Congratulations mate! I’m so glad to see you do north Japan and Tohoku justice in these videos. NEXT UP, please take Natsuki with you on a climb! It’d be nothing short of a hilarious odyssey 😅.
Natsuki... yeah he'd probably be stopping every 5 minutes for a smoke break. They wouldn't get very far before the sun sets. Though the banter and complaining would be sheer comedy.
Great idea putting the visualisation of the walk in at the start. It contributes to clarifiying the scale of your trek. Other than that, lovely walk and hopefully the channel keeps growing.
I follow several J-tubers (I found this channel through Sharla) and I'm super happy that there's someone like you out here showing a part of the country others don't. Keep it up!
As a previous resident of Mutsu-shi and Hirosaki, I am so pleased to see you showing the beauty of Northern Japan. Please go to Shimokita pennisula and film at Osore-san. Thank you and greetings from Oregon
Congratulations on the 10k milestone! You deserve it, and way more, an amazing youtuber, and even more incredible person. Your hikes have been an inspiration and provided the freedom needed in these times. Keep it up, and let's go for the 50k.
Thank you so much!! I feel really lucky to be able to live up here where going out to these natural areas is still possible despite everything in the world.
Well done sir. I managed to crack a hundred subs this past week😂. Thanks for bringing back the memories of that wonderful mountain. Looking forward to seeing more of the wonders of Tohoku through your eyes.
Congratulations! I've just joined your Patreon. Pity that the extra video tier is a bit above my budget, but I'm here for the ongoing increase in video quality! :) And I like how you now say caldera instead of crater, after that commenter's wife educated us last week :).
Thank you!!! And yes, I very much appreciate that commenter's wife :) I actually recorded a bit where I thanked them for the correction and information but ended up cutting it before the final draft.
Great video. I subscribed after seeing you take Sharla to the abandoned power station. I love Japan and the great community of RUclipsrs are doing a fine job showing the world how great the country is.
This climb was stunning, loved how the mist and cloud clinged to the mountain, I've never painted a landscape in my life but your videos always make me itch for my acrylics. Thanks for the great video, and congrats on 10k!
The animated trail guide with elevation at the start was fantastic to get oriented, Quinlan! I often go to google maps to see the surroundings with all the travel videos I watch and it gives me a bit of sense-of-place.
10k !!!!! CONGRATULATIONS on your achievement, many more to come, I'm sure. How are those new boots going. You know the saying, if you could walk a mile in my shoes. Man I am 59 next month I would walk 10 000 miles in your shoes to see that magnificent country. Absolutely love watching your stuff. 😎🐨🦘👍
Congratulations! Your videos provide a much needed daily dose of nature along with the inspiration to travel to Japan not just for the usual tourist attractions, but also the great outdoors. I hope to visit these beautiful places soon
Congratulations on 10,000! The northern regions of Japan are amazingly beautiful and I thank you for sharing your videos with us. If I were ever to move to Japan I would live in the north because its seasons are most like the Midwest US where I was born and raised. Plus I would get to visit the mountains. I would take a mountains of Japan tour just to see and hike all of the ones allowed.
Congratulations for the 10k! As some have said I ran into your channel from Sharla’s. I really love how you show the hardly ever seen world or hiking and mount climbing in Japan, and specially of a rarely explored region as northern Japan. If I may ask 1 thing and suggest 1 thing it’s this. 1. What is your day job? If you have one, besides the Airbnb. Photographer? Video editor? English teacher? And the suggestion is that it would be nice to see a bit more of Morioka from your perspective. The people, the food, culture... the occasional change of content such as when you had the zen monk. Best of luck in your channel!!!!
Thanks! And thank you for the question! I'll address it in the Q&A. Good call on Morioka. I would like to do more on various aspects of the city and interview various people. The only reason that I haven't done much of that is the technical difficulty. I'm still learning about lighting, etc. for interviews. But I'm working on it and will get on that!
Congratulations on your 10,000 subscribers. What a milestone! Looking forward to watching more of your beautiful hiking trails of Iwate, Japan and beyond.
Congratulations! Your videos have been a respite from quarantine. I have really enjoyed seeing the trails of northern Japan and vicariously walking them with you. Thanks and all the best!
I recently discovered your channel and I'm amazed. Thank you for the great content you create and share. Certainly brings peace, the landscapes and highlights from every video dropped my stress level.
There is an ウグイス outside my apartment right now that gave a hearty reply to the one in the video (I live in Hokkaido). Thanks for a full 4D experience!
I'm planning a trip through northern Japan (hopefully) in 2021. Thanks to you, Chris, and Sharla I finally pulled the trigger and started the planning stage. I'll be spending a couple of nights in Morioka, so who knows, might have to get the details to your AirBnB at some point. Congrats on 10k!
Congratulations on 10k! Would you be willing to do a video on what tourists coming from overseas should bring with them if they intend to go hiking somewhere like Mt. Iwate? Like what they should bring vs. what you can rent or buy there. Maybe you could share what you carry in your pack when you climb? (Even the camera gear). Maybe you could share any trail etiquette differences you notice between the USA and Japan (if there are any) I love your videos and my husband is super keen to try some of the hikes you have shown whenever we next get to Japan.
That's a fantastic idea! I will definitely do that! I'm fairly casual about hiking, so people might be surprised at how little I carry, but in my defense they are day hikes and I'm not going overnight, etc. Still, it's probably somewhat useful information.
Congratulations on the 10k!! Two years ago my boyfriend and I went to Japan and our favourite place by far was Morioka. We met the nicest people and the scenery was absolutely gorgeous. Seeing your videos makes me want to go back so bad!!! Thank you so much for taking us with you on your new adventures. Greetings from Uruguay :)
Congratulations Quinlan. I found your channel the other day, and I gotta say that I am completely in love with it. These hikes are fascinating. Thank you for taking us with you. yay! congrats! Love your videos. I have a question for a Q&A video in the future: Since you mentioned that you lived in Tokyo for 10 years, what place in Tokyo do you miss the most after you moved to Morioka?
Congrats on the success Quinlan! Thank you for continuing to capture these beautiful parts of Northern Japan. I can’t wait to explore these myself one day. Keep up the good work!
Just as I was going to sleep last night, I saw the notification. I was up early this morning, walking my dog along the trails of Brisbane, Australia and then watched this lovely video. The only good thing about canceling my trip to the Tohoku region this year was I’m determined to change my trip into a longer one. Congratulations on what you’ve achieved.
Congratulations! You deserve so much more, I'm really enjoying each and every video you made! Thank you for amazing content, sharing beauty of Northern Japan and take care on the trails!
Congrats on the 10k Subscribers!!!! Cant wait for 100k! You deserve it so much Quinlan!!! Also side note i now know when i finally make my way to Japan to make room to AirBnB with you haha! My Brother and I love beautiful hikes!
I love Tohoku, it's my fave region. I still have to visit Iwate-ken to complete it. For now I've only been to tourist areas but someday I want to go visit less explored places.
Thankyou for this video Quinlan, I have only recently found your channel and this is my favourite film so far, so inspiring, I really hope that in the future I can visit Japan, the Northern area interests me most and I would love to walk trails like this. Hokkaido also looks wild and wonderfull. Best wishes for you and your channel from the U.K.
Congratulations for 10k Quinlan, you really deserve it so much! Been subscribed since you had like 500 subscribers and been watching every single video since then, I'm glad I could witness your content improvement with each episode and the way you got so much more comfortable vlogging, keep up the great work and you'll just keep growing more and more, you're awesome :)
I've only passed through Morioka on our way to to the Lake Tazawa area in Akita. We'll stop in Morioka next time for sure, largely because of your incredible videos. Hopefully it won't be too long before we see you in your adopted hometown. 'Grats on your RUclips milestone. It is well deserved.
Fantastic! Lake Tazawa is also a great area. The waterfalls near Matagi no Sato station to the north are also amazing - I'll make a video on them soon.
So happy for you, man! We might soon climb together :) (My adventure might actually happen, too. I've scheduled a videocall for the end of the month and was already told I'm the only one interested at the moment.)
Congrats bro.you deserve that 10k subscribers.keep making videos about north Japan..It's sad to say that I'm going back to the Phillipines this coming november and never come back to this beautiful place , I will be missing this place..but it's okay I will be watching your videos everytime you have new one..I'm planning to climb again Mt. Iwate for the last time before I come back to my country..I'm waiting for the Good weather maybe this month or next month..congrats again bro..take care always..
Thank you so much!!!! And thank your wife for correcting me! I have some footage of a few hikes that I took previous to that comment where I may have used "crater" so please for give if I use that footage for a future video. I'll correct my words with a subtitle in that case. And really, I am so grateful for your support!
Congrats Quinlan on 10K and thank you for again posting one of your spectacular hikes to share the news. 😀 I too have a volcano (extinct) in my backyard. Happy Trails!!
Congratulations on your milestone! I really enjoy each and every video you post on your channel and am always looking forward to the next one! (the one on your overnight sky-trip was especially awesome) Northern Japan is simply phenomenal by the looks of it. As I'm learning Japanese at the moment and looking to moving to the country as well in a couple of years, the Tohoku region is sure looking like a place well worth living in ^^ Keep up your good work! On to next 10k!
I honestly just love this channel so much, it's always relaxing and fun to watch! Also quite refreshing to see nature-focused content as the vast majority of vloggers in Japan seem to stick to culture and cities (I mean come on, the nature in Japan is stupid beautiful). Congrats on the 10K!!! Would love to see more foraging videos :)
I want to actually come with you, and then you can leave me in that little shack at the top of the mountain. Hahaha. Congrats on 10k subs! I really love your videos, they are exactly the type of things I'd like to do in Japan. Your videos are definitely worth subscribing too.
Hahaha- absolutely! Huzzah for Wisconsinites! But yeah- raised in Chicago would result in some serious inner turmoil, LOL. (In all seriousness I love Chicago as well. Great city.)
Congrats and thank you for these videos. I feel like from this point on the numbers will go up exponentially. Also, that spot is very fitting for this video.
Congrats. Your videos are the type that I have to pay attention to because I would miss magnificent scenery and footage. Some channels or shows you can play as background noise but yours are amazing.
Looks fantastic! I climbed it once when I was living in Fukushima. Have been down in Okinawa and Mie for the past 12 or so years but have just had a job offer to help promote Iwate so looks like I might be moving up that way early 2022. Looking forward to it if all goes well.
@@GoNorthJapan As a photog/writer for pref gov to promote ski/snowboarding at Shizukuishi and the beauty of Iwate particularly to AU/NZ. If you ever need any help with video production it would be fun to colab!
congrats on 10k man! your vids are great, the landscaped are beautifully captured; i'd love to see more, and learn more about you and your stories about experiences in japan through your videos
Congratulations for reaching 10k Quinlan! Your video's/adventures are beautiful and inspiring and I look forward to seeing you hit the next milestone as you continue to grow 😁
Congratulations on this youtube milestone!! I love your videos because they remind me of my childhood growing up in Switzerland and its mountains. It's really amazing how similar Northern Japan is to the landscapes I know and love! Thanks to your channel I have become really interested in visiting the nature and the culture there!
Congrats on the sub count! I have no doubt it will continue to steadily grow. Your content is wonderful, and your music and scenery is so peaceful. I like to put on your playlist while I’m studying Japanese!
Congratulations on 10k!! I've been a fan of your videos for a while now and you've always been such a joy to watch. A true little happy moment. Thank you for all you do. May your hike to 20k be a smooth one!
Thank you so much for sharing your amazing experiences on the trails. I stumbled upon your channel via Sharla and have been mainlining basically every single video of yours these last couple of days. I'm honoured I subbed to your channel when you were about to hit an impressive 10k milestone though you totally deserve a lot more! It is sad that I haven't payed much attention to Iwate as a real location. I definitely should have. Okay let me explain, so I've been reading the works of Kenji Miyazawa, from Hanamaki, on and off since I was in uni. Although he's most famous for his fairy tales it was his poetry that blew my mind with highly imaginative, playfully dense free verse. As a geology teacher and an amateur naturalist he was well versed in mineralogy and stuff and a number of his poems are dedicated to and take place in countryside Iwate. So I immediately recognised some place names like Mt. Iwate or Komagatake when you mentioned them in your vids. Unfortunately though I hadn't done much research on my own nor had I visited Iwate myself so it wasn't until I binged your channel that I finally came to _see_ see how these landscapes he'd cherished so much actually look like. His almost fantastic depiction of Iwate's landscape through a poet's lens, ethereal and otherworldly yet enticing and friendly, now makes much more sense to me as you helped me visualise them in 4k definition. Like many other Tokyoites I admit I've low key ignored Tohoku in general in favour of Hokkaido when it comes to taking a trip north but you completely changed my minds. Thanks again! As a craft beer aficionado I'm looking forward to your sake and beer contents as much as your outdoor stuff.
I lived in Hanamaki for a couple years and have ready many of Kenji Miyazawa's works! I've even used a couple of his poems to illustrate areas when guiding tourists. (He wrote a poem in Spring and Asura called Yoganryu about the Yakehashiri Yoganryu in Hachimantai.) If you're ever up here hit me up. It'd be fun to talk about all that over a craft beer in town.
Congratulations on a well-deserved 10k! These videos always make a perfect relaxation in the middle of the work day, and thanks to always being seduced by these beautiful sights, I've managed to convince my friends to go up north during our upcoming trip to Japan. Maybe we'll be able to use your Airbnb!
Congratulations on 10k! You've quickly become one of my favorite channels and I know you're going to just keep gaining more and more viewers! I've already wanted to visit Tohoku because of Sharla but you've just reinforced that it's somewhere I need to go and you've also given me great ideas on places I need to see! Much love from Colorado
Congrats on 10,000 subscribers! Thank you for the map of the trail and leaving the stats up a tad longer-it was perfect. Also, thanks for explaining the kanji. I love that. The shot of the caldera when you reached the summit is beautiful. I was wondering, who maintains the trails/ropes/signs/etc? Volunteers?
Glad that was the right length of time! It's part of the Towada-Hachimantai National Park, so it's a government ministry that sends people up to maintain them and/or hires contractors. I've been up while people are replacing signs before. It's impressive how they carry these huge heavy things up the mountain.
Congratulations on the subscribers! I have been enjoying your videos for a few months now and felt like I was in some private club that transports me to exclusive exotic locales. I would like to know more about Northern Japan like if I were to visit what is the best way to get around (train? car? bike?). How much time would I need to visit the places you've been taking us to? Where would you recommend people stay? Hotels vs airbnb that kind of thing. On a personal level I'm just curious how you ended up in Japan in the first place. I also really enjoyed the conversation with the Zen Monk so I hope you'll keep doing that.
based in toei aichi, find yr video very moving, honest, and inspiring in your journey and mission. sending great respect and thanks for your message, passion and attention to detail. we need to get this great lands out to the greater world. hope to learn more from yr channel how i can also do similar....
Congrats on 10k!!! I'm so sad that JET was postponed because now I'm even further from getting my dream placement in Tohoku! Watching your videos make it feel closer, and gives me hope I can see those places someday. Quinlan, what is your day job that you get so many opportunities to hike? Do you miss anything about Wisconsin (I've only been once to Lake Tomahawk but it was beautiful!)? Is there any piece of gear that unexpectedly was useful on a hike? And finally you need to make a whole video about that storm story!
Congratulations! Many more subscribers to come I think, one of my favourite channels to watch. I like all your hiking videos, and your wild vegetable / foraging videos too. I was wondering in the north of japan are there as many temples / ancient japanese sites as compared to the south?
There definitely are a few very major ones. I don't usually do standard tourist-type sites like that, but if I paired it with interesting (I hope) stories from history of the area it could be appealing to people I hope....
@@GoNorthJapan Well it doesn't have to be the tourist hotspots, perhaps off the beaten track spots like you specialise in. I'd love to see stuff like that - I enjoyed your explanations of the legends and history surrounding Mt. Hayachine and the Funekko Nagashi Festival. Especially with the mt Hayachine climb, it really complimented the video :D

Congrats on 10k! My wife was so happy when you said “caldera.” 😂 You put a smile on our faces. Happy to join your Patreon!
Thank you so much!!!! And thank your wife for correcting me! I have some footage of a few hikes that I took previous to that comment where I may have used "crater" so please for give if I use that footage for a future video. I'll correct my words with a subtitle in that case.
And really, I am so grateful for your support!
Congratulations! Here's to all of your great content, and to all that you haven't created yet!
Congrats Quinlan on 10K and thank you for again posting one of your spectacular hikes to share the news. 😀 I too have a volcano (extinct) in my backyard. Happy Trails!!
Nice!! and thank you!
Congratulations on your milestone! I really enjoy each and every video you post on your channel and am always looking forward to the next one! (the one on your overnight sky-trip was especially awesome)
Northern Japan is simply phenomenal by the looks of it. As I'm learning Japanese at the moment and looking to moving to the country as well in a couple of years, the Tohoku region is sure looking like a place well worth living in ^^
Keep up your good work!
Next spring I'll definitely do more foraging videos! (Might do a mushroom foraging video in the autumn as well.)

That would be amazing. I'm not so confident, but can dream!
Congrats. Your videos are the type that I have to pay attention to because I would miss magnificent scenery and footage. Some channels or shows you can play as background noise but yours are amazing.
Thanks so much! Glad that you like them!
I am enjoying your videos. Congratulations on 10,000 subscribers.
Looks fantastic! I climbed it once when I was living in Fukushima. Have been down in Okinawa and Mie for the past 12 or so years but have just had a job offer to help promote Iwate so looks like I might be moving up that way early 2022. Looking forward to it if all goes well.
Wow, who would you be working for?
@@GoNorthJapan As a photog/writer for pref gov to promote ski/snowboarding at Shizukuishi and the beauty of Iwate particularly to AU/NZ. If you ever need any help with video production it would be fun to colab!
Thanks to you to share all those videos!
Congrats on 10k!! I love getting to see all the beautiful areas to hike in your area. I'm always amazed by its beauty
Congrats on 10k! 🎉
Congratulations, I can't wait to see more of your videos I love the fact that you put the information on the hike at the start of the video
congrats on 10k man! your vids are great, the landscaped are beautifully captured; i'd love to see more, and learn more about you and your stories about experiences in japan through your videos
Congratulations for reaching 10k Quinlan!
Your video's/adventures are beautiful and inspiring and I look forward to seeing you hit the next milestone as you continue to grow 😁
Thank you!
Congratulations on this youtube milestone!! I love your videos because they remind me of my childhood growing up in Switzerland and its mountains. It's really amazing how similar Northern Japan is to the landscapes I know and love! Thanks to your channel I have become really interested in visiting the nature and the culture there!
Fantastic! I'm so glad to hear that!
Congrats on the sub count! I have no doubt it will continue to steadily grow. Your content is wonderful, and your music and scenery is so peaceful. I like to put on your playlist while I’m studying Japanese!
Thank you so much!
Congratulations on 10k!! I've been a fan of your videos for a while now and you've always been such a joy to watch. A true little happy moment. Thank you for all you do. May your hike to 20k be a smooth one!
Thank you so much!!
@@GoNorthJapan That's awesome. As I read through the volumes I noticed how much I'd been missing out on his imagery.
Fantastic!
I like how eloquent you are, Quinlan!
Really? Thank you!
Congratulations on 10k! Big wife and I are heading your way next month. Will use your videos to plan my trip. Thank you
Fantastic!
glad i could be a part of it!
Really like your vids Quinlan, unique, interesting and well edited.
Also, I keep forgetting to mention this on each of your videos -- the beginning when you map out the trail is super useful and really cool visually!
Thank you so much!!
Congrats! You are doing great! Your channel is really amazing
wishing for 100k soon. 😊😊
Huge congrats to one of my favorite RUclipsr.
Thank you!!
Good milestone. Keep it up.
Your videos are awesome, Congrats to 10k.
Thank you! And great questions! I'll address them in a Q&A video!
based in toei aichi, find yr video very moving, honest, and inspiring in your journey and mission. sending great respect and thanks for your message, passion and attention to detail. we need to get this great lands out to the greater world. hope to learn more from yr channel how i can also do similar....
Thanks!
Thank you! And thanks for all the great questions! I'll use them for the Q&A!
Congratulations! Well deserved :)
Congratulations 🎉
