Yeah coordinated 8s and 4s seems so good. Without a road builder this setup seems really poor
At the start of your Catan journey, you are focused on your setup and see the board as what you produce. I recommend most newer or growing players to get all 5 resources, so I would recommend 8410 for most players because it's self-sufficient and easy to play. As you progress as a player, you see the board as a whole and realize that ALL cards are in play with trading and deal-making. Given the deficiencies of the other players, I knew my brick and wheat had trade value. Perfect example is that I can trade my brick to red and orange and my wheat to black for wood and sheep. Not to mention once once I get a few knights, I can leverage the robber to keep the development cards flowing. This position works PERFECTLY in the mix of this board. I also like the idea of double ore and wheat to ensure I city quickly and use that extra production effectively.
@@dandydrew looking back i really like that decision because getting whole cities is generally a much more difficult objective than getting an individual sheep or wood which can be achieved with the robber or trading. very interesting in terms of meta

@@dandydrewCurious why you didn’t go 9/4/3 left for your second settle? Same benefits as you described above, but the touch of wood would’ve made it more more feasible to get to 6/3 without depending on pulling rb? Or did it have to be 9/4/11 to lock the ore?

In hindsight, I should have taken those comments out since I don't want to put bad vibes out there but I really didn't want anything to do with this guy. He was insulting players and complaining while we were robbing him, and after he won, he continued to insult for no reason. It wasn't worth posting the game because it would paint online Catan in a bad light.
i mean multiple coordinated numbers are always feast or famine. It was feast day for you today =)
Wow drew. My 2nd pick would be 8/10/4 every single time. All 5 resources (rather than 3), connected wood and brick.
7:13 brick for sheep trade, turned into a vp
9:31 wheat for sheep trade, turned into a knight
9:56 brick and wheat for sheep trade, turned into a knight
10:38 stole a sheep from red, turned into a road builder
At that point the game was over. Black later had a powerful mono on the wheat (pretty lucky card to draw for the guy with no wheat) but that still wasn’t enough. Trading masterclass
And those knights are pretty easy to turn into future devs given all the sheep on the board and with just a little bit of tracking. Three trades for sheep and a steal was really all you needed to be on your way to victory
If this game happened with my friends over the board we probably wouldnt play Catan again for a few months lol
nice game dandy, I was very tempted by coordinated 8-4-10 second settle, good discipline to watch for variance

@@dandydrewI had a game 3 days ago where I ended with 2 points. Finished 100 global last season. 9 5 10 and 8 4 with all resources. Got robbed 5 times, 31 total resources, 8 lost to 7 and 7 lost to monos from a player before me. I couldn't believe what I was witnessing.

Honestly, the dice weren’t all that crazy. When you got in fours, you easily lost in 9s and 8s. Haters be hating.
ngl u won with a pretty awful setup. maybe thats smart. im around 1500 in base 1350 in ck and I feel like the stronger my placements are, the worse i do due to getting targeted more and fewer trades.
The fact you think this is awful tells me you have some gaps in your placement awareness and strategy. Of course my rolls were great but strategically, I have a fantastic setup that allows me to scale quickly and get good trades early on.
You need to stop commenting on people asking for a resource and then blocking it, because you do it all the time
