@@AGardenShed I can't help but wonder what the quick release mounts are like for weight capacity and safety. The bike is looking great Freddy. Good quality mods. I need some pannier rails for mine, I have some soft panniers but they touch the exhaust without. I’ll have to wait to save up for some aluminium loveliness hahahahah!
I've got a gen1 650 abs. Mine came with engine bars, spots, givi racks and panniers, Scott oiler, Oxford grips, mirror extenders. I've fitted off road pegs, folding tip gear lever, span adjustable clutch and brake levers, pipercross filter, up and back bar risers and +25mm dog bones. I've got the seat from a 1000 that has an inch more foam for the rider, its a bit more comfy and less cramped. It's a bit of a stretch but I ride trail bikes so a toe on the floor is enough for me. I plan to fit fork emulators, fork spings and maybe a lift kit possibly as well. I've got Anlas Capra X tyres coming tomorrow as I plan to do ride some easy tracks here in Wales and want to try them before a trip to the Picos Europa next year. I'm going to try a 16T front sprocket to gear it up slightly. I've got some enduro hand guards and Renthals bars to go on as well. I'd like to have the guards painted or dipped.
Another great "add on" worth considering is front fork brace...I have one on both my Stroms, you,ll be amazed at the difference it makes to the handling, especially cornering at low speeds they are very small money.
Just bought my 2019 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT. I did SW-Motech skidplate and crashbars, wanted the Suzuki high windshield but no longer available in Canada. Have yet to put 1 KM on bike because of the weather. Really looking forward to riding. Mirrors are a little narrow, $40 extentions were very worth it, I to like the mirrors but they do look geeky.
Those decals looks awsome on the bike. I think the pannier rack looks good on the bike, its a ADV bike so its suits it very vel. I keep mine on all the time, and they dont look as good as yours. Ride safe sir.
Did you have any trouble fitting the barkbusters on right hand side with the brake line hampering the bb clamp? I have a 2015 vstrom 1000 with brake and clutch reservoir lines in way of clamps. Would be greatful for any tips. Thanks.
could you tell me please the total width of your bars after installing the barkbusters ? I am trying to see if they are less than the suzuki ones that come on the XT. Those ones take the width to 91 cm and I would be interested if these ones are less, or more. Tnx
Nice Video, I also wish I would have had bought the quick release rails for the panniers. I have the Trekker Outback givi boxs 48ltr. I'm also looking at getting barkbusters, but not sure if I will go with brand name ones. And am very curious of the skid plate, your point about the givi being very tight to the bike and no room to clean etc. but I think the tighter givi pan may make it harder for rocks and other items to fall in and get stuck from the top. Love your video!
ColeK yeah I was tempted by the outback panniers but they make the bike a lot wider than mine. Can’t fault them well worth the money. Givi belly pan feels so flimsy in comparison. Never had issues with anything going inside the belly pan. Apart from mud.
What's the seat height with the optional low seat? Can you flat foot both feet? I'm 5'6" as well. Do you have to bend forward much to reach for the handlebar? A side view photo with you on the bike would be great help. Thanks.
chong-keng limdr 820mm. Depends on how you set the preload as that effects ride height. Yes it’s possible but I prefer it harder so it sits higher. No I’m pretty much upright.
I am 5’6” and with original seat I find that I’m on tip-toe. My local Suzuki dealership recommended that I should go for the lowering kit which is by far the cheaper and best option. This takes up to a whopping 30mm off the original height. They have even offered to fix it onto a demo bike for me to test ride, as this would be my first big bike.
OperationFoxley19441 yes. It’s part of the pannier rails. It stops the exhaust making the panniers really hot by making the gasses come out further back. Came with the pannier rail kit.
Very nicely done mate. I have the 1000 and pretty well the same accessories. May I suggest a pair of additional riding lights,so the the bloody car drivers can definitely see you, and to assist with any night riding. I also fitted a KAOKO throttle lock for my longer trips. Easy to install and it gives your throttle hand a rest. Once again, nice looking bike mate.
I have the same bike my height is 5,8 but I find the pegs are a bit high and I am cramped a bit I have brought a lowering peg kit, wonder if anyone else has felt the same way
My misses finds the standard pillion seat on my 650xt 2018 very uncomfortable, what are my options I was thinking of getting a airhawk cushion; or get a touring comfy seat which ain't cheap, or maybe just get a new misses, any advice for be great
Great video! I've got same bike, like your adds. Might want to consider the SitNFly seat cover to keep seat cool during summer months, also adds comfort. Paid $25 bucks for mine. Was curious if you had looked into the Ravetech skid plate? Thanks!
Thank you. I have seen the cool covers but never really had an issue with getting to hot or comfort. Yes I had seen it, but had the Suzuki one given too me along with the bars FOC when I bought the bike. As I didn't ride the V-Strom off-road I didn't see the need to change it. I just wanted something to protect the oil filter just incase.
Man, I broke my left hand twice in various places and it never worked very well afterwards. Three years ago I was hit by a car, I was stopped, and I got the ring finger on the same hand Amputated. It was reimplanted and is working satisfactorily. Well, I don't have any difficulty activating the V-Strom's clutch. Exercise your hand....
As an owner of three new ‘Stroms with, collectively, over 200 000 kilometers on them - ridden long and hard through many countries- I can say that the usual farkels (like mentioned here) are nice, but expensive functional modifications make the bike near useless. Nope, I didn’t “use” the wrong prefix. The ‘Strom is a great basic bike that will not let you down. To spend thousands on suspension, exhaust, and brakes is useless: if these features bother you, buy a better bike. I have better bikes, I know. Don’t ask how I know; suffice it to say if I had to run only one motorcycle that gets me away from the bad guys, it would be my ‘Strom. After over 50 years of riding, it’s really the best all-rounder I’ve owned. Oh yeah, good video. After all, it’s not about me . . . right?
I partially agree with you: good handguards, good skid plate and good crash bars are the minimum on this bike. Exhaust, new brakes etc...are useless ;)
I had a Scott Oiler V version...pain in the ass...what a mess. If one Must have one of these for extended desert running, etc., the electronic is the way to go. If you switch to a double nozzle on both sides of the sprocket, use the blue oil, and turn the flow rate down, you might find it works better. I use chain wax now that I have a center stand, much happier. I have 3" black ABS plumber pipes attached to the inside of the top rail of my panier racks with large hose clamps, screw down waterproof inspection caps on the back end, in which I carry the chain wax, rags, latex gloves and cleaning supplies, works great.
Im same your height. How is the low seat? Can you close to flat foot it now? How low did is it? How much? Where did you get it? What kind of givi top box bracket is that? Also the top box. You mentioned you want the quick release side cases, what kind are they? Thanks
Ashneel Kumar hi. I have the low seat but no I cannot flat foot it. I can get both my feed down though. Depends more on what your inside leg measurement is rather than overall height. I’m 5’6 with a 30inch inside leg.
Oslaf I had both. Airflow went on eBay and I use the xcreen. But there were two reasons for this. First was I didn’t like how big the airflow looked. The second and most important was the optimal position for the airflow meant the top sat right in my eyeline which drove me nuts. But you have to factor in the that’s down to me as I’m 5’6 with a low seat so it would sit higher. I’m one of the few that doesn’t like the airflow. Most people seem happy with them. In my experience they both perform just as well as each or her.
A Garden Shed thanks for the answer. I'm 5'10 with normal seat so I'll try the Givi first. I guess you have to try these things to see what works for you.
Hi, just wanted to know about low seat. Is it really good. Even I am 5 feet 6 inch and I also own v-strom 650 2019. Will it help me get more confidence on controlling the bike on low speed? If possible can you make a video of low seat separately??
Hi. Yes it is im 5'6 with a 30 inch inseam and it makes me much more confident being able to get my feet down. How do you mean? I do have a comparison video already comparing the low seat to the standard one.
Very nice bike. I am about to buy one. I am from New Zealand and they have some good special deals going here now. Sadly will be trading my GSX S 750 but the VStrom will be a better bike 2 up for my wife and I. With the lowered seat version are you comfortable in flat footing the bike? I am also around 5 foot 6/7. Is it just a lower seat or lowering link that lowers the whole bike? Great review and thanks for the links. Ride safe
C-S Botha they are brilliant. I can flat foot it if I have a pillion or luggage easily but just can’t quite if I’m by myself. But it’s not too tall. I just have the standard seat and not lowered. You could just reduce the preload which would make it sit lower. There’s a little twist knob on the side to do it. Takes seconds and you don’t need tools. I prefer a harder ride so actually increased mine so it’s sits higher.
C-S Botha hi also from nz and today I traded a GSX-S1000F on a new DL650X with a lot of extras. The new bike came loaded with extras, feeling pleased with the buy.
You're 5'6'' and you went for the lower seat - makes sense. But doesn't it increase the reach to the handlebar even more? I test rode this bike once with the stock seat, I'm 5'7'', and I felt a lower back ache after a while...
Honestly can’t remember what the bike is like with the standard seat. In theory Effectively you just sit lower there for the bars are higher which would reduce the strain on your back as you wouldn’t be reaching down for the bars as much. Similar to bar riders. Got dodgy everything but never had an issue with my back on the vstrom my shoulder blades start to ached after a couple hundred miles though. But my shoulders have a lack of cartilage so I get that pain on any bike. Definitely easier on my shoulders than precious bikes I’ve owned.
Did you remove the factory decal set? What did you use to clean the surface before installing the decal set? Here is the location HOME » ACCESSORIES » ADVENTURE » V-STROM 650 » DECAL SET, RED
If you want some good mirrors look at the ones Halford sell they get great reviews from people & I think only £10 each. As for the scotoiler I had a duel injector fitted to my last bike, set it up as per instruction but like you kept flinging oil off. Rang scottoil up & basically told me to ignore the instructions & set the twin injector at the horizontal position & that did the job. My last chain was still going strong& in the green at 42,000 miles but the front sprocket teeth wear early gone.
Hi Freddie. What colour MRA x is that, smoke grey or black? Great mods, I have the quick release panniers and they are really handy to take on and off and defo for consideration.
When you say "quick release" for the panniers, do you mean the original ones from Suzuki or is there another system/ manufacturer? I noticed that the Suzuki ones are quite small. Very good job with your videos mate. The bike looks very nice!
TheMan&TheAnt I mean quick release for the rails. So the rails come off completely in under a minute. Givi do a system for my bike that suit my panniers which are bigger than the Suzuki ones. Thank you.
@@AGardenShedThat's good to know. Hope to get the same bike soon and I am looking for the accessories needed. Your video was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
TheMan&TheAnt your welcome. I was aiming to have links to all the parts in the description but due to it taking for attempts to upload (RUclips errors) I did t have time. Check back in a few days and they’ll be there.
I've got SW Motech quick release racks with the adv trax cases, very happy with them. Actually the only time I've taken the racks off is when I was working on the bike.
Nice video man. The red looks super slick. I think you've helped sway my decision to the quick release Givi Panier racks I'm planning to order for my 2018 650xt. Question - do you have any issues with resonance from the Suzuki Crash bars? I put SW Motech crash bars on mine and it's now got a big vibration from 4900-5400 RPM. They're like tuning forks. I've found the big stromtrooper thread about potential fixes, so planning to try some out this weekend. Just curious if you had to address it. If your bars came on from the dealer you may not notice since you didn't have the baseline from when they were not on. But I lost all the smoothness in those RPMs. Anyway, have fun out there! Great bike.
Use CHAINWAX and you’re chain oil mess days are over. Ride for 1/2 hour to an hour to get chain fully hot then apply CHAINWAX and allow it to fully dry/setup and you are good to go.
Very good vid and extremely good choice of extras (apart from the Scott-oiler but hey-ho)! Should be fine for touring in Europe, if you get some left-hand drive handlebars! 😉. Where are you off to?
Steve Inskip thank you. I did a lot of reasearch in what to get so wasn’t wasting money. I can’t say I’m sold on the Scotoiler but with 200-300 mile days it saves having to oil the chain each night and means I don’t need to carry a large can of chain oil with me. Tweaked the nozzle position so it should work better now. I’m riding to Italy then down Rome then back through Austria Germany and Belgium. Never been to mainland Europe before so excited.
I have same Scott-oiler on my Strom,I fitted it myself. If you follow the instructions you won,t have a problem.I rarely if ever see any oil splatter and chain is moist..I,v had Scott oiler on both my V Stroms.. I have a friend who is a retired motor bike mechanic and a lifetime biker..He says this oiler is money well spent.
I would proving your not short like me. I think first bike its important to be able to touch the ground easily. Other than that I think it would make a brilliant first bike. Its really forgiving and great fun. Does everything you could ask it too.
money not worth spending?? but your gonna change over to quick release pannier brackets? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Get the Scorpion bracket for the ScottOiler it’ll do both sides of the chain/sprocket 👌👌👍
you dont have time? then neither do I. or if you want people to watch..for YOUR gain...then make an effort..or just dont mother at all. as it stands there isnt much credibilty
No I didn’t. At that point I was working 70 hour weeks and spending every free moment looking after my grandmother who was really ill but I don’t mention that in videos. A RUclips video is no where near as simple to make as you would think. Each 10 minute vlog takes atleast 5 hours to make. I don’t see it as my gain. I make RUclips videos for fun, to keep track of memories and to help people. I do not profit on anyway from them apart from the enjoyment of interacting with people. Yes my videos do have adverts which earn less over 6 months than a tank of petrol costs for which all goes towards better cameras, microphones for the channel. So in short no I didn’t have time to do the video exactly how I wanted to but I hope it has helped people none the less. I’m sorry if it didn’t meet your standards.

But my shoulders have a lack of cartilage so I get that pain on any bike. Definitely easier on my shoulders than precious bikes I’ve owned.
I have been trying forever to find a link to that sticker kit, would you be able to provide one? I think it really sets off the look
MarkOnTheMap it’s on the Suzuki website. Go to the vstrom 650 section and click “view all parts and accessories” it’s in the styling section.
@@AGardenShed thanks!
Ive got the silver beak on my 2017 dl650xt... i like your black one...would you like to swap?
Andrew Meadows kind but no. I love the black beak and you really don’t see many of them with it.
Hi Freddie. What colour MRA x is that, smoke grey or black? Great mods, I have the quick release panniers and they are really handy to take on and off and defo for consideration.
Hi it’s the smoked one. The black is solid black I think.
@@AGardenShed I will, thanks for your help. Cheers
I've got SW Motech quick release racks with the adv trax cases, very happy with them. Actually the only time I've taken the racks off is when I was working on the bike.
Nice rig . Thanks !
Nice mods dude, where did you buy the Suzuki crash bars and skid plate? and i totally agree about the mirrors!
Terry B I got them from wheels my local Suzuki dealer although you can buy them online from Suzuki’s website.
A Garden Shed Thanks for the reply, wheels is also my motorcycle dealer and I noticed your from Peterborough too, I’ll go and check it out. 👍🏻
Great bike.
Matt Tries to Do Things not noticed it. This is my second vstrom and ridden them without. Not had any issues with it sounding like a tuning fork.
Hi, where did you buy those nice side decals (SUZUKI, 650,..)?
Love the red decals , just quick question were did you buy them from
Cheers
Matt wil they’re a Suzuki optional extra.
What Honda did you have before this?
hi mate, do you recommend this as a first bike ?
I would proving your not short like me. I think first bike its important to be able to touch the ground easily. Other than that I think it would make a brilliant first bike. Its really forgiving and great fun. Does everything you could ask it too.
Nice stickers
money not worth spending?? but your gonna change over to quick release pannier brackets? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Get the Scorpion bracket for the ScottOiler it’ll do both sides of the chain/sprocket 👌👌👍
Yes. Still not done it yet its a one day purchase, prioritising for now. Thanks but I already have the scorpion bracket it was fitted in this video.l
you dont have time? then neither do I. or if you want people to watch..for YOUR gain...then make an effort..or just dont mother at all. as it stands there isnt much credibilty
@@AGardenShed I appreciate this video greatly. Thanks man!
