One of Bert's finest ever songs (of which there were many), inspired by the untimely death of a fellow musician who, although talented, never achieved fame and fortune. Poignant, heartfelt, briliantly executed with such memorable lyrics. The mark of a genius, which Bert certainly was. Doubt if we will ever see his like again. Thank you.
was at this gig met him after the show he really is a humble a man as folk say he is a one off this man the word legend is used a lot these days this man is the real deal
R.I.P bert.i got to see you briefly at one of his last pentangles gig but i was workin so i only got to see him for a few minutes.im so gutted ,i really wanted to see him play solo.thank you for your brilliance
I think that it is wonderful that people still write songs with some kind of meaning attached, and this song is a rare example. Bert has got the unique talent of brilliant guitar playing AND songwriting. Not even Dylan can say that. But I still think that he is dylanesque in some way. Leonard Cohen is probably a better similarity.
I got into him to late I was told by him when I met Robin pecknold he said he influenced him and I went home and listened funnily enough I unaware of his death until I checked the fleet foxes website RIP
I should have tried much harder to reach out when I could, but it's all over now baby blue. To a girl from my school which I'll never see again. School's over and we're through
The Lady from Baltimore line must refer to Tim Hardin the songwriter, perhaps he and Bert hung around together getting high, Tim passed over quite some time ago.

First saw Bert at 3 am, at Les Cousins, an all night folk club in London in November 1966. He's still the greatest acoustic guitarist ever.
What a hero... devastated to hear the news. Thanks for the tunes and the good times.
R.I.P
I miss Bert so much, I miss John!!! But, in a way, they'll live forever
Bert and Cliffo were great mates. A brilliant tribute. Rest in Peace chums.
this song always reminds me of my brother who passed away thank you Bert..
Thanks for everything. Without you a lot of modern contemporary music just wouldn't exist in the form it does. You were a magician.
This song never gets old.
One of the greatest acoustic guitarist and songwriter of the planet!
His music will survive...
You play your guitar, but you never ever finish the song
Didn’t matter than, and I guess it doesn’t matter now....
RIP...thanks for your sound...

Natural gifts, and a life time perfecting his art, have made this man a majical and inspiring artist.
Was an inspiration to me since my teenage years. Bert will be sadly missed.

R.I.P Bert you will be deeply missed
I love his 60s and 70s work, but this performance is by a much diminished man. May he rest in peace.
Just woke up and heard that he died...... words won't do it.... RIP
You can really feel some influences from Dylan, but it is Bert all the way. Brilliant man!
great

Great song
Hey, we're all just actors strutting this world stage for a short while!
The Lady from Baltimore line must refer to Tim Hardin the songwriter, perhaps he and Bert hung around together getting high, Tim passed over quite some time ago.
The song is about fellow guitarist Cliff Aungier who recorded an album called, and cover version, of The Lady From Baltimore.
4 people must be in their down days now !
Amazing song...can't find a tab anywhere and it's a bit too complex for me to do which is a shame. Anyone got it laid around?
its in Bbm played with a capo like Em. u can figure it out i just did
@EversoleKid totally from heaven :)
I assume this is from a TV programme? Was it on BBC Scotland, or BBC4...?
It's not the guitar playing or the music, it's this depressed mood that you can hear in "Sad eyed lady of the low lands" and such. Just an opinion.
indeed, but it is not that old :)
if you gonna buy any of his albums i suggest you start with heartbreak
RIP
