo Geo fans find insulting lol.
