In this video, we dive into 3DMark Vantage, the pioneering benchmark that introduced DirectX 10 and Shader Model 4.0 capabilities to the 3DMark suite in 2008. Explore how geometry shaders and advanced GPU physics calculations revolutionized gaming graphics, capturing the essence of the era. While it lacks a demo feature, 3DMark Vantage showcases the new possibilities opened by DirectX 10, offering a glimpse into the future of gaming technology as it was envisioned back then.

What makes these older games look so dated with people is the lack of PBR based materials and sub surface scattering. Both of those made games from the 8th gen look so much better than their 7th gen counterparts. Subsurface scattering helped so much with skin rendering. Although I don't mind the look of the humans in here as they have their own charm to them. I love the water effects and wish more games had more detailed water physics without traversing into doing too much fluid simulation. Cloth physics are nice and still seen today but not much.
PhysX was cool but at the time it was such a performance hog

When devs, artists, programmers actually cared to push hardware capabilities

They still very much do. Also these are benchmarks so that was the point of them and they still do
