You’re the first person I’ve seen point out that “put me on” can mean to deceive!! I absolutely think that was a triple entendre. I’ve always thought there was a deep connection between folklore and her first album/memories from that time, so I think you’re spot on there.

Yes, you MUST listen to all 3 songs. Long Pond videos are best but you might not be able to access them where you are.
You should see the videos for Cardigan and Willow. There are “invisible strings” that tie those together. And Invisible Strings is another incredible song.

@@SaeedReacts. Cardigan is from Betty's POV. Betty is from Jame's POV, and August is from Augustine's POV. But they're all talking about the same events from their points of view, so you only get the full story by listening to all three.

I think it’s helpful to note that Cardigan is not only from Betty’s POV, but it’s 20+ years later. She’s a full grown adult singing this, but James and August are both 17 in their POVs.

      News flash:
      Betty = Taylor = Wendy
The One = Matty = Peter
This is the hedge maze she gets lost in “Guilty as Sin” 😊 🔥
In “Peter” she finally turns out the light…
This is herself looking back on her “youth” (the sandlot, the swings, favorite toys, you were 25, crashed into you like so many wrecks do…), the fictional construct of Betty/James or Peter/Wendy was because she was in the “secret garden in her mind”, the “hedge maze” she got lost in, she was still with Joe so she couldn’t admit it was true.
“Put me on and said I was your favorite” = “favorite toys” (just say when I’ll play again) … Cardigan “under someone’s bed” = “back on my shelf”

Folklore is one of the best albums of all time in my opinion. The concept, lyrics and stories are insane. Saw someone mention the trilogy so here is some more info:
Three songs are about a teenage love triangle (made up, using blake lively and ryan reynolds kids names)
-cardigan: From the POV of the girl Betty looking back as an adult at her teenage love.
-august: from the POV of augustine, ”the other woman” Who is really just a girl falling for someone whos already with someone else. Telling the story as a teen.
-betty: from the POV of James. The teenage boy who messed up 😂
Also her father is amazing, he didn’t leave her haha. So it’s more of a worldwide thing when she says it.

Fantastic reaction as always! For more context on this album: She made Folklore during the pandemic, so the original tracks are fairly stripped back to begin with, and was all done remotely. The Long Pond Sessions are from when they finally met up in person to play the album together for the first time (so they're even more stripped back than the album). These are actually part of a documentary where they play the whole album and talk about each song. It's on Disney Plus and is 100% worthwhile to watch. (You can also find the clips of each song on RUclips, but not on her channel). The Long Pond Studio Sessions were also released as an album, so you should be able to find all of the non-visual versions (like this one) on her RUclips channel.

I love the connections you are making to TTPD songs already 😊 yes, you mentioned what ifs alluded to also in Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus and wondering around in the shops like she got lost from How Did It End.
I also connect "you'd be standing in my front porch light" with "dancing phantoms on the terrace, are they second hand embarrassed" from loml 😭
It's important to note for songs from Folklore and especially from Evermore that most of these songs are based on fictional stories/narratives.
There may be as little bit of her own life experience peppered in there, but it's general themes or references. It's not autobiographical to the time they were written in on those albums.
So if she's referencing breakups or cheating, it was not relevant to her own life in 2020 when both both of those albums were written and released.
Just mentioning it because new reactors get VERY wrapped up in trying to decifer meaning to her on tracks that she has said are largely inspired by fictional and even a few literary references 😊

If you do any more folklore, the next 2 August and Betty are part of a teenage love triangle. Cardigan is the POV of Betty, August is the POV of the other woman (Augustine) and Betty is the POV of James, there are f-bombs in Betty, there is a clean version, but most Swifties prefer the f-bomb versions. Fun fact: Taylor is friends with actor Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, their children's names are James (a girl), Inez, and Betty, you will hear their names in the song Betty. This is how the world found out their 3rd daughter's name, she had been born months before. They have since had another child, but no one still doesn't know what they had or their name.
