    Definitely do a tow test. I think this is one of the biggest selling points of this car if you want to be able to tow, but don't want a full blown 4wd. There really isn't another car in the segment that compares on paper. Interesting to see how it goes in the real world.

      I have an STL in the previous model and purchased it over the Kluger for just that reason. Tows really well.

      @jackh4787 Год назад +1

      Santa Fe is 2500 towing, albeit 200 on the ball, 220 with upgraded springs. More torquey engine too.

    • @matt895816
      @matt895816 Год назад +1

      I like the Klugers and they will do 2000 kg with a 2 tonne towball. So not bad but still no where near the pathfinder on paper. The Sante Fe is a good option but noticeably smaller in size, and need to still upgrade the suspension. I think the only other soft roader that can tow is the Volkswagen Toureg, but you'd have to be willing to drive a VW and its more expensive. Will be interesting when the new engine is available on the Subaru Outback which will do 2400 kg with 240 download. But this doesn't offer 7 seats, if that's needed. A soft roader towing test would be good to see!!

      We have a sub-2000kg camper trailer which I think would suit behind the Pathfinder.

    Just picked up my new Ti-L. Have come from a previous gen Jeep Grand Cherokee (overland spec diesel). Key features for me were towing capacity and ability to fit my efoil board in the back with having to disassemble it. The way the seats almost fold flat meant it was more suitable than the Patrol i was looking at. The V6 engine is just sweet and smooth with more that enough power especially when mated to the ZF 9 speed which is well calibrated. Its just such a well balanced and comfortable car to drive with heaps of space and features. Compared to the other soft roaders this would be the most 4wd/capable/mucho of the lot. For me and my needs it ticked all the boxes (albeit more expensive that the rest) but it saved me 20k compared to a patrol and 50k less than a land cruiser.

The review on this point was weak, of course the CVT was terribly unreliable. You go and ask any auto transmission repair shop how many Nissan CVTs they are seeing and the answer will be ‘heaps’. On a petrol engine review you would think the fuel grade would be a natural point of interest. Is it ULP (91), PULP (95,98)?

Just a couple of observations: apart for where I rest my arm/hand while driving how soft the top of the dash or door cards is (i got myself out of the habit of elbow on window sill due to back spasms) is not that relevant. The Pathfinder looks nice, but is 307 mm longer than my Kodiaq and has far less storage capacity. Do Skoda and Nissan measure their volumes the same way? We're currently trading our 2017 Pathfinder ST-L. Jumped into a new Everest Platinum for test drive (wife loved it's looks) - the interior, aside from the fancy electronic dash, it felt like a step backwards, hard scratch-magnet plastics everywhere, seats not good, and less room in comparison to the r52.
      The V6 diesel sounded like a tractor and while it had a reasonable amount of go, it felt like you had to send it mail via Auspost before it responded to your throttle request. At highway speeds the older Nissan felt way more responsive. The Everest is very much a body on frame 4wd, with actual off road capability - it should only be on the list if you're taking it off road or need added tow capacity.
      The Palisade was a much better place to sit and quieter engine to the Everest, I suspect it's similar feel to the new Pathfinder (which we'll look at soon). The Kluger is also a nice place to sit, albeit a little smaller (the rear seats space is tiny) than the Pathfinder and Palisade. The i4T engine sounds harsh and rattly compared to the V6. It was actually my pick, but the wife hates the looks and that it's tech is standard Toyota (as in 5+ years behind).

      What would be a decent, comparable rival in this price point? The CX-9 was really good but is getting deprecated this year, Palisade is loaded with fancy features but drives like a turd, especially the top of the range 2.2D model.
      I'm genuinely searching for a decent 7 seater under 100K

    I think there is an error with the cargo capacity. Even with most 5 seater SUVs, when you fold all the seats, there'll be at least 1000l of boot space. To have 800 here sounds something is not right.

    • @jean-louishamid5285

      I would say at least 1800L, that's a very large vehicle, I think that's where the ñistake came from. My damn Mondeo has 1500 L when folding the seats down.

    Hopefully picking my new R53 STL up before Xmas, Looking forward to towing my 2000kg ATM twin axle European caravan. Being an old rally car driver, you have to look at the gearing, not only the engine. With the VQ35DD and a 9 speed Automatic and a lowish first gear and a low final drive/Diff. Perfect for towing and when not towing a tall overdrive 8th and 9th gear. Not many other SUV's have this lowish gearing!

      After 12 months 16000ks of ownership this car has been faultless, I love it. It tows my 2000kg ATM caravan perfectly, very stable. Although I know my weights. About 14L/100ks towing at 90 kph. Not much more than my old 2011 Volvo XC90 Diesel. Also running 98 octane does 0-100kph in low 7's sec. Very happy.

    I like the styling except for the weird headlights and... why is 'Pathfinder' written upside-down on the center console? 👀
    PS - it's really funny how Nissan is still sticking to their ancient keyfob design. It's not hard to make a new one and it's the one thing that's handed to you the moment you receive your vehicle at the dealership. It's a big part of the 'wow factor', something you proudly put in your pocket and put on the dining table. It has to look great.

    Thank for the review. A comparison against the Hyundai Palisade Highlander would be great. Given both top specs of both brands are very similar in nature! Particularly given both offer captains chairs in the mid row. Interestingly no full spare wheel for the Pathfinder, only a space saver...?
    Anyone know if the third row receives air bags in the Pathfinder?

    I've been looking for a replacement for the Toyota Kluger and realistically this is it...... There are many diesels etc but in Australia we get really crappy cars, they are SO SLOW. The fact it's acceptable for ANY car to take 10+ seconds to get to 100km/h should be illegal, it's a safety issue! You need to be able to move quickly as it may save your life so all our diesels essentially suck here. The pathfinder ticks all the boxes, little expensive, a little down on power....... would have been nicer above 220kw and closer to 400nm of torque but again the limitions of the v6 size. Might have been better with a 3.8 litre v6 with four cyclinder mode I think thats what most 7 seaters need...... having that slightly extra larger capacity to hand out the torque and power needed to bring the 2 tonne 7 seaters into that proper 7-8 second 0-100 range.... Ride could probably be fixed with the smaller wheels as you said.... the Toyota Klugers a bit too bouncy.... go over a speed bump at McDonalds on a slight angle and it's like your on a boat. Now I'll have to wait a few years for these to drop by half and be on the used market :D..... Mid 30's is really all anyone should pay for a car, maybe a tad more for the larger 4wd's built tougher.

    • @Jabid21
      @Jabid21 Год назад +2

      The likely reason why there aren’t matrix headlights could be that this model was primarily made for the American market. Matrix headlights were illegal and not approved for use in the US until the beginning of this year. If Nissan wants to bother, they can develop new lights but I think they will hold off until they do a mid-cycle refresh.
