Real sound people teach. Great update dude! Glad to see you again. :-) Producers will always complain about the sound department rates but have no issue with paying for multiple cameras and entire camera teams for each camera though. Weird that the one single person in charge of half the show (the other half being picture) is costing them too much. When people complain about my rates and try saying something like "I've never paid so much for a sound person before" I know they aren't likely going to hire me so I don't mind firing back at them with things like "That says more about the shows you work on versus the shows I work on." Whatever, I'll find another show that will pay my rate. Take care brother!
Couldn't agree more brother! It's almost as if they're guilt tripping you to go cheaper. I find if you throw in the phrase "Union Rates" it scares them to ask for less xD. Love your channel btw! Super insightful. You've taught me loads!
indeed thanks for stopping by Allen, Im gonna incorporate that strategy on my next low ball producer hahaha I just want to make movies you know do my best and pay my bills ❤️
Deity. 2nd year sound student here just starting to build my first bag, your video's got me out of a few sticky situations in my first year! glad to have you back
Deity! I have watched your videos for a couple years now, your content have really helped me to learn and to understand a lot more about sound. Is has to be my favorite channel about the topic. Also I've been missing the vlogs (even the more personal stuff) hope you're doing great. Sorry if my english is bad.
Deity- Appreciate you taking the time to share experiences and perspective. Recently built my own cart and was inspired by your newest(at least was then) design. Rack mount setup. Thanks again and cheers from the left coast.
i got some issues my dude keep changing all the time, you know when i was a kid my room was never the same for more than a week hahahah glad this is helping you good luck with he cart
Deity. Been a subscriber for sometime. Love your fluffy and laidback personality. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, experience and honest hands on reviews.
D E I T Y ! gotta say man, it’s fun to sit down with you and listen to what your world is like. Seem like a very chill guy, and I hope your career keeps moving in the right direction
Deity. Hello I am a swedich student of sound for film and media, and youre videos have help me and get me thinking about things i din not think about. I realy like for exempel youre mix pre 6 setup video and how to organais youre sound bag. Thanks for all youre great content and I am very happy you are back!
Deity. Good to see you back dude, I have been sub'd for a really long time and one of the people that helped me decide to move into production sound. I am new and have lots to learn ( even though I have been in the audio industry for 30yrs). Its hard here in the UK as I'm starting out, but I have had my first gig and loved every HH:MM:SS:FF of it. looking forward to more content mate !
I hear you about negotiating rates. When a client low balls I just think to my self “ I’m not that hungry, but if i cut my rate I soon will be hungry”. Under cutting on price is a race to the bottom. Another thing I always think about when I except a job is that the money needs to be there because if a better gig comes along I might want to hand ball that job to some other soundo but they won’t want to do it if the money is crap. It is about guarantee of supply. Also, I never tell I client I don’t want to do their job. I just tell them “sorry, I’m already booked”. Thanks for sharing. ✌️😎
Deity- Thank you for this channel. It has taught me so much in my relatively short time as a freelance sound recordist. Please continue to make awesome, informative content for our community!
Deity. Love the vid man and glad to see you uploading again! Watching your journey from the beginning has been super inspiring. Watching you build up your kit and work on bigger and bigger productions has been so cool. Keep it up!!
oh brother you and me its been 7 years now since we started i think crazy and yes im super fortunate i just like making movies. :d thanks for the kind words
Deity. As Rodolfo's first mentor i have to say that I'm really proud of the big boi he is right now. I used to teach him how to change batteries on TX, or how to cut moleskin with a scissor or how not to smack an actor on the shins with the boom pole! Look at you Rudy, you are THE Man. (Obviously it's all the other way around, Rodolfo Is an absolute unit of a Sound Boss. miss you buddy 💔)
Deity -- nice to see you positing again, rodolfo :D eyeing those stickers and clothing merch on the new site. hope you continue to take care of yourself and properly valuing your work! I know I haven't been the best at setting my rates high enough. :/
Deity. Glad to have you back. I personally understand, why you want to shift from that personal style into a more objective style, although I've always enjoyed the mix. It's enjoyable to see the everyday on set, some 'here's my day' together with gear updates and reviews! Also, if the control mechanism helps you with your personal goal of weight loss, that's important, too, I'm guessing. Anyways, love your videos, have a good one!
Deity. Dude! I love your onset vlogs, don't stop them (or sure, maybe do them on another channel). They're so insightful to see the breadth of shooting styles. Also, I'll miss Andy too much if he's not around xD
Deity. It's good not to feel that all youtubers are in "artificial/fake" mode, who regard their subscribers as consumers above all. Good luck with anything beneficial you do.
Deity. It's amazing to see you back, man! I've also had a couple of weird experiences lately setting up rates with clients, and, yes, keeping a level head is always the best way to go about in negotiations, even if you need to step out of the conversation for a bit, or if you need to flat out pass on the job
Diety… I would love to see more review about sound gears. And comparison. Watched your channel grow from 1200 subscribers I guess. It’s been a wonderful journey with you.
Deity. Good to see you are back. I e-mailed you a question some months ago about how to handle microphones in rain (to get as good sound as possible, even when raindrops are hitting the hardware). In my part of the world it rains a lot. A I imagine it also rains alot in Canada I'm sure you have some ideas on how to handle the problem. Cheers.
Deity. Is it a location sound course that you're teaching at VFS, and is it offered as a stand-alone course if so? I'm trying to break into location sound and get enough days for ACFC right now and would be interested in something along those lines.
its part of a bigger program, unfortunately no stand alone classes, facebook is a great source for finding gigs try and get on any set you can doing whatever that way you can collect days,
