I've had my sink clogged bad for MONTHS and as a woman with zero knowledge for plumbing this video just got me to unclog it all by myself this afternoon. Seriously thank you!
i bought one of those from home depot and it was a waste of my time. didnt help at all. i had buildup on the pvc deep into the walls. needed a pro to come out
Another way to check how far the clog is: poor some boiling hot water down the drain, then carefully touch the sections of the pipe. If it’s hot, there’s water in there. If not...well...then no water. Clog is where it stops being hot.
@@siobhanrocks45 😂😂. PVC pipes can handle some boiling water. Normal operating temperature for pvc is about 140 degrees with no issues. It can withstand up to 210 degrees. So using a little boiling water will not damage your pvc pipes. Think about kitchen sinks and making pasta you dump the boiling water down the drain. So please give people the correct information especially when it comes to a diy video.
Thank you, sir! Just bought my first house and know nothing about plumbing. I was going to call a plumber because the snake wasn't working, but thought why not try a diy vid on RUclips before I pay a ton of money to snake a bathroom sink? Thanks to your vid, I realized I was using the snake incorrectly. It's all about the twist! I really appreciate your help, sir. Not only did you save me money, but you have taught me something useful and helped me be a more self sufficient homeowner. Liking and subscribing!
You want to have 1” of water in the sink when you start sneaking it. This way when you hit the stoppage, the water will go down and you know that you need to work that spot. There’s a lot of things I could tell you to make it better but it takes a 30 minute video. Master plumber of 32 years.
i am at the point where i think the p trap will have to come off but was able to remove some goo, looks like not enough. And it's a major pain in the ... to get that snake go through curves.
why don't you just remove the p trap first. I'm suprised you were even able to get it past the trap. Afterall sometimes the drain pipes are hand tight and easy to remove, and then you can see if the problem isn't just that there is hair or gunk in the trap.
got the same issue. but took the p trap off. cleaned that out. put it back together. ran the water and still clogged. my plumbers snake doesn't go that far behind the way. so either get a new snake or have the plumber come out.
Just bought my first home, and your video helped me out a lot. I’m sure it will be one of many how to videos that I will have to watch. I hit the subscribe button😎 Thank you
Amazing that little bit of debris was causing clog. Good jon though. I enjoy learning stuff I didnt know before. Wouldnt have thought to use plunger or to have to close tiny hole at same time
Just got a new manual auger to clear out a clog on my bathroom sink. I couldn't remove the P-trap on my since it did not want to loosen up and I didn't want to risk breaking the PVC pipes. Used your vid here and it worked out. Drain cleared up. Nothing came up with the auger when I retracted it but whatever it was went through and the water is flowing through like new. Big ups to you and much appreciated.
I love that you didn't take apart the p trap or part near drain. I have a plumber here today. I had bad clog in my double vanity sink. I would plunge one side and it backed up in the other. It only drains from one line. With the plumber I see I had a bad drain in the line. He used the snake and got it immediately.
i have a similar amazon snake to yours and the problem i have is there is a cross brace in the drain i cant cant the snake tip past. i possibly with a lot of effort could punch it past, but i am afraid to get the auger tip stuck behind it. not sure if i should just really jam it past or go get another snake with a thinner tip??
I have a sink that's clogged be hind the wall I bought a snake like yours I live in a condo that has joined pipeing is this something I can do or should I call a plumber
Hi, i bought a Cobra brand snake gauge 15feet for my sink, its manual too but I was wondering, will it get stuck passed the P-trap or cause waiter into the house ? I turned of my sink water but not the shutfoff valve. I also want to make sure that 15 feet is enough to push things out of the vent and the snake wont get stuck ?
The Auger you are using has a detatchable handle and a cordless drill can be used to rotate the snake. The front handle is used to allow the snake to extend automatically when the canister is rotated clockwise. To remove the snake one muct reverse the rotation of the drill and hold the front handle. Why is it most people don't read the directions on how to correctly use a tool?
I'm pretty sure that model he's using isn't self-feeding. It it was, I'm sure he would have used a drill...... especially since his crank handle was missing.
I cleared my clogged drain myself, yesterday. I had never watched a video about using a snake, but I had heard the term, so I thought I’d give it a try. I had used the vinegar and baking soda and hot water trick about twenty times in the last couple of months and it worked minimally. But, yesterday the water had stayed in my sink for 24 hours without draining out. I had an old cell phone charging cord that I had saved, so I cut off the end and pushed it down into the drain. I did that two or three times and ouila! The sink drained. To finish it off, I used the baking soda and vinegar, so I hope I’m good now. While I’m typing, I can see the guy is taking the “pop up” out. I don’t think mine comes out. Oh my! His snake looks serious. I wanted to watch a video to see if I did it the right way.
This was super helpful! I’ve been fighting my clog with Drano for the past few days and finally decided to buy a snake. Problem is, I’ve never used one😅
I cut off the spring on the end of the snake. I put many 45% on the end so it will make all the turns. This take me several times bending until i have perfection. If this is not working well change the bends slightly until you can snake easier. When it's tough to get past the trap only use 1"-2" of snake between the drain and the snake. This will give you more push. If all else fails spin the snake backwards. Good luck. Thanks Gio.
Your sink is "clogged", then in same sentence you tell us it "drained". (Good one! How about demonstrating how to unclog with a clogged sink next time.)

I can relate! I am excited to give this a try! Thank you for making this video!

@hello-vy5lbwhat?
@hello-vy5lbwhat? He’s being honest
Thank you very much--I was using the snake wring. I could not feed it more into drain but with your video it worked--thanks again.
Thank you for this great video. Seems like one of the first how-to videos that actually worked exactly as shown with no surprises.
Thank you so much for this video
Thank you so much!!!
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽Great tutorial and information to gauge if professional is giving you the right diagnosis
My sink stopper does not have a cap... How am I supposed to reinstall it if it just falls down the pipe when I try to put the stopper back in?
Will this damage a pvc pipe?
@Metz. Excellent question!!! 👍🏾
No.
i bought one of those from home depot and it was a waste of my time. didnt help at all. i had buildup on the pvc deep into the walls. needed a pro to come out
How long to wait to use the sink water after the mixture is poured in?
Just did my shower backs all messed up lol
*Tent trailer*
How to unclog the sink it will undrained 😏

Just a note to anyone reading this: only do this if you have metal pipes! Boiling hot water can mess up PVC piping.

If you fill the sink with water while you're feeding and twisting the cable, you'll know exactly when the clog has been eliminated.

I just tried and failed to use a snake using just the instructions, and failed miserably. This video will be a huge help. Thank you!
Best video ever. Thanks for sharing. Unclogged my sink in 15 minutes, and saved $700 per sink ($1,400) from contracting services.

Thank you SO MUCH! This was so helpful for my bathroom sink! Oh my god it was so gross but it's all clean now!
Plugged sink, got my snake out and cleaned it out, lot of hair black gunk....I am proud of myself....Thank you for the instruction

Probably he pushed the rest of it loose and it washed down.
Excellent video. Thank you for the tutorial!
Remove the P Trap first. That’s what I do. Makes for less work in the long run. If the P Trap is clogged, easy to clear if you have it out.
This is what I have usually seen in DYI videos too.

Why do I watch these 🤔
Ahh water pressure....
Great video. Although I am the type that does it all wrong, then watches the correct way to do it. I now know for next time.
My sin clogs only when I fill it up andlater semove the rubber drain stopper then it takes a long time to drain.. Is there a way to fix that?
What about snake-oil?
For years I have been trying to use the snake and it never worked. Until I watched this video... Thank you!!

@@LoganStryker82 No need unless you want to know how to easily clear a completely clogged drain.
Used your video to unclog my sink and it was step by step how it worked
the mechanism that stops and holds the snake at its length is key
Amazing video and very through everything worked perfectly after following your steps thank you very much
This was super helpful! I’ve been fighting my clog with Drano for the past few days and finally decided to buy a snake. Problem is, I’ve never used one😅
The snake doesnt work in my case.
It always gets stuck when i try to shove it through the holes.
Im sure it works on different drains but not mine.
Never in my life has a hand auger work
Thanks for the video !!
Better off with drano
Thank you!
Take stopper out
Done and done! Thank you, brother!
Awesome. Thank you very much!!
Thanks
Yeah, wish I had a snake too. I’d be more popular.
😂😂😂

Theres money in plumbing though.

It WAS clogged...he was showing how far down the clog was based on long it took for the water to stop draining.
Exceptionally helpful video, sir. Thank you SO much!!!
