It says it's the "urban redevelopment plan" so I'm assuming this is the past too, and the trailer looked "futuristic" because it's the blueprint of what Lumiose City will eventually become
The story of Legends Arceus is largely based on the Japanese colonization of Hokkaido that started in 1869. Between 1853 and 1870 Paris was undergoing a renovation project commissioned by Napoleon III, so I'd say that Legends Z-A is most likely supposed to be contemporaneous with the first Legends game. The Eiffel Tower was not built until 1889, but that's not too much later and there's no reason for the games to adhere to our version of history exactly (there was also not a giant death laser built in France 3000 years ago).
It's funny what PLA used from real history and what was played around with (Laventon's portable camera wouldn't be a thing until the 1920s, Cogita's dress wouldn't be the style until the 1890s)
Given that the Eiffel Tower was, essentially, just built to be a display piece, I don't see any reason why its construction can't be worked into the story as "a testament to the bond between Humans and Pokemon" or something similar
As a French person (France is the inspiration for Kalos), the pretty obvious thing that comes to mind is Paris' urban development plan under Haussmann in the 19th century. It's what gave Paris its famous aesthetic, and it's exactly the type of architecture that the teaser is showing off It's also the century of the World Fair that came with the construction of the Eiffel tower So for me it's pretty obvious that the game still happens in the past, as people mentioned, the futuristic lines and all that could just be interpreted as a blue print The 19th century also happens to line up with Arceus' time frame.
I wonder if Lysson's ancestor will represent Napoleón or Haussman in this story. He wanted to build a beautiful world so I imagine that has to be a family thing.
@@qwerttzizzi It does fit with irl history Arceus is based on Japan's expansionism towards Hokkaido (Hisui/Sinnoh) which happened around the 19th century as well. It's just that, since it's about settlers coming into a new territory, of course the territory is not as developed If they showed Kanto around the same time as Hisui, it would be much more populated and developed If you look at Arceus closely, you can notice they do have something around 19th century tech (look at the pokeball and the main building for example)
I like that idea, I just don’t get how Megas fit into the story then… in XY and ORAS they’re claiming Mega evolution is a new phenomenon, but if these games take place just about 150 years ago, how can they say they didn’t know mega evolution existed in XY
- Pokémon Z at long last - Megas are back - new Legends game - 2025. Not rushed for holiday sales. This may be one of the best, most fan-rewarding decisions Game Freak ever made.
For all we know, the Pokemon company might have just started to work on the game within the past couple months and it could be released in the 1st quarter of 2025. Just pointing out that from how little we know currently, it absolutely could still be a heavily rushed out game.
@@warioscousinThat would make sense since the Talonflame in the beginning of the trailer de-evolves into its basic form (don’t remember the name). Maybe de-evolution will be a core gameplay mechanic?
I have a guess that it looks virtual in the trailer because the city doesn't exist yet, it's like the blueprints for the city plans. There will be undeveloped areas in this older city and pokemon will live there, maybe?
That would be sick! Hiring different Pokémon and unlocking new ones as your level grows, allowing you to build different structures and such...that's honestly a brilliant idea!
I'm not convinced that ISNT what the game is about tbh. The redevelopment plan is the first and last thing in the teaser so thats probably our equivalent of the Galaxy Expedition Team in PLA. The futuristic lights in the teaser might even be representing blueprints rather than lights. If we're also sticking with events in the same era as PLA there was a massive campaign in Paris (where Lumiose is based on) to redesign the city and modernize/expand it so that's very possibly the theme of the setting.
I find it kind of cute that Arlo was waiting for the title meanwhile other hardcore fans picked up on the Pyroars and Aegislash/Sylveon battle indicating it was in Kalos, even with the big Lumiose Tower.
I fucking CAME when I saw Aegislash. He was dropped in gen 9, and it infuriated me to the point of not buying the game, at all. He was always a pokemon that was undermined by GF. Seeing him back made my heart leap. I just question why someone is battling it with a Sylveon.
I think the presentation is less to do with it being futurtistic, but rather we are seeing the blueprints for the city. So what we are seeing is that we will be instrumental, in the not too distant past, in building Lumiose City.
I'm so glad we're getting another Legwnds game. And I'm glad it's going back to gen 6. It's like the Pokémon Z we never got. I'm glad they aren't rushing it to the 2024 Holiday season. I hope they give it the time it needs.
I have a theory that since ZA takes place “entirely within Lumiose City”, it could be the player character works on expanding the already massive city into the rest of the kalos region. It would explain how exploration could work, and could allow for customization as far as how the city is expanded.
And tbh we haven't seen any gameplay but if it does just takes place in the city I'll be a bit disappointed since it was fun playing legends arceus due to the open world part but again we have to wait until we see official gameplay
@@TheChildofAuraReborn I don't think so, no, it's like how YuGiOh has both Master Duel (which is much more like the IRL game) and Duel Links, which is a quicker, more new player friendly version
Actually it seems more like Duel Links if a comparison was to be made Duel Links was really popular when it came out and still kind of is so it seems like this might be just like that
my early impression is that it will have both a future and a past. Z-A implies starting at the end and returning to the beginning. we also get the high tech renders and the old school sketches. that's about the only details that stick out. hoping for more in the future.
Time travel doesn't really make sense for gen 6 The Z-A is more likely a reference to big man, AZ, at the end of the X and Y story. He's going to be involved I imagine.
Imagine you start by visiting sites of the great war in the present, then later on travel back in time to when the great war was going on. Maybe even altering the past to save the future.
@@peco595 the ZA is obviously a reference to AZ but even that backs up the time travel theory. If the two games are called pokemon Z and pokemon A and they wanted to emphasize the reference to AZ, they'd be marketing the games as Pokemon A-Z not Z-A. The Z-A indicates that it's like AZ but backwards. Also keep in mind the connotation of the hyphen. A-Z is often read as "A to Z," a sequential order going forward, so Z-A would be the opposite of that, going in the opposite sequence of events
I think the thing I am most excited about with this game is that it's releasing in 2025 rather than shoving it out this year. Maybe this means the game can actually be finished and have decent performance rather than just pushed out to have a release every year.
It's very rare that they've put out a game "every year". I genuinely don't know why this keeps being repeated so much. A two year gap is far more typical.
@@BJGvideos Since 2016 there has been a release (mainline/remake/DLC) every year. While DLC releases are smaller it was likely done so they could have something to fill a year between games (with the added money generated being a nice bonus for them).
Personally I think this takes place in Kalos 1850s-1870s. I took a modern art history course and we talked about how Paris went through a redevelopment plan during this period. It was created by Haussmann and his plan reshaped Paris to what it is today. Plus, Legends Arceus takes place in Sinnoh/Hokkaido in the late 1800s and takes a lot of historical notes from the period. So I think this game will be the same. I'm super excited to see what we get!
A big part of Pokemon X&Y's story was a Pokemon war that happened in the past and this part of the story was never fully finished so I think it completely makes sense for this to be revisited as it's such a big part of Kalos's past. Also the 2025 thing is actually a good thing as normally we get a game every year so hopefully it means they are spending more time on it and we can actually have a polished game...
@@BJGvideos with the exception of 2015 we’ve had new playable content in the form of a game or dlc every year for 12 years. and they planned on releasing a game for 2015 too

@@yennikarual I didn't copy paste anything. I repeated the same sentiment because it's true. The idea is that somehow they release new GAMES every year and again, that isn't the case.
@@MK73DSWe actually do, there are empty slots in the Pokémon Bank that suggests two entries between Pokémon ORAS and SM. And they also found their codename being KALOS RESERVE, so Z was meant from the start.
@@MK73DSit never did but clearly Nintendo named it this way as a nod to the fan theories behind it. Surely they’d just have said legends: Zygarde otherwise
I'm pretty sure the blue outline style in the trailer is supposed to evoke the style of blueprints/building plans (while also being easy to look at, using blue with white lines instead of the black bg/blue lines would've been to hard to see in motion). Since Kalos is based on France and Lumiose City is based on Paris (note the huge eiffel-esque tower in the center), personally I believe its supposed to be a reference to the modern renovation of Paris in the mid 1800s, which would put it around the same time period as Legends Arceus. Which means we might see some returning characters from PLA.
@@Jelliott_ssbthat would definitely be best case scenario but considering legends Arceus came out randomly in January, it could very well be early next year
It’s Game Freak. They’ll probably release it on January 2025 so they can say they didn’t release a mainline game this year yet still be able to rush it
We don't actually yet know what Pokemon Legends IS. We only had one game in the series so far, and every game could be different, centred around one legendary pokemon and their mythology, with slightly different gameplay to the main series. So we might not get an open world this time.
If you look at their last few games, gamefreak seems to be way better at making cities and other settled areas look nice, compared to more open and natural landscapes. So this might be a win lol.
I saw someone point out that if Lumiose City = Paris and we assume Legends Arceus is roughly analagous to the mid-late 1800s, it will probably be the Pokemon equivalent to the massive renovations Paris went under
I think it's like Arceus and set when Lumios is being built. Lumios is basically in the centre of the map in X and Y so I think it's the base city like Jubilife in Arceus.
@@Aldrnari956 A game being developed for a stronger system doesn't mean the devs will suddenly just get better at making games. It's an unfortunate truth
@@hallowvenixya9215 I didn’t say they would. I said that it would help because their poor optimization hampered S&V. More power would have helped to hide that poor optimization.
I'd read Pokemon Z-A as ZetA A closed city can mean more enclosed areas, with less distant stuff to render, so *maybe* better performance or more detailed smaller play areas?
When I played pokemon X and Y I HATED Lumiose City because I kept getting lost HAHAHA. So when I saw the map I KNEW WHAT IT WAS. I’m excited for a new Legends game. I really did enjoy Arceus.
I see this as a blueprint graphic since the folder states plans for a redevelopment and assuming this takes place after Legends: Arceus it's a redevelopment of a city for Pokemon and humans to live together, because if you remember in the last game people were afraid of Pokemon until you came around and maybe this game tells a story of the relationship between Pokemon and humans and how people go about living with them
I'm also very pleased! It seems like they'll use legends to realize their weirder, not too safe ideas they apparently can't afford to put in the mainline :-D good hopes for this new one despite knowing nothing 😅
You know, I was thinking the other day that the Pokemon War hinted at in the backstory of X and Y would make an interesting setting for a Legends-Style game. That doesn't seem like what we're getting, but I'm glad Gen 6 is getting it's due, highly underrated Gen imo
With the limited info we have right now, here’s my guess as to how the game will go: Lumiose City is being built. Pokémon and people haven’t fully come to coexist yet, but are further along than Hisui was. You are either from the city or are isekaied there again, and are tasked by someone (maybe Clemont’s ancestor?) to help catch Pokémon to help with developing the city. Dex entries are as detailed as they were in PLA but more focused on how they could help with construction or assist in running businesses or something. Like the Machop line could help with manual labor, but Dedenne could help with powering buildings’ light or heat or equipment. Maybe developing the city is causing nature to become imbalanced and it’s upsetting Zygarde? We don’t have much info yet, but this is my current guess. We’ll hafta wait til further news is released to see how accurate this is
im so unreasonably hyped for this game. really hoping they pull through on the interesting Themes Potential since we're finally getting a game based on Zygarde, protector of the ecosystem, who keeps the pokemon of life and death in check, and in the same game we're doing urban redevelopment of a major metropolitan area. they can do so much stuff with like. expanding the city ending up being at the expense of the surrounding natural ecosystem and then that gets zygarde angry
I'm right there with you Arlo, I am absolutely thrilled that we're getting legends 2! Plus I personally really like gen 6 since it was that gen that got me back into Pokémon!
I'm glad that those who wanted a new Legends game are getting a new one. I'm a bit confused on why the old Gameboy, Color and Advance mainline Pokemon games still aren't on Nintendo Switch Online, but I'm glad that those who wanted a new Legends game are getting a new one.
They probably aren’t on Online because they wouldn’t have a way to transfer from the Online GB emulators to Home. That’s the only thing I can really think of.
@StubzTurner more than likely because of the Game Corner. Gambling laws in the EU mean that either it would have to be released everywhere but Europe (a PR nightmare), a higher age rating (don't want to tarnish the child-friendly brand) or they would have to censor a European release (another PR nightmare). My guess is they'd rather just not release it.
In the trailer it says lumiose city urban redevelopment plan, so presumably it takes place in the past before the city was built, just like arceus had an early version of jubilife city, and you'll see it being built up throughout the game. The digital-looking segment was probably some sort of blueprints for how the city will be. Also, I find it very hard to believe that the whole thing takes place in the city, and it probably just acts as a hub kind of like jubilife village in arceus.
The thing I'm worried about now is that "Legends" as a sub category of pokemon game might actually refer to the broad concept of "expanding lore about the region" rather than meaning itll be the same gameplay loop like Arceus was. Perhaps Z-A is gonna be like a town building game and not be anything like Arceus. Change is nice, but shaking it up that much seems like a huge shift. Staying cautiously optimistic about what Z-A will offer
Yeah I agree, while a town management game would be fun I'd hope the legends arceus style gameplay would stick more, because It just felt great to play and catching pokemon never was as fun as just going metal gear primate on them, hiding in bushes and throwing a heavy ball in the back of an Alpha to start running like hell because It didn't work
Also I theorise we could see a finished Synchromachine. Replacing HMs and having the ability to use our Pokémon and their powers around the city. Like a Greninja doing the Spiderman from building to building.
Legends is definitely a step in the right direction for the series. It feels like how the game should play, and PLA was the best game I’ve played since gen 5. Very excited for this especially for what the aspect of having the entire game taking place in just the city, cool to see what they’ll do with that
In case people weren't aware, there is a character from X and Y named "AZ." He is responsible for firing an ancient weapon in the distant past that took the lives of countless pokemon. The firing of said weapon resulted in the emergence of Mega Evolutions and cursed AZ with immortality, allowing the player character to meet him directly. The Z in the new game's title bears the texture of Zygarde, while the A bears the texture of the Ancient Weapon. With this in mind, I believe Legends Z-A will revolve around the conflict between AZ and Zygarde involving the Ancient Weapon.
It should be noted that the Pokémon anime did get the Z treatment during the Kalos seasons. It was first called Pokémon the Series XY, before getting the Z later on. It took years for us to get a Pokémon Z that develops the backstory of Kalos, but it's finally happening in the form of a Legends game! Amazing!
This was my first hype in a long time. This is it, this is where a lot of us fans who were disappointed many times, will pay attention to because Legends was proven different at least. A little hope for the future. We'll see
I just find it hilarious that Arlo is the only one who didnt go berserk at the new game reveal. For context Pokemon Z has been one of the most hyped Pokemon games for nearly 10 years at this point (it was originally in development for the 3DS but got cancelled), its just that no one expected to actually see it until years after the inevitable Unova remakes.
It’s honestly crazy; I thought they’d announce Let’s Go Johtoh, so getting a follow up to Gen 6 after all this time is nuts. Especially for all the the fans of that gen
Cause we know Game Freak now. They’re a lazy developer who will probably rush this game (I still maintain it comes out January ‘25) and make a quick buck
@Linklex7 Hasn't it been very thoroughly established that it's not their level of effort that's lacking (that is to say, laziness) but rather that they do extreme crunch time to release a new game every year without a large enough team to make that a good idea? It seems to me like they're actually listening for this one. - return to Legends, the clear fan-favorite of the last few gens - no 2023 game - no 2024 game It's looking like gen 9 will only have two games in it, and if that's so, that points to the idea that they're not crunching so hard anymore. Could Legends Z release and run at 20fps? Sure, that possibility is on the table. But it's not a foregone conclusion.
@@Linklex7The game being released in january makes no sense, because if They cared so much about getting the game out as quickly as possible and cared so little about actually releasing it finished, why release it in january when they can instead release it in November or december, which is the best time to release a new game for the holidays? If they were to release it early in 2025, it being released in something like May or something makes more sense.
I’m happy this exists, but I’ve gotta admit I was hoping the next Legends game would be about Kyurem and the backstory of Black & White. Hope this doesn’t mean that won’t be happening someday.
This game's existence tells us they're committed to making Legends a series (something that can't currently be said for Let's Go), so that just gives me more hope for additional games down the line based on other generations.
@@BlueSparxLPs Yeah, I was just nervous since Game Freak has historically done their remakes etc. in release order. Going from Sinnoh to Kalos skips Unova, but I suppose we have no evidence that GF will follow release order for the Legends games.
@@BlueSparxLPs Let's go was really an experiment title for the mainline series from what I gather while legends was actively a side game but treated more as mainline than let's go ever was lol
@@flyingstonemon3564GF stated intent to potentially make Let's Go a series as well if they were satisfied with the reception. The point I was making was that Let's Go seemingly failed to meet the criteria they were looking for, but Legends has.
This is gonna be zygarde focused. Looking at the Z and the font, it’s basically a third version for pokemon x and y, referencing the xyz anime which was one of the best seasons which means nothing for the game but is cool
it will also probably feature a new legendary that looks like an upside down V. since the kalos legendaries are based on norse mythology and zygarde and its 3 forms are based off of lokis 3 children, this other counterpart could have something to do with thors children? i dunno, plenty of crazy theories abound.
@@Skifreak-nv7ej I doubt there’ll be any new pokemon, there wasn’t in the previous legends game. There’s already a third version pokemon in zygarde. The box legendaries will probably come back too as well as a couple other legendaries. Team flare might be involved. It’s likely going to be the same groundwork as arceus but with quality of life features and more immersion. Arceus felt a bit clunky at times with strange movement interactions with slopes and simple pokemon ai. Zelda’s open world was a lot better so it might take more from it.
@@ThisWillCharacter well this game will only take place in one city, so it probably will be nothing like BOTW. also, along with multiple new evolutions to old pokemon in legend: arceus, there was a new legendary enamorus. considering that each main legendary in kalos is based off a letter, and now there is a fourth letter with a distinct pattern on it, it is fair to say it is a new legendary.
@@Skifreak-nv7ej yeah possibly a new legendary or maybe a new zygarde form (which would be a 4th I think). I think u missed my zelda point tho, I’m talking about the fluidity of movement. Mechanics. It felt a lot less clunky than the movement and hitboxes in legends even tho it seemed to be based off of the zelda movement system including (I think) a hidden stamina where after running for a while, it would stop and trying to run again would only give a second or two. Personally I would find a fleshed out restructured lumiose city to the broken up areas of arceus where u couldn’t just walk between the areas
Pokemon Z is basically the Metroid: Dread of the Pokemon fandom. A game that everyone wanted, that everyone expected, but just...never happened for some reason. Also, it coming out in 2025 is a BIG DEAL. this might be a sign that Game Freak has ACTUALLY heard us and is taking their time so they don't have to rush the game! This is huge!
See, I think this game will take place in the past. The text reads this is an "urban redevelopment plan" for Lumiose City with a vision of " coexistence between people and Pokemon" (very PLA phrase). The city already exists and serves that purpose in X/Y, which leads me to conclude this is the past - though perhaps a more recent past than PLA. The trailer is showing us inside the "blueprint" of the city plan, hence the VR-like environment. But I think it's just a fanciful representation of the urban planning/architectural "blueprint", a concept that has existed since the 19th century.
Funny how in Arceus, we were in the open fields and nature of the land, but we were building a small village that became a community/town. In ZA, it seems we’re in a full-blown city, and there’s not much of the open-nature experience to be seen, unless you could come kind of park.
I think this is a rebuilding Lumiose City into the version from X and Y. We start out from a drawing concept into a virtual view back into the city planning drawing plan. It plays in the past as the architecture shows. The virtual scenery is what the people envision and i assume we start in a generic small village and slowly help building up the entire town by using our Pokémon to help people.
Because of the urban development theme I think the futuristic digital like graphics of the city we see might actually be blueprints? Like maybe the city is build over the the course of the game and something like a 3d blueprint vision shows a preview of what will be build.
I can see them pull a fast one and say it all takes place in "Lumiose City" but the city is just a small town or is slowly being constructed. So there's still massive areas of undeveloped land for pokémon to roam. Lumiose was built for the 3DS as three-ish major towns(a North and South half of the border, and then the center), so it makes sense that it was scaled down and made to seem smaller. Especially sharing space with the rest of the region with other routes and towns. Now it's just a single city getting full fat console power. They definitely have the chance to make the city FEEL like a full city. Not just the small "cities" that Scarlet and Violet have where it's just a few buildings clumped together in the middle of a giant empty feel. They can make a proper city I'm super excited to see this game. My first proper pokémon game was XY so it's so cool that not only do we get a long awaited """continuation,""" it's finally my turn to get a game that appeals to my nostalgia
I love the contrast of ARLO’S reaction to everyone else. Everyone is freakin out when the tower is shown meanwhile Arlo doesn’t even know what a lumios is 😂😂
I definitely appreciate how different Legends Z-A already looks from expectations. It’s set in a city and it’s not Unova, we really can’t know what to expect from the Legends series
Man - I know it would never happen but if they spaced out a Mainline Game, then 2 years later a Legends game.....so that we could essentially have a each set of new games every 4 years, it would be just a perfect perfect balance of anticipation, and giving the developers enough time to put out high quality games. Again, it would never happen, but allowing us to actually miss pokemon would be a really good thing. That said Im soooo ready for the Legends line and agree w Arlo - its just the best of what Pokemon has to offer.
TCG Pocket looks pretty interesting and I want to get into it, but New LEGENDS?.. can't wait! Totally happy with that! I had so much fun with PLA so I wanted a new Legends game haha! Loved the Sycamore music you put in the back btw Arlo! One of THE best themes in the series imo! 💚
The fact that they are making these "Legends" games as opposed to remakes is amazing. It gives new fans the opportunity to catch and experience the pokemon from that gen without it being a disappointing remake for old fans. Truly brilliant.
I kinda always hoped that the Legends style wasn't just meant for the past but more like a way for Gamefreak to explore diffrent ideas and stories in the pokemon world without having to follow the basic formula
I'm very worried about this game. Considering Pokemon's track record, I have almost no faith that they can make a good open world urban environment. Hopefully they hire some new people that have experience with making good cities
I'm just hoping this legends is actually a finished product. And that there's more content than LA. HATED grinding out the Pokedex for hundreds of hours
And they're bringing back MEGAS!! 🤯🤯🤯 I'm excited to see the map as well, I'm just so intrigued. I haven't got the last few pokemon games but I for sure am getting this one.
I totally agree with you Arlo - I can NOT understand why people seem to gloss over PL:A. It's such a fantastic game. My only theory was that the game didn't have enough issues to stay relevant in the negative public conscience, so people just moved onto the next thing (especially because gen9 came out later the same year) Ignoring the obvious graphical limitations proudly on display in the environments, the game really was incredibly well polished for a Pokemon game. Animations and effects looked good, wild pokemon really had personality, and the overall movement/controls felt concise. (Just look at the complexity of the race/obstacle course missions in PLA and compare it to the recent "race" in the Indigo Disk) To me, it was very evident that for once, a lot of passion went into a Pokemon game, and that's what I want out of Legends I want new stories in old regions, with mechanics and a world that's crafted with love and passion.
After Sword & Shield I lost interest in keeping up with the games, but a friend got me into Scarlet & Violet and I had a blast. I just started playing Legends Arceus recently and now I'm a little sad that I've slept on this title for so long. The graphics don't bother me in either game; the important part is they're fun. I think you're on to something with the pokemon grassroota hype cycle being too focused on flaws. The pokemon company made it too easy to get mad at them over the years, though.
Lumiouse is Paris, so I can see it being big enough. I will be bummed if it doesn't take place in the past; Kalos has such an interesting history. Also it's a travesty we didn't get Pokemon Z
when I saw pokemon legends ZA I was literally about to cry, Pokemon X and Y was my childhood. Kalos is my favourite region, and legends arceus is my favourite format of game. Im so excited! This is to good to be true!
Glad we’re getting a new Legends game but I’m still disappointed that it’s not a Johto setting that could explore things like the creation of the Lake of Rage and Sprout Tower, and/or the history of the Ruins of Alph and the Ecruteak City towers.
Im really excited for Legends Z-A. Pokemon X Y was like a resurgence for Pokemon back in the day. The first main games in 3D, introduction of the first new battle mechanic in terms of Mega Evolution. The absolute hype around Gen 6 was amazing and I can’t wait to go back to Kalos
@@ShiftarusThat's how I feel. A lot of people say that generation 6 was when Pokémon started getting bad, but I'm gonna be honest, I thought generation 6 was amazing, and it actually going downhill during the switch makes more sense because they're used to making hand held games, so a lot of these main console games felt half baked and unfinished and the only reason the Gen 6 was the last good generation and not 7 is that generation 7 just happened to be mediocre.
I'm personally HYPED that its not coming this year. That's _huge_ to me, honestly... They almost always rush their games, leading to them being unpolished and buggy, but this time they're putting in an entire extra year of development it seems. I am definitely looking forward to this! :3
As someone who's favorite Pokemon games are X and Y, seeing the little glimpses of Gen 6 only Pokemon told me right from the start of the trailer that it could be Pokemon Z. And then it was!! I've been wanting a new Pokemon Kalos game for so long... I was freaking out throughout the whole entire trailer lol
I love to see Arlo reaction of just not getting ANYTHING what's being shown xD They were clearly teasing for the "real fans" (censoring "lumiose" and showing megas at the end), but all there was to make Arlo happy was just one word: "Legends" xD 10/10 reaction
It says it's the "urban redevelopment plan" so I'm assuming this is the past too, and the trailer looked "futuristic" because it's the blueprint of what Lumiose City will eventually become
Yeah that makes a lot of sense, that's got to be it. Would even be cool if there were some back and forth time travel shenanigans or something.
@@ArloStuffWould be cool to see if they go all the way back to the war

As a French person (France is the inspiration for Kalos), the pretty obvious thing that comes to mind is Paris' urban development plan under Haussmann in the 19th century.
It's what gave Paris its famous aesthetic, and it's exactly the type of architecture that the teaser is showing off
It's also the century of the World Fair that came with the construction of the Eiffel tower
So for me it's pretty obvious that the game still happens in the past, as people mentioned, the futuristic lines and all that could just be interpreted as a blue print
The 19th century also happens to line up with Arceus' time frame.
I wonder if Lysson's ancestor will represent Napoleón or Haussman in this story. He wanted to build a beautiful world so I imagine that has to be a family thing.
100% agree
So Arceus is still village and old looking while Z-A has already a big city?
@@qwerttzizzi
It does fit with irl history
Arceus is based on Japan's expansionism towards Hokkaido (Hisui/Sinnoh) which happened around the 19th century as well.
It's just that, since it's about settlers coming into a new territory, of course the territory is not as developed
If they showed Kanto around the same time as Hisui, it would be much more populated and developed
If you look at Arceus closely, you can notice they do have something around 19th century tech (look at the pokeball and the main building for example)
I like that idea, I just don’t get how Megas fit into the story then… in XY and ORAS they’re claiming Mega evolution is a new phenomenon, but if these games take place just about 150 years ago, how can they say they didn’t know mega evolution existed in XY

- Megas are back
- new Legends game

For all we know, the Pokemon company might have just started to work on the game within the past couple months and it could be released in the 1st quarter of 2025. Just pointing out that from how little we know currently, it absolutely could still be a heavily rushed out game.
These are some low expectations. We don't even know what this game looks like.

XYZ-A as if you were finishing something and starting over, a transition
This is actually really really smart.
That was my interpretation of the title also.
Its a nice title because it has quite a few different meanings and is catchy
My interpretation is that it's "Z to A" like rewinding time, instead of going from A to Z
@@warioscousinThat would make sense since the Talonflame in the beginning of the trailer de-evolves into its basic form (don’t remember the name). Maybe de-evolution will be a core gameplay mechanic?
That's clever if intentional but I feel like it's probably just an AZ reference
Also, notice that the “A” looks a lot like the Ultimate Weapon in the AZ flashback from XY 👀
I thought it was AZ’s legs and shoes lol
We might be getting AZs Floette after all.
I have a guess that it looks virtual in the trailer because the city doesn't exist yet, it's like the blueprints for the city plans. There will be undeveloped areas in this older city and pokemon will live there, maybe?
I wholeheartedly thought we were getting a city development spin off game lol
I actually wouldn’t mind that,
Now I want that ahhhh
That would be sick! Hiring different Pokémon and unlocking new ones as your level grows, allowing you to build different structures and such...that's honestly a brilliant idea!
ive been dreaming about a rollercoaster tycoon style pokemon game where you design and manage a safari zone
@hydrogen-8 duuuuude I want that so bad now, I LOVED Zoo Tycoon 😁
I find it kind of cute that Arlo was waiting for the title meanwhile other hardcore fans picked up on the Pyroars and Aegislash/Sylveon battle indicating it was in Kalos, even with the big Lumiose Tower.
I fucking CAME when I saw Aegislash. He was dropped in gen 9, and it infuriated me to the point of not buying the game, at all. He was always a pokemon that was undermined by GF. Seeing him back made my heart leap. I just question why someone is battling it with a Sylveon.

my early impression is that it will have both a future and a past. Z-A implies starting at the end and returning to the beginning. we also get the high tech renders and the old school sketches. that's about the only details that stick out. hoping for more in the future.
Time travel doesn't really make sense for gen 6
The Z-A is more likely a reference to big man, AZ, at the end of the X and Y story.

It was created by Haussmann and his plan reshaped Paris to what it is today. Plus, Legends Arceus takes place in Sinnoh/Hokkaido in the late 1800s and takes a lot of historical notes from the period. So I think this game will be the same. I'm super excited to see what we get!

If you look at their last few games, gamefreak seems to be way better at making cities and other settled areas look nice, compared to more open and natural landscapes. So this might be a win lol.

Nobody expects the FRENCH inquisition.
Very excited for this especially for what the aspect of having the entire game taking place in just the city, cool to see what they’ll do with that
Mega Evolution babyyyyyyy
Worse gimmick of the lot
In case people weren't aware, there is a character from X and Y named "AZ."
He is responsible for firing an ancient weapon in the distant past that took the lives of countless pokemon.
5:52 Everybody's reaction to the title
It should be noted that the Pokémon anime did get the Z treatment during the Kalos seasons. It was first called Pokémon the Series XY, before getting the Z later on.

@@Linklex7The game being released in january makes no sense, because if They cared so much about getting the game out as quickly as possible and cared so little about actually releasing it finished, why release it in january when they can instead release it in November or december, which is the best time to release a new game for the holidays? See, I think this game will take place in the past. The text reads this is an "urban redevelopment plan" for Lumiose City with a vision of " coexistence between people and Pokemon" (very PLA phrase). The city already exists and serves that purpose in X/Y, which leads me to conclude this is the past - though perhaps a more recent past than PLA.
The trailer is showing us inside the "blueprint" of the city plan, hence the VR-like environment. But I think it's just a fanciful representation of the urban planning/architectural "blueprint", a concept that has existed since the 19th century.

They can make a proper city
I'm super excited to see this game.
Legends fans, we're so freaking back
Man - I know it would never happen but if they spaced out a Mainline Game, then 2 years later a Legends game.....so that we could essentially have a each set of new games every 4 years, it would be just a perfect perfect balance of anticipation, and giving the developers enough time to put out high quality games.
As someone who was obsessed with the idea of Pokémon Z as a teenager. It’s really cool to see it now become real all these years later.
I'm excited to see the map as well, I'm just so intrigued. I haven't got the last few pokemon games but I for sure am getting this one.
I totally agree with you Arlo - I can NOT understand why people seem to gloss over PL:A. It's such a fantastic game.
My only theory was that the game didn't have enough issues to stay relevant in the negative public conscience, so people just moved onto the next thing (especially because gen9 came out later the same year)
Ignoring the obvious graphical limitations proudly on display in the environments, the game really was incredibly well polished for a Pokemon game. Animations and effects looked good, wild pokemon really had personality, and the overall movement/controls felt concise. (Just look at the complexity of the race/obstacle course missions in PLA and compare it to the recent "race" in the Indigo Disk)
To me, it was very evident that for once, a lot of passion went into a Pokemon game, and that's what I want out of Legends
I want new stories in old regions, with mechanics and a world that's crafted with love and passion.
I like the zygarde cells spreading in the dark of the foreground of the last shot. Bubbling up and covering up the mega evolution symbol.
Lumiouse is Paris, so I can see it being big enough. I will be bummed if it doesn't take place in the past; Kalos has such an interesting history.
Also it's a travesty we didn't get Pokemon Z
I really love how this is gonna take place before the time of Lumiose City's peak. I love the effect of it basically being a schematic in the trailer
i would love for the pokemon company to surprise us with something amazing. ill keep my expectations tempered.
What's up with the disappointment in Arlo's voice when he thought it was Pokemon VR? That sounds sick af! The idea never even occured to me :O
From what I saw, a lot of the loud anti-Legends Arceus voices didn’t even play it.
Arlo, I really like your videos . Keep up the good work my friend, and I'll keep watching them.
when I saw pokemon legends ZA I was literally about to cry, Pokemon X and Y was my childhood.
I'm so glad me and arlo both went into this presents like "please be legends,, it wont be legends,,,,but pleeeaase be legends,,,"
i remember watching videos about a potential pokemon z like 10 years ago and seeing this now makes me giddy
specifically from tyranitartube if i remember correctly
Im really excited for Legends Z-A.
Pokemon X Y was like a resurgence for Pokemon back in the day. The first main games in 3D, introduction of the first new battle mechanic in terms of Mega Evolution. The absolute hype around Gen 6 was amazing and I can’t wait to go back to Kalos
X and Y was the last time I was satisfied with the release quality of a pokemon game.
Legends was fun, and S/V were neat. But both felt half baked.
Arlo starts videos like a voice note you find from a scientist in a post apocalyptic shooter
I just can't believe how a single pokemon game announcement made my day, for a change
I love to see Arlo reaction of just not getting ANYTHING what's being shown xD
They were clearly teasing for the "real fans" (censoring "lumiose" and showing megas at the end), but all there was to make Arlo happy was just one word: "Legends" xD
10/10 reaction
I really hope this is a vast dense city you can explore I love that kind of environment
