On that river (in August), a lot of the larger trout lay low due to the warmer water temps. Cold September nights will get the fish more active again during the day. Nice footage. It's a pretty area. Good campsite and tent timelapse.
I appreciate the insight! I wasnt sure if it had something to do with how bad the area burned and that affecting fish movement in the rivers but the water in one of those rivers was quite warm which makes sense given how hot its been. Ill have to come back when things cool down and bigger fish are back on the move. Thanks for watching, appreciate the kind words!
Been checking out your channel, let me know if you want to do some coastal cutty fishing when you come out this way! Would be fun to film an episode together, I'm new out here and still learning the land. Living in Seaside though so the coastal rivers are easy access.
@@LifeOutdoors hahaha, I got you. It's why I didn't post and scrolled to see if anyone had, like I said, you def deserved the kind approach. But TBH, I actually stopped watching as soon as you touched the salmon smolt without wetting your hands. I wish you a lifetime of tight lines and willing trout! I'll be back to watch again.
Yeah I normally am good about it but to be honest my hands were wet from that first fish and they never were super dry so it's not as bad as it looked I promise! Tight lines to you and best of luck in your future trips!!
I’m a local on this river system, I’m so happy To see TU doing restoration work out here! Where can I find info about the restoration and possibly can I volunteer to help?
Thats awesome to hear! I have a video that I filmed for them that will be coming out in the next couple months that you'd probably enjoy to learn a little more about the project. Here is their chapter link clackamasrivertu.org Or you can visit the TU chapter page www.tu.org/magazine/conservation/clackamas-river-tu-steps-up-for-their-home-waters/
Nice find. Is this is the Big Bottom area? I haven't had too many chances to fish the Upper Clack, but on the few occasions I have I've found the larger trout are very elusive if present at all, the smaller ones, as you see, are voracious when they want to feed (but can still be easily spooked) and that with long stretches of it being very accessible, the further off the beaten track you go, likely the better it will be. I was actually down there yesterday although not specifically to fish. Hopefully I can get another day or two on it before season's end. Have you fished the Collawash much? I've caught some quite nice if not really big, trout on it during a few solo camp forays. Again, you have to go a fair way upstream and be prepared to rough it a little for the best results, or go when it's quieter. Thanks for the vid.
Im not familiar with the Big Bottom area but this was fairly far up into the forestry roads. I want to get back out there now that the weather has cooled off and flows should be coming up, i think it could be a totally different fishery. Ill have to give the Collawash a better look too because i did fish it a little but it was pretty warm when i was there. Appreciate the kind words and thanks for stopping by my channel!
Hey I'll be heading out to Portland Oregon from Atlanta in a couple days and wanted to see if you could recommend me some good trout and salmon fishing spots/creeks. Also would love any other recommendations such as food, nightlife , and beautiful parks! thanks hopefully this reaches you!
Thanks for stopping by the channel! I live on the coast in Seaside, OR about 1.5 hours away from Portland so I don't have a lot of experience in the actual Portland area. I would say check out some guides in the area for salmon because they are definitely out right now and the boat guys are having good success. As for food, there's killer food carts all over. Nob Hill food trucks and Prost! is awesome with tons of options. Multnomah falls is always pretty if you want a little drive along the Columbia.
I always wanna help with trout unlimited bluebacks but they continue to schedule things on days I work so I never get to help but I help other watersheds
I'm sorry to hear the timing hasn't worked out thus far! Hopefully they end up adding some additional opportunities that work for you. If I ever organize a TU volunteer event here on the coast ill be sure to post about it and let folks know how to get involved.
I do motorcycle camping and wanna start fishing while I motto camp do you know what road that camp spot was off of I used to go down 224 to a hot springs but people trashed the spot and it’s closed now been trying to find another low use area if you don’t wanna give the spot out I completely understand
I'm actually looking to get my first bike here soon! As for the location, it's along that road on the way to the hot springs I'm pretty sure. There were tons of random cool pull offs to camp at!

Respectfully we need to get our hands wet when handling fish. Nice video.
Always room to improve!
You said it a lot nicer than I was going to...I'm glad you said it and not me. By his response, he deserved patience and kindness. Way to go.
@kendallsmith9083 we’re all nice here on this channel! Haha thanks for watching 🙌🏼

I live in portland and just getting in to fly fishing. I have know idea where you are but damn this look amazing.. Is it near estacada?
You're in a great spot to get into fly fishing! Yup, just keep heading into the wilderness south of there and you'll find some awesome stuff.

Bro.. it's beautiful area bro.. 👍
Absolutely gorgeous out there! I'm excited for my next trip.

@@LifeOutdoors awesome thank you I’ll have to go out that way soon and scout some spots. Was there any bike in particular you where looking at?
Good deal! Dm me on IG if you need pins. I’m looking at a TS or a TC 125-185 as a light bike I can throw in the truck and use for river shuttles
@@LifeOutdoors yeah I’ll shoot you a dm I got a pin for you aswell
🤘🏼
Nothin' but sardines, darn. Fun outdoors anyway.
Haha yup 😂 check my new video for something way bigger than a sardine!
That looks like some relatively infertile water. They fish like sardine factories.
It definitely wasn’t a fishy time of the year for the stretch I was in.
Looks like the Nehalem river?
This was out on the Clackamas River. Its a little ways from Portland.
@@LifeOutdoorswhat part of the Clackamas?
Just out exploring the upper reaches.
What’s the location of this place
Southeast of Portland!
@@LifeOutdoors any idea of the address
Clackamas
