Remember going to the drive-in as a kid and the thrill of watching those epic westerns splashing color all over the screen accompanied by awesome soundtracks like this one!
One of the best movies of the Duke. Sure miss him. We need more like him but very few if any coming along like him. Certainly not in Hollywood. I am an old guy who remembers back when Hollywood was patriotic. Not like now.
I saw this film on it's first run at a kiddie matinee in Beaumont, Texas. I can still hear the cheering when Wayne's huge image appeared on the screen!
This was the last film directed by Michael Curtiz who was seriously ill with cancer, during much of the shooting, John Wayne took over direction of the film, and when it was completed, he told the studio that he did not want credit as co-director, and insisted that Curtiz's name alone appear as director. First film I ever saw at the Cinema/Flicks and it was at the Elephant & Castle Trocadro (that was in South London, U.K.) so I will always have an affection for the film.

Lots of people have negative things to say about John Wayne. I don't. I respect him for many things. He was a famous actor who loved the country that made him famous. Appreciation fro America, huh? What a novel concept. Now as an actor, I noticed that Wayne never minded getting punched in all his movies. Ever notice that/ He didn't mind taking a few shots as well as giving them-unlike today's pretty boy stars who have to act all tough and never take a punch themselves. Also, Wayne didn't mind letting his costars have some good lines as well. He was big enough to stand aside and let others share some good scenes.
Stuart Whitman, who later had his own western show called Cimarron Strip. Too bad only lasted one season, I thought it was pretty good. He played a marshal.
This was a really "fun" John Wayne movie!!! Duke ended up directing quite a bit of the movie because Michael Curtiz was dying and unable to work. Stuart Whitman and Patrick Wayne were SO handsome!!!!!
Thanks so much for putting these awesome John Wayne compilations out! Our family loves John Wayne and we really enjoy these. Would you ever consider doing one with the opening/closing credits of Hondo, John Wayne 1953 film?
Sure, the plot had big holes in it. So what? It didn't stop the Duke any more than it did Schwarzenegger. I saw it first run at a Saturday kids' feature in Texas. I can still hear the wild cheering when Wayne appeared- tall in the saddle!
I alwayss loved this scene leading on from the credits. But to me as someone raced in Germany COMMANCHEROS is the most KARL MAY like original American OLD WEST MOVIE I have ever seen in my life
One of John Wayne's best, and that is saying something. The characters are all so well rounded, including the villains. The only problem with it is the anachronisms, the breech loading, multishot weapons, and the reference to Yuma territorial prison. This is the 1830s, not the 1870s.
Grande!!! actor favorito. Esta película tiene un error de fechas. El duelo es en 1843 y el vestuario, el armamento, resto de la pelicula, incluidos los Winchester y los Colts son de 30 años mas tarde.
John Wayne is a great movie star he is a legend in movie industry however you have to watch him with his original voice , dublications kills the İmage.
No me canso de verla . Para mí está y la trilogía Río ,Chisum , Fort apache ,la Diligencia y el Alamo son sus mejores películas. Por cierto ¿ Es posible el subirls completa en Español ?
I'm going to be so hated for pointing this out but the action of this film takes place in 1843 before Texas is annexed into the United States, at 0:41 Wayne is holding a colt 45 Peacemaker, which was not issued until 1872. Nearly 30 years into the future. And at 1:00 he is obviously wielding a Winchester Lever Action carbine, not sure which model, but again such a weapon did not exist within this time period. And at 1:08 he appears to be sharing the frame with an 1892 Winchester Carbine, etc. I'm sorry, but I have great difficulty over looking glaring historical inaccuracies when it comes to firearms. Yeah I know, I'm a regular Cliff Clavin. Nevertheless, Wayne was a wonderful actor and human being. I'm sure he knew the dates and time periods of these weapons, but in that day such inaccuracies were not deemed important in the movies. I blame the producers. Unless Wayne was one of them. Then I give him a pass.
+packjim56 : Oh dear me packjim56 -- who cares about the guns, it is the movie/action and some humour and of course great theme music. Such a great movie loved it and they could have had "Water Pistols" for I care. :-)
+pixi loc btw in a movie which Wayne directed and produced one year earlier than this one, "The Alamo", had appropriate armament depicted for it's time period, 1836. So the man had a working knowledge of historical accuracy. Whoops, there I go being Cliff Claven again. I will stifle myself now.
I would've pointed that out myself if I had known more about guns. Nevertheless, it's a highly enjoyable movie. I saw it sitting on the front row back in the sixties.

Ina Balin was one of the most stunning women who ever lived. Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful, and such a shame she died so young.
Agree 100% That opening with her in that blue dress still gives me the "chills"
I just love this movie
he made loads of great movies throughout the sixties
Heck, he made loads of great movies in the fifties and forties as well!
@@DoubleDogDare54 I was about to say. Most of my favorites are from the forties.

Alongside the " Big County" one of the best western scores
You are most certainly correct.
i've always thought the train robbers hade a damn good score though that's me
I always like the score from "The Undefeated". The movie ever got much attention, but I liked the movie and the score.
Add the Magnificent Seven soundtrack and you have three Aces.

On par with the most high spirited tunes by any other composer.
