One further note that I'm sure you know, but that might not be obvious to people: The ICC doesn't slow down or stop the car if you're heading towards a stopped or very slow vehicle or other stationary object (presumably to avoid braking un-necessarily in cases of false positives at highway speeds) so if you aren't following another vehicle, and you're heading towards a traffic jam, construction, a toll gate, or a mattress or something that's fallen off a truck, you'll have to slow down or stop yourself. Of course, if you are following another vehicle which slows down gradually enough, within the ICC's 40% of max total braking power limit, then the ICC will take care of it. Thanks again for making my wait for my Leaf more enjoyable.

ICC will slow down you completely when approaching stopped traffic. As a Leaf owner who just drove through 4 countries in Europe I can confirm that this is the case. How dumb do the engineer's have to be for this not to be the case? On one occasion I approached completely stopped traffic doing over 120 kilometres an hour. On the dash the ICC had no car locked on in the system. Far ahead was stationary traffic. I was ready to hit the breakes. At around 300 metres the lidar picked up the stopped car in front and slowly started to slow down my car until coming to a complete stop. This has been my experience on many occasions. I could not live without ProPilot! What a great system and makes my life so much more relaxed. Using PP is a Zen moment.
I'm just going for a Tekna with Propilot in the UK. I'm upgrading from an N-Connecta. The adaptive cruise control and lane departure braking assist functions are available on the N-Connecta without Propilot, so I would argue that they are not Propilot. Propilot is an extension that adds steering assist which I have not yet experienced. I never really found lane departure braking assist useful, though; it did the job, but if I was changing lanes without indicating (in the UK it is only necessary to indicate if the indication would assist someone), it would often trigger, and I ended up never using that particular feature. I did very much like the adaptive cruise control, though; I still had to keep an eye on it, though, and sometimes take control to avoid a situation I could see coming up. I had lost track of which models have this self driving type feature. Pity Nissan didn’t go for the over the air upgrade method. Would be awesome to see this tech upgrade as the software improves.

Thanks. Those lane departures will be an issue in Australia too. When merging into a freeway we have dash lines all the way until 2 lanes have merged. The departure lane needs to have the same fully extended dashed line so there is a default lane to follow unless we indicate to cross the dash line and depart the freeway. Shouldn’t be too hard to get our state and federal bodies to mark our roads with a little common sense. Wait right here, I’ll be back when ours in Australia are done.
Another excellent video. Helpful exclamation in video. I like the idea of these driver systems and their potential for preventing or at least mitigating car accidents. However it is becoming clear that the transition to more driver assistance is going to be tricky. The systems from Nissan and Tesla so far remind me a little bit of various commercials we see in the United States from drug companies where, after they read off the list of potential side effects, one wonders what the value proposition is. It's my understanding that the Nissan propilot adds about $2,500 to the cost of the leaf and the Tesla so-called autopilot system adds $5,000 to the price of the car. I know different people will see it differently but for me, I'm not sure the value proposition at this point, is truly worth it. Maybe motor vehicle liability insurance companies will soon begin to offer discounts to offset much of the cost of the driver assistance options. But it is going to be awhile before they accumulate the data that will be necessary to justify the discount. These options could become standard over time due to regulatory measures and or meetings the competition, much like airbags and abs systems
Thanks Chaz for the feedback. I agree that the value prop for some of these systems is weaker than it could be. I don't really find myself using Lane Assist very often, but I do use the ACC all the time mainly on the highways and sometimes on more quicker city parkways. I only had basic Cruise Control before, which I always used on highway longer drives. However with ACC, I can use it on city streets since it will bring you to a stop and go again if within a short time (3 seconds). Otherwise, you can push a button and it will start going again. Sometimes this is handy but you still need to pay attention and be ready to take over.
Kenneth Bokor Glad the acc is proving useful for you. I think I would like it too. It is not clear to me that it is available for a Nissan Leaf that doesn't have the pro pilot package.
I turn off the lane assist, since it's more nerve racking trying to guess when it might fail than to just steer myself. I do like the auto slow/stop with the car in front of you, especially in heavy traffic with lots of stop and go's.
Coraga 1 - I mean you have to look and focus on the needle and still not get a specific reading. To me it is a usability issue. It is easier to just glance at a digital readout. It also does a disservice to the design since it looks like a dash style from the 80/90's.
There is a screen on the left side choice you can use that displays the speed in digital format. Along with compass and radio/audio inputs/stations. I change the left screen around once in a while to be different. For this vid, I left it on the screen shown so it was easier to see the car accelerating and braking (regen) via this gauge cluster.
It is an odd design decision. I agree - not even an LCD image of a speedo. But you can get a digital speedometer as well available on one of the driving screens.
Hi, with PP engaged, I did have faith, but was ready to stomp on the pedal if I had to. I no longer have the Leaf, as I changed to a Tesla Model 3 in the fall of 2020. I simply needed more range as I do a lot of driving as I am in sales and cover a large Ontario territory. Model 3 LR has high range and here in Southern Ontario, Supercharging is all over the place.
I thought about that...with 60kw batteries, you'll need longer pitstops, but less frequent. I think 40kw is the right balance of time and frequency for stops on long trips.
yes, they do and if you stop (which I did not show but PP's ICC will bring you to a stop by itself too based on the car infront of you stopping), the brake lights remain on as in e-pedal mode, the car will hold a stop by itself (no need to touch the brake pedal). The brake lights will come on if the slowing force is 0.2g or greater. I believe this is something Tesla's do not have, that I have witnessed anyway. The brake lights only come on close to a final stop in Telsa, if you are not touching the brake yourself.
Qopel hello it works well. The indicators light up if system is on. If I activate turn signals to change lanes and a vehicle is in blind spot range, system will beep.

Spent $32k on a Nissan with ProPilot, it does NOT work on any lane of the Annapolis Bay Bridge which is 5 miles. Eastern or Western span, nada. Nissan Fail! Lame.
