Unkillable: The Story of Ice-T's Metal Band Body Count, Part 1

  • "The Ballad of Body Count and 'Cop Killer'" is a fable as familiar as any in the Nineties rock canon, recounted in countless docs, history books, and Biography-style TV specials. The twist is that, nearly 30 years after Ice-T nearly scorched himself on what he calls "the electric fence" in American culture, the group is still going strong. In fact, even though much of the original band died from various causes, Body Count are arguably as strong as ever. Part 1 of Revolver's in-depth doc looks back at the incendiary band's rise and fall - before they rose again, that is.

My dad Craig used to rock out to Bodycount! He took his own life 6yrs ago, so when I seen this post, I clicked with the quickness, totally took me back and it hits home hard, I'm crying while I'm typing this, just thinking and reminiscing about the good ol days and how me and my dad Craig used to blast bodycount in his truck while driving somewhere.. those were def the good ol days. I love me some ice-t, kudos/props to him for being a vessel and for being confident and brave enough to experiment with his music energy/frequencies🎶💛🎶

Body Count -- they opened for Metallica with Guns & Roses in 1989 at a Day on the Green show in Oakland. Ice-T did surprise me; he would have posed strong competition to any thrash metal band. Since he'd already achieved his status in other "musical flavors," and television characters, why not a title role in every other field, too? Damn.
He's a man of many talents.

Ice T has always been one of the most important voices of our generation ("X"). Period. I'm about to turn 41. He's been in my headphones and vhs/DVD players for over 30 of those years. He was the killer of the bully when the bully said watch your mouth. T said naw fuk that. And his word stuck. He brought races, coasts, cultures and even families together over previously uncrossable boundry lines. White kids in a syndicate hats. Black kids in a metal pits. A whole generation of ppl standing up to police and government brutality. He changed the world, massively, for the better! Thats the illest shit a man can do, aside from parent right. And that's kinda it, too. He co-parented Gen X!!! Word. Peace to Ice T. And RIP to the bandmates. They helped bridge a major gap.

Every album they put out is killer, great crossover/groove/hardcore/thrash. One of my favorite bands of all time, I even own their debut Body Count in 4 different version (Vinyl/Cassette/Original Press (With Cop Killer) and Reissue. Last thing, the whole band is some of the nicest people I have ever met

I was so fucking happy when I discovered these guys. I blasted Cop Killer in my little West Coast Welsh town and pissed off so many people that didn't understand.
The first 2 albums still get regular rotation and the cover of Hey Joe is top class.

Ice T and Body Count NEVER get the credit they deserve. They are absolutely one of the all time greatest thrash metal bands of all time. With 1 song, they managed to piss off more people than NWA, Motley Crue, Guns n' Roses, Slayer, WASP, and 2 Live Crew COMBINED!!!!! Truly innovative artists, and truly BADASS!!!! And then, after losing all the members of the band except Ernie C, they rebuilt, and continue being BAD FUCKING ASS!!!!!

That guy has certainly made his point EXACTLY CLEAR & it’s always been his mentality since Body Count was brought to life right at the height of the Gangster Rap movement in the late 1980s/early 1990s, and Ice-T hass still as ferocious & hard as ever 🧊
Being a huge Melodic Heavy Metal 🤘🏻 fan myself I never imagined that such a great & now CLASSIC band made up of real life gang members/musicians & led by none other than one of the most talented yet controversial rappers in history could gain that level of respect, notoriety & unparalleled success over its 30 years of existence & they’re STILL as unapologetic as back then ✊ 👍
Speaking of which, and I’m making this case EXTRA CLEAR, their now iconic song “Cop Killer” isn’t about killing police but actually tells the story of a dream that Ice had one night in which he becomes fed up with the cops surrounding his home turf & he decides to, much to the chagrin of his neighbors, take matters into his own hands, which is exactly what NOT to do 🏠 🏡 ☝️ 🚔 👮 👮‍♀️

They never mentioned the Murder 4 Hire Album. I'd like to see that album remastered because I heard the mixing in terms of sound/track levels weren't really up to par with the rest of their work.
