Symmetra stacking new meta Total of 450 max health on a six Symmetra team Imagine six 650hp angry Indian Tech Support women chasing you down with shields thowards a room with 36 turrets, Jesus Christ.
6 Symmetras are still easily countered. Sombra, Winston, Pharah, Mercy. Sombra's ult will cancel all 6 shield generators and her innate shields. Winston will wipe out all defenses and damage through the shields. Pharah is completely unreachable. Mercy can just fly away as soon as a Symmetra comes close.
Overwatch's symmetra has seen a huge buff / rework to her kit on the PTR! She is now some kind of tank, support, defense, initiation hybrid & has a barrier better than winston and one potentially more versatile than reins!!! its going to be great to see how people use her. Let us know what you think and be sure to drop a Like & Subscribe if you enjoyed!
I love that photon barrier, especially the speed on it. Symmetra was one of my favorites before they nerfed her turrets on console, but even before that people were getting better at countering her and I had all but stopped playing her. This looks great though.
Your Overwatch rip reinhardt/Winston I mean Big indirect nerf To tanks, this + range buffs meh, she needed some changes but idk just dont kinda like them
...until she puts down a Shield generator and gets an armor pack from torb. She then has 350hp, 175of which is rechargeable shield and 75 is armor that takes reduced damage. She can send a 1000hp shield in front of her that she can either charge in with or piss off enemy snipers with, and a weapon with 160 dps potential that can in one way or another bypass all other character's deployable defenses (except zarya shield). Add her tiny hitbox to a mix and you have yourself a tanky hero indeed. I think with these changes she will soon also receive a nerf to damage output of her primary fire. Most people dont realise just how powerful it is when its charged. Im some clustered chokepoints if you get enough charge and manage to avoid fire you can get team kill by yourself. Theyll probably nerf it slightly to make her more reliant on her turrets, because right now she is beyond OP. Either that or we see counter picks for Symmetra (never thought Id see the day). Sombra is an obvious one, her emp kills shields, her hack prevents Sym from deploying the barrier. McCree, soldier and Pharah can probably deal with her from long range if Sym hadnt had time to set up properly, and Winston still awesome at killing turrets and his shield is still rather problematic even for Sym.
With a Shield Generator + armor pack from torb. Every Character becomes a tanky hero. And just because I'm pretty sure that the primary fire will be totally fine. Sure it's devastating if it's fully charged. But there are plenty of ways to counter that. And currently most people simply underestimate that, when Symmetra gets that buff and will be played more often then i'm pretty sure that people will be aware of that. Besides the Heroes you already said there are 3 more Heroes which counter her pretty good i think. Reaper Outdamages her. Mei can slow/freeze/wall her that mei or allies can get out of beam range. Or Mei can use the wall to "destroy" Symmetras shields. And the last one is Lucio by simply knocking her back and giving allieds increased movement speed. My biggest fears are just the meta changes if she will be part of it. In that case i predict some teamcomps like: Symmetra, Lucio, Zarya, maybe even a Bastion,... Zarya ult + Symmetras alternate fire is already pretty strong. Zarya shield + Symmetra since she has to be handled if she comes close to you. Lucio to increase the movement speed which is great for Symmetra and Zarya. And since Symmetra and Zarya have a shield so both don't need that much healing. And Bastion greatly can protect the shield generator. And can be protected good by Symmetras "shootable shields". And that meta doesn't sound that much fun.
We werent late on this video, we like to actually digest and offer out genuine information and even potential implementations of the kit. Not just reupload patch notes :) -w
KIM NGUYEN Unit lost and Other spenf too much time in the subject. Over 5 min of bla bla and going in circles. I like Your Overwatch more. They summarise everything better
If you can just put that Shield Generator ult down inside of the spawn room, it can be quite powerful. Especially if you're nearly losing on Defense in Numbani.
Unidentiviable Technically, Primal Dialga is always on time. Unless fucking Shiny Celebi decides to start throwing freedom fighters around like they're toys.
My toughts exactly, this shield might have some aplication for helping your teammates but it feels more like something of personal use so you can reach your enemies before they fill your body with lead.
Yeah, I like that it allows for faster pushes than Reinhardt would, but it should move a little slower. If people aren't moving in the EXACT same direction as it, it will slowly leave them behind.
I actually thought so at first too but then i realized symmetra's beam distance is farther now and this also allow characters who can teleport to switch side and attack from both. However, I'm sure people aren't going to be doing that for at least a few more days
Each update is screwing Reinhardt even more, first Sombra hacks and Soldier 76 doing crazy damage and now a character with a mobile barrier and slot of utility Symmetra really deserved that buff though, she's one of my favorites
Is it though? One of the first things I thought about is how rein can't shield during his charge, but with this you can send it out preemptively and he charge in after it with a 1k barrier in front and arrive mostly healthy. I feel like she's a much more supportive character like this just in the way she helps tanks do more tanking in a different way than healers. can't wait to see some cheeky ult denials with this ^^ hmmm I wonde if dva can eat the shields projectile? Or if it's counted as a built object.
To be honest, Rein ult still shits on many disorganised teams (i.e most of ranked queue) and builds relatively quickly. He's still a threat and is definitely viable, but others being brought up in to the picture doesn't make him a NECESSITY. This is bound to happen, for the better or for the worst (probably the better, the meta will have faster pace etc)
+M a g e n t a I don't see why anyone at higher comp levels would choose him over the buffed dva with her great mobility or the devastating zarya who has a more accurate beam tracking now, that's what I think at least . The meta is indeed changing
She won't replace a Reinhardt shield or any Tank at all, but she will be good enough to consider in a lot of team comps. I'm excited for the shield generator, but also a bit bummed out because the mechanics of the teleporter wasn't improved at all and will now become an ability that is never used.
This is a cool change! Even more than I'd expected. I'd wondered if we'd see something more typically recognisable in terms of being abilities comparable to ones we've seen in this or other shooters, but the moving shield is a pretty unfamiliar concept. Already thinking of uses for it. Also I'd just like to say I think Weagal has become my favourite member of the Your Overwatch crew, though I enjoy all your personalities of course. Keep up the great work guys.
Some people are saying this is a nerf to Genji... are you serious? Genji mains, this is your day! 75 extra shields to do as you please with. Don't you remember the God comps of closed beta, with Symettra, Genji and Zenyatta stacking? The same priciple will apply here. So what if the other team also has a Symmetra who can deal with you a bit more easily now. This is a buff to all squishies if played right, Tracer, Genji and Sombra just got a hell of a lot more viable. (Which is nice cos they are a little unfavoured in the meta at the moment)
this is great to counter roadhog too, the extra shields from Sym and armor from Torb means you can survive a hook/shot combo from him, hanzo mains wont be able to pull off lucky shots on offensive characters anymore either lol, cant wait to play bastion when this comes out, ill be rolling with 450 hp from a sym/torb combo
Gerry Brazell symetra counters genji so a buff to her is a need to genji but I see what you mean genji can easily take her out of you don't get to close
it's also great for sombra on either side of the symmetra, if the sombra is on the opposite team her ultimate just became a lot more viable since it destroys sheilds
There's also the hidden change that is the animation speed for placing a sentry turret seems to have been significantly increased, or I guess it's that the "backswing" of the animation that used to slow symmetra significantly (by about 90% of her movespeed) is now a lot less? this can be seen at 3:06 It's not a crazy change like all the other things but it's an incredible quality of life change that means the turret can be used more readily in attacking/1v1 situations in which placing a turret was always a bad move but now it's definitely something to consider.
You see how Reaper had to back up to even hit the shield? Yeah, that's the problem. It flies way too fast to be effective. Don't even bother shooting it, just wait for to to go past you. Or shoot around it, it can't pivot like Reinhardt's shield.
itll cancel ults, and itll be initiative since one team can shoot through while the other cant. on ptr. i blocked 12k damage and got potg with her on attack
ayayron It doesn't cancel ults, and a Reinhardt shield, DVA defence matrix or Winston bubble would be vastly superior, as they won't shoot off past you leaving you a sitting duck. And of course you blocked a lot of damage spamming it into chokes, they would have been trying to break it for the second or two its in their face, then carry on like nothing happened.
Crispy Bacon it messes them up greatly, reapers ult was essentially cancelled, it allows you to push up on bastions and get past chokes to set up. put your 6 turrets up and keep moving with your team
I have a question/concern about the Shield Generator: can you set it up in spawn? (Teleporters can, after all.) Imagine defending the second point of Hanamura or the Temple of Anubis, for example. The range of the Generator would be enough to reach and protect teammates on the point, but the attacking team would have no way of getting rid of it. If that is how it works, that seems like it'd be unbalanced.
I love the changes because they make Symetra more viable (no housekeeping/chores with pressing e on people and faster turret placement cooldown) while enhancing her uniqueness as a hero. I think the shield generator is OP on defense on choke points and line of sight would make it more balanced. Having to go to the specific room to get shields means your changing your position from the front defense and if you want the maximum benefit, you have to risk it being destroyed more.
To be honest there will be a few favoured spots and they will become well known. It is still difficult to take down as it requires 400 points of focused damage, which even some of the highest damage heroes will struggle to dish out quickly enough. Imagine the backup of 6 turrets and a team that plays around defending the generator, and you have yourself a very strong ultimate, regardless of whether they know where it is or not. It is almost like a new position to assault, besides the capture point/payload. I think we could see teams play around this in a very interesting way.
I need to play in a normal game (1 hero per team) but I found in NoLimits the Shield Generators effects stack with multiple Symetras. We had 3 or 4 going at once on Honamura and I couldn't be killed as Bastion (675 HP + self heal). I can see the moving shield being good on pushes to give your team a little space.
I know you didn't really think she's a tank, but I still think it's important to say: SYMMETRA IS STILL A SUPPORT. She's simply a kind of Support we haven't yet seen in Overwatch. Instead of focusing on undoing damage (healing), she focuses on preventing damage (barrier and shields). That said, I also want to drop a few thoughts on balance for her. First, her Shield Generator needs its range significantly reduced. Also, the Photon Barrier really needs a CD increase, up to 12 or possibly 15 seconds.
Just tried it out on the PTR. One thing that was not mentioned is the interesting physics of the new ability. The drone cannot fire when pointed in a downward direction, the ability actually being blocked out. It can be fired at a very shallow downward direction that automatically adjusts itself to run with the direction of the ground. This adjustment continues if it comes into contact with an upward facing slope, the drone adjusting itself upwards with the new gradient. At the top of the slope when it levels off the drone continues moving in an upward direction at the same angle as it had been on the slope. The fact that this works up hill rather then downhill I think telegraphs that they see this ability as more of a offensive tactic then a defensive one since most attack points are uphill in the game. Secondarily, I would note that the extra 2m range in her weapon will make chaining with her weapon that much more easy and devastating as Symmetra's strength is in taking out multiple people at once.
Anyone think of how broken Symetra + Bastion will be now? She can defend his hiding spot (with turrets), provide covering shields if someone tries to peek/shoot him, and can deny space constantly (with her right click). If a flanker comes she can outright murder them, and when she has her ult down, it will be even harder to take her and bastion out. This would be the perfect choke denial.
Chillydogdude They have 1 hp, it's merely the diversion that they provide that we want. A tracer/genji has to deal with them before diving. And the shield is a surplus of sorts, if she shoots it from bastion's position it will probably provide 2-4 seconds of cover from that direction before she uses it again. That can be quite useful if the enemy are breaking through the the rein in the front.
3:50 ...K, right. Ideas, sure, but not original. They gave her a Rein shield that moves itself, and moved her old ability onto her ultimate, and increased the shields given. I mean, great for her, but this isn't what I would call ground breaking or unique. I mean, I was expecting a whole new character rework, but her gun is still the same (numbers change, range), her turrets are still the same (number change, turrets held and regen), her first ult is still the same (numbers change, shield health instead of normal), instead of a brand new ability, they gave her Rein's barrier that moves itself (I can only really see this being used on the second point of Anubis, but being kind of really situational in every game), and her generator (which grants almost no reason to be using the tele) is really just her old photon barrier, like, pre nerf when it have 50, only now giving 75.
I think it's an interesting buff. Really want to try her out. The shield is more or less there so you can close gaps without taking damage, since she needs to be right up close like Winston, but lacks the jump of Winston. You fire it, you follow it, you microwave whoever is downrange. Very useful for attack. The barrier clearly has other benefits too, and it definitely adds to her usefulness. Hell, even having 6 turrets at once is a cool benefit. There's nothing I dislike, on paper, about this. Really curious to see it in effect. I already play a fair amount of Symmetra, and this just gives me more reasons and instances to choose her.
As a Symmetra main, this is incredible! I do kinda wish they did something about her alt fire speed but oh well. I also feel like the photon barrier should kind of lightly "push" the enemies that are hit with it. I also think it would be cool to have a stationary photon barrier and not have it be a glitch. It would work by just tapping the button twice. Tap once to place the barrier, and immediatly tap again to send it out. That's just my thoughts.
Only thing missing now is a secondary weapon that instakills tanks, even through barriers/walls and increases enemy respawn time by ten minutes. Oh, and a self-healing invulnerability bubble with a ten meter radius that lasts for twenty seconds. ... there is balancing, and there is lunacy.
After testing last night I can say the shield heavily supresses snipers who find an ideal line of sight. Projecting it at a sniper grantees several seconds of cover for Symmetra and her team as the shield has too much HP to gun down, forcing a sniper to find a new angle. This makes her a counter to snipers for sure. How hard of one is debatable but it wasn't fun to play with and kind of felt like the fun of a sniper finding an opening in an already dense map was spoiled a bit when that power was taken away.
Enemy team doesn't have to destroy it. Once they kill a person with the bonus shields, then they cannot reclaim it. Since the generator cannot be destroyed, Symmetra cannot gain ultimate while it's active, unless she hero swaps.
It doesn't cover the whole map though - it has a range of effect that passes through walls. So putting it in spawn might work for the 2nd point on some maps, but wouldn't be any good on KOTH maps or for point 1. I wouldn't be surprised if they put some sort of nerf that prevent you from building in the spawn room so it can always potentially be destroyed.
This is my problem, when escorting payload, all of your teammate must walk/run with the barrier. And it's kinda useless for capturing area, because it was so fast, it barely shield you, it's better to use it for initiating attack. She is the front liner support now, before, she was mid/behind support.
Michael Wong thats what I mean. Now she is more offensive and front line character than a support. The only thing that make her support is her ulti. And now you can only shield from the front, before it was a shield to a teammate, no matter where you attacked, you will be shielded. Thats why I said her shield is for initiating attack not really shielding you because it is so fast.
Sinbreaker That's the thing, with that pacing, it's still too fast. The maps are not straight forward, there's a lot of choke points and corners. Her barrier just basically do, bazinga! and not defend her effectively. Let's say, that she is running with her barrier, there's an enemy in front of her, of course she will focus on that enemy. But then, other enemy creep from her side or maybe there's building so she did not see them. See? The barrier is not for a shield, it is for initiating attack. Try her! I did play just for fun and in PTR, if the enemy have her too, I always ask in the end of the match about their problems. Most of them always said that her barrier is too fast and barely shield you and your teammates (and in some cases, say there's widowmaker, the barrier is helpful if you aim the barrier to her only, so she needs to move to attack, or when Pharah use ulti and you just block her, even can kill her if you time it right, but it means all other enemies can aim you easy enough if you dont booby trapped the area with turrets). I actually ask to some people what if they make a feature like, the longer you hold the button the faster the barrier, and if you only tap, the barrier will be slower. Some people liked that idea, but it would be too OP some said.
The shield generator should also work for ally buildable objects. (Shield generator and teleport should be combined into one imo, to make it simple.) I think the shield projector should be a bit slower. (She should be able to shoot it in the middle to make it faster.)
So her shield is cool but by her dual ult is the most interesting by far because that opens up what future heros can bring to the table or what present heros can become.
I think it would be cool if we could either plant the shield down for x damage or x time, whichever came first. Like, you press the button to send it off or hold it to allow you to see its placement and the button release builds it
Symmetra could actually be viable in attack for the first attack points of anubis and eichenwalde. With those doorways being the only path in, that photon barrier could be a game changer in allowing the attacking team through along with the reinhardt shield.
I wonder if this will bring in an age of a lot of heroes possibly having an alternate ultimate. Say for Mercy, instead of just a Rez it's possible for her to give a damage boost to all teammates for a certain time? Or for Sombra, she could make enemies weapons jam instead of making them unable to use abilities? It's an interesting idea and it would bring in a lot of new content to Overwatch which is what the people want.
I consider myself a Symmetra main, so I'm super hyped for this! I've been waiting a long time for a buff for her, and she finally has one. I'm happy I'll be able to play her more often.
I was quite curious about how these changes looked like, and since it's a complete redesign of the character, I'm pretty excited to play with the new Symmetra. Thanks for the footage and info guys ;)
Hmm, I think the generator should be line of sight definitely. The power and range are if LOS was needed (and an effect on the players getting the shield)
The shield generators DO stack. It's believed to be a bug, but maybe not. The only modes it will affect are the "Show Your Support" Brawl and No Limits. I hope it's a bug. We got Tracer to 650 health.
I'm saying this now, before it goes live. Unless they make that shield a object that enemies can't walk through the only thing that will be useful for is soaking up a couple bullets. The reason I say that is because once people get use to her new abilities and that barrier. There will come a time were people will just start ignoring her barrier and walking through it and killing anyone on the other side. Plus, that still might not even "fix" it because then people will ignore it and walk around it. I obviously can't see the ways people can use that barrier effectivley so... suggestions?
No, the ult is ok as it is. You can destroy the generator so putting a time limit would just make the whole concept of it useless and it would become Lucio's ult.
I'm glad they took my idea to give her more than one ultimate choice in order to play her offensive/defense. The 75flat energy shield that regens might be really good. The moving shield is interesting except I think it moves too fast. I would have liked if she can stop the wall when necessary by another click of E in order to block DVA explosions. If she is trying to be an off tank, mei still does it better. If she is trying to be a turreter, Torb does it better. If she is trying to be a shield applicator she does it best with her Ult, but Torb gives armor over time which is better than shield, and Zarya has the best shield because it saves lives. This character would be complete if you could just stop the shield from moving, and if the shield could wrap around targets negating attacks or just wrap around DVA's exploding mech + Mei's Ultimate sphere + Tracer's bomb + Junk's Tire in order to negate ultimates at the cost of picking a character that cannot DPS as hard as any other defensive toon. Hell just make her Blood-Sucker debuff targets in order to eat through armor and nanoboosted characters.
Finally! Though we can't expect these numbers to stay the same when they come out (they might increase/decrease or whatever) this is still quite good for Symmetra. Who, yeah, honestly did play really passively and though learning how to do her new shield might be tricky. I am very happy with everything else, I especially love the fact that she has a more 'active' ultimate now and this has basically made he splashable in almost any map and on either A or D.
The more you thing about it, the more it seems like new Symmetra could be really powerful at Offense, especially on Maps without a payload. Besides the obvious shield, that could make D.Va a real Option for Main Tank, setting the shield generator on offense should be very effective, because a Team on Defense, holding point, can´t just send some flanker to kill the thing, the risk of an ambush would be something to deal with, especially with turrets to guard it. Turrets would be even effective by taking a second point, because it would be easier to deal with the respawn that way (but that seems more like some "win more" kind of thing, not sure if it gets you often that much value) In general, it´s awesome to see the changes in the Tank Department, away from only Reinhardt (I mean, I love to play the guy, but some variations are apprechiated)
I really enjoy this change and it's continuing blizzards push for a more aggressive team coordinated meta now making predominantly defensive character like Symmetra to have offensive capabilities. This could definitely be the boost Symmetra needed to see her played but it is tough to say. Her buff can definitely be utilized but is it enough to see her picked over other support characters like an Ana or Lucio? Not sure yet but I guess we'll find out if this shifts anything in the meta.
+The joint well it took them like 4 months to buff get placed in, soo... Not any time soon. Ha But she won't need one. It all sounds great on paper but getting that push shield to act right will take team synergy, accuracy, timing, map knowledge, and skill. I don't see the average person complaining.
If this goes live, I see two things happening in short order: 1. The meta on assault maps will become "whichever team has the better Symmetra". 2. Torbjorn becomes truly useless, even after the buffs he just got this patch. These changes mean that everything Torb can do, Symmetra can do better.
I think it would be much better if you can choose to have the shield move or have it stationary so Symmetra is viable on offense and defense equally. So far having it only move is more for an offensive approach
Barrier seems to move a little too fast to be used as a tanking ability for the team, it feels more like a strict approaching ability for both the team and herself. Still seems great, but I wouldn't mind if it was a tad slower.
Seem these changes may shift the meta into a less Tank oriented one If Symmetra sees more play, we may see Sombra used more frequently (in the right way) to counter her. Only if Symmetra sees more skilled play though, since everyone's probably going to insta-lock her in regular quick/comp.
Played on the PTR last night, didn't find her to be much more useful than normal. The projected barrier was pretty awesome for taking out torb turrets, though. Makes them effectively useless by themselves if you have a sym on the team. It's also marginally useful against long-distance sniping since the further away from it you are, the harder it is to bypass. In a close-range death ball, it's next to useless. If the fight is going to come down to the enemy team not being able to do damage for a fraction of a second, then it may win the fight.
Oh wow, Symmetra seems like she is surprisingly viable now. New Symmetra+Sombra strat? Mobile shield allows Sombra to get a safe hack on the enemy team to begin an initiation which seems fairly strong.
but any other dps would normally return better results in a "coordinated team with the right team comp" - unfortunately sombra is good at too many things but exceptional at none, any other dps does more damage and any support does more healing (not sym, for obvious reasons)
Sombra just isn't good because of her raw output, as a few have stated. She's too inconsistent to be viable, and you rarely EVER see her picked in ranked, and many tournament teams etc usually pick characters that do more in that given scenario.
I just quickly want to remind everyone that originally Ana was hardly ever picked in tournament play and most people considered her a terrible support. Now people praise her as one of the best supports since her kit was fully explored and crafted. Just because she isn't immediately viable, that does not mean she isn't good overall.
Ii wish they would change her shift ability to where you dont have to keep clicking shift. This would make symmetra play at a more fast pace along with most of the heroes in this game.
I don't think the tele should really be optional or can you get both going at the same time? The shield generator is too good to trade it for the tele(BiS). Making the team passively strong is always going to be the better option.
Billmasters66 I don't think they are I mean with so many projects and reiterations going on. I'm sure she's in the pipeline. Just like Symetra, they need time
This is how Symmetra's should work: Gun- The beam is fine but the charging mechanic of the orbs is kind of useless in a sense, everyone fully charges then because what is the point of small slow moving projectiles? This is what the orb charging should be: Charging shorter- Faster moving, smaller, and less damage projectile. Charging longer- Slower moving, bigger, more damage projectile. This is what needs to be changed with her gun that would make her a lot better in more situations. The smallest orbs would travel at the speed of a Reinhardt fire strike and the larger orb would be how it is now. Turrets- All shields, 15 hp. Also when they are in the range of the shield generator they will also gain 15 hp. Shield- Click to make it appear right in front of you "stationary". Click again if you want it to move forward. It will move slower than it does now (let's be honest it is wayyyyy to fast). You will also be able to stop it again when it is moving by clicking. BUT for the barrier to be able to move, it must be line of sight with you, and when you break LOS with a moving barrier it will be destroyed. Why? Lets say you put your shield in a corner to protect your teleporter/shield generator and you are in a fight and you need it. When you click you want to deploy the shield in front of you then, not move the barrier you left back in a room you can't see. Teleporter- One problem with this is everyone on the enemy team calling out there is a teleporter WITHOUT SEEING IT. Get rid of that and make the sound of in a little less loud. The only time a teammate should say there is a teleporter is when they actually see it. Also if a teammate falls of a cliff in less than 3 seconds after going into a teleporter it will immediately be broken. Shield generator- This is only viable for some charters. If it shields anymore, then it's way to OP for low health characters and now it's basically not there for high heath characters. Instead let it be based on the certain health pool. 150 -> 225 200 -> 300 250 -> 350 300 -> 400 400 -> 550 500 -> 650 600-> 750 A MAJOR problem with Symmetra is her ultimates and how they charge. Once you have a teleporter/ shield generator deployed you can't even charge it at all. As we all know Symmetra is very rushed into getting her ultimate and will always be. But when you have you ultimate down there is an awkward point in Symmetra's game where her only life goal is to protect her "precious" ultimate using all her turrets to protect it, and camping at it to make sure not one kills it. What she should be focused on is being with her team. But the only way you can incentivize a player to do that is to be able to charge your ultimate while one is already deployed. Will you be able to charge it all the way? No. Something like up to 50% would be good. So now Symmetra will not have to choose between guarding her ultimate with her life or actually helping her team. Also another problem is the fact that her ultimates CANNOT be moved, broken, or anything by you. On a payload map this is a huge problem, not being able to keep up with a fight is not how a hero should be. Instead the player can press Q again while the ultimate is up and will get a percentage back depending how many people used the teleporter. 6 remaining- 60% 5 remaining- 50% 4 remaining- 40% 3 remaining- 30% 2 remaining- 20% 1 remaining- 10% For the shield generator you would just get back 50% ultimate charge when you destroy it.
I would really love to see a video on how to be a better player for people who are not necessarily beginners, but still struggle with things like positioning and maybe haven't played csgo or similar games but played a lot of fps and want to aquire skill
tenjek why destroy them when you could have them work for you. Imagine being in a fight with 75 extra Shields giving you some confidence. The boom, the enemy has the Shields and your back to baseline and there's nothing you can do about it for the next 60 seconds. Except destroy it yourself. To me, that sounds better.
EMP destroys shields and the teleporter and shield generator are 90% shield for their health pool. So she doesn't need to hack, just EMP and shoot and they're gone instantly. This change could actually make Sombra useful Symettra counter - debuffing teams and destroying shield generators more quickly gives EMP something that is more practical to do. Rather than trying to burn through that 75 health of shields to eat away at their real health (not to mention healers like Lucio or Mercy undoing that damage while their shields are up and buffering away any long term damage) in a fire fight, you use EMP and all the buffs go away along with their skills swinging the tough fight in your favor for 6 seconds.
jonnyt8524 If you take it over, that wouldn't be very useful. The Symettra turrets in the area would still be with their team and it will be on their side (if their Symettra is smart), so your team would have to fight into enemy territory to protect your new teleporter/generator and the other team can just destroy it and recharge a new one. Or they could camp it for free kills. Plus the teleporter only gets 6 charges. Having the enemy team be able to use up those charges would basically make it even MORE useless. They already gave her a second ult because of how bad it is now lol
I see her mobile shield being used on attack to counter torbs/bastions to give people a few to move position. Not two heroes you see a lot in high level comp play, but sub-gold is littered with them.
Wow, new meta : symmetra everywhere. This is crazy, this shield is crazy to engage, defende, chase, counter ulti like phara's or roadhog ult. And i think that the shield generator could be more interesting than the tp (tracer love you symmetra). i'm hype :D
If symmetra will be in the meta after change, we might see sombra more often in compet - so she can download crap into the shield generator. Ild like to see how this further impacts the tank meta. Also, to have a big german man have a heart attack as a tiny indian girl creates a moving shield while his is stuck on his hand.
In actual release, hope the buffs are implemented without the new changes first - as my fav hero i don't want a rework (which makes her much easier to use) if it's not needed.
Symmetra stacking new meta
Total of 450 max health on a six Symmetra team
Imagine six 650hp angry Indian Tech Support women chasing you down with shields thowards a room with 36 turrets, Jesus Christ.
Shield generators don't stack obviously lol
Stove Spiegel They do lol
Euroliis well whoever they're chasing rest in spaghetti never forgetti
Well, outside of the Arcade you cannot stack a certain character iirc anymore...
Your Overwatch first reply
I love that photon barrier, especially the speed on it.
Symmetra was one of my favorites before they nerfed her turrets on console, but even before that people were getting better at countering her and I had all but stopped playing her.
This looks great though.
So. Many. Bugs.
Jaime B I think you can pass through the shield :0 same as how the rein and Winston barriers work
Your Overwatch rip reinhardt/Winston I mean Big indirect nerf To tanks, this + range buffs meh, she needed some changes but idk just dont kinda like them
Omg tracer with 75 shield...... Kill me now
James Kub Throw Torb armor on that thats 300hp on a tracer
No.
Shine Bright Like A Doitsu it's an AOE ability
you will only be able to get the benefit of half the diameter though. and the spawn doesn't reach the objective on any map.
Except Point B on every Assault map.
A Tank?... Well... No
With that rework she simply becomes a real Support now.
...until she puts down a Shield generator and gets an armor pack from torb.
And just because
I'm pretty sure that the primary fire will be totally fine.
Venomotte One thing is for sure now: Symmetra's going to be part of the meta.
Venomotte props for writing all that
Venomotte no, she becomes a defense hero with amazing turrets and some support elements, kind of like a torbjorn.
You guys are late, but provide more information than Unit Lost and others
KIM NGUYEN unit losts thumbnails are clickbait looking with the "WTF" xD
Late because they uploaded 3-5 hours later? What?
We werent late on this video, we like to actually digest and offer out genuine information and even potential implementations of the kit. Not just reupload patch notes :) -w
+Your Overwatch Savage
KIM NGUYEN Unit lost and Other spenf too much time in the subject. Over 5 min of bla bla and going in circles. I like Your Overwatch more. They summarise everything better
If you can just put that Shield Generator ult down inside of the spawn room, it can be quite powerful. Especially if you're nearly losing on Defense in Numbani.
tested it out on ptr and you can in fact place it in side of your spawn! though there is a bug where you don't get the shield buff when you respawn
I just tried it and apparently you can't place it inside spawn anymore.
Or volskaya industries
Her moving shield will be great for payloads
it'd be great for the shitty plays that cant kill the bastion XD
Munrogo12 it'll get destroyed fast.
Munrogo12 lik u
Phillip Fitzgerald .....
well played sir
As a reinhardt main, I am insulted by this moving shield
Symmetra and Mei need their own category now. They both do it all.
Comeback Kid I also feel like Sombra could work for a new category.
Utility?
I like that. It's a great catch all.
mei torb symmetra and maybe even sombra could all go well into that category.
Utility XD
I'm not early, I'm not late, I'm RIGHT ON TIME GOD FUCKING DAMNIT
But not in the right year.
Euroliis Primal Dialga is never on time to anything
Unidentiviable Technically, Primal Dialga is always on time. Unless fucking Shiny Celebi decides to start throwing freedom fighters around like they're toys.
Euroliis Lmfao
Unidentiviable Wait, primal Dialga doesn't actually exist right?
her barrier needs to move a touch slower
RockCh4lk was thinking the same. just like move as fast as mccree during low noon
no, don't you see ? it's made so symetra can run behind the shield and quickly reach enemy for melee.
Symetra assassin !
Each update is screwing Reinhardt even more, first Sombra hacks and Soldier 76 doing crazy damage and now a character with a mobile barrier and slot of utility
Symmetra really deserved that buff though, she's one of my favorites
SweetTooth Gaming yeah i know. wonder if theyll buff him next and hey love that pic of re-l, ergo proxy is one of my favourite animes
Is it though? One of the first things I thought about is how rein can't shield during his charge, but with this you can send it out preemptively and he charge in after it with a 1k barrier in front and arrive mostly healthy.
I feel like she's a much more supportive character like this just in the way she helps tanks do more tanking in a different way than healers. can't wait to see some cheeky ult denials with this ^^
hmmm I wonde if dva can eat the shields projectile? Or if it's counted as a built object.
SweetTooth Gaming rein was a must pick before, now he's still viable, but not a must pick, this is good
To be honest, Rein ult still shits on many disorganised teams (i.e most of ranked queue) and builds relatively quickly.
I just noticed her shield might counter bastion a bit.
Narwhal Nation at 1000 or so hp nah. Its just a distraction. at at range bastion still wins.
It's probably enough HP that, if you get ambushed by him, it'll hold long enough to get to cover, but not enough to push into him.
Jared Vargas
it takes 2 1/2 sec. for him to destroy it, so a widow can safely kill him
or pharra, or mccree, or soldier.. or another bastion almost any dps for that matter
Yes, because Bastion needed another counter on top of the other 6 or so
She won't replace a Reinhardt shield or any Tank at all, but she will be good enough to consider in a lot of team comps. I'm excited for the shield generator, but also a bit bummed out because the mechanics of the teleporter wasn't improved at all and will now become an ability that is never used.
Zernolph El Gath
It was improved when it comes to survivability, hold 50 health and 350 shields.
Good thing is that it's still in PTR, and Blizzard could still be adding more changes based on the feedback :)
Finally my 900 symmetra hours will be worth it!!!
omg i got 900 too lol love symmetra
Now everyone is gonna play my Bae and I won't be able to pick her 😭
angellus09 Don't worry, the hype will die down after a week. Same thing happened with Sombra.
angellus09 people are going to play her for like 2 days and then realize she's not that much different just with a rein shield
I completely forgot about that!! Noooooooo!
4:36 That face you make when you get trolled.
Gerry Brazell This had to be said. I don't get the complaints at all, and I play Genji.
this is great to counter roadhog too, the extra shields from Sym and armor from Torb means you can survive a hook/shot combo from him, hanzo mains wont be able to pull off lucky shots on offensive characters anymore either lol, cant wait to play bastion when this comes out, ill be rolling with 450 hp from a sym/torb combo
Also Genji can just jump over that shield. I seriously dont see how this is a nerf to him.
There's also the hidden change that is the animation speed for placing a sentry turret seems to have been significantly increased, or I guess it's that the "backswing" of the animation that used to slow symmetra significantly (by about 90% of her movespeed) is now a lot less? this can be seen at 3:06
It's not a crazy change like all the other things but it's an incredible quality of life change that means the turret can be used more readily in attacking/1v1 situations in which placing a turret was always a bad move but now it's definitely something to consider.
I think it'd be cool if the shield could be stationary, or if it moved a tad slower.
I think the speed is what keeps it from being op though.
The shield is for personal use mostly. It moves at the same speed as her.
OMG yes!! 225 hp tracer I will love any and all who play symmetra
300 with torb, lol!
jared morales sweet Jesus no pls
jared morales NO.
the shield generator can stack health so tracer can have more than 225 hp
Cancer.
You see how Reaper had to back up to even hit the shield? Yeah, that's the problem. It flies way too fast to be effective. Don't even bother shooting it, just wait for to to go past you. Or shoot around it, it can't pivot like Reinhardt's shield.
Crispy Bacon itd be good on a payload moving the same speed maybe
itll cancel ults, and itll be initiative since one team can shoot through while the other cant. on ptr. i blocked 12k damage and got potg with her on attack
Crispy Bacon maybe it pushed the reaper back. Who knows
ayayron It doesn't cancel ults, and a Reinhardt shield, DVA defence matrix or Winston bubble would be vastly superior, as they won't shoot off past you leaving you a sitting duck.
Oh cool, 2 new heroes in 1 month!
Damian Wayne Symmetra isn't new.
It was a joke.
julie
))--------Joke------>
(Ur head)
+julie you're so dumb
Finally a new hero
I have a question/concern about the Shield Generator: can you set it up in spawn? (Teleporters can, after all.) Imagine defending the second point of Hanamura or the Temple of Anubis, for example. The range of the Generator would be enough to reach and protect teammates on the point, but the attacking team would have no way of getting rid of it. If that is how it works, that seems like it'd be unbalanced.
Zarya also got a slight change in the update. Attacks like Fire Strike and Dragonstrike that go through a barrier no longer hit the barrier twice.
i hope this plays well becuase I really want to like Symettra But as she stands is a very niche character.
Shine Bright Like A Doitsu Facts
Shine Bright Like A Doitsu As she stands in the current META this is not public yet so Its a non factor.
I really didnt think i needed to say this
Winstons' bubble was nerfed when there was no hero limit. It was originally 1000 HP and should be buffed back to that amount.
shieldgenerator7 But the shield nerf had nothing to do with hero stacking, it was because it was so powerful that people end up waiting it out.
soccerthepkmnmaster
oh... I thought it was because it was too powerful with 2 Winstons...
Her new projected shields remind me a lot of the energy shields that the gungans used from the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy.
Luke Hickey Oh yes it really looks the same ^^
Luke Hickey It makes me think of this one assist trophy from Smash Bros Brawl if anyone else remembers that.
She's gonna combo hella well with Torb now. Holy crap an extra 150 hp on teammates? A freaking 300 health tracer jumping around? Damn...
75, not 150
Mark Mundschau Torb armour + Symm Shield = 150
75 shields + 75 armour.
he meant combining torbs Armor and symmetra shields will basically give all squishy heros pusedo tank health
He's saying with symmetra and torb can put an extra 150hp on teammates.
No, the shield generator will be easilly found and broken just like the teleporter always was, making it LoS would make it useless.
You can tell exactly where it is though. Suddenly they get shields, so you know it's somewhere in the direction they were moving
Could literally place it in spawn on capture point maps in the second point
To be honest there will be a few favoured spots and they will become well known. It is still difficult to take down as it requires 400 points of focused damage, which even some of the highest damage heroes will struggle to dish out quickly enough. Imagine the backup of 6 turrets and a team that plays around defending the generator, and you have yourself a very strong ultimate, regardless of whether they know where it is or not.
It is almost like a new position to assault, besides the capture point/payload. I think we could see teams play around this in a very interesting way.
But she isn't a tank still..
Better tank than roadhog -w
You are about to get so many triggered replies😂
Your Overwatch are you sure?
shes more of a tank that roadhog is...
With armor and shield booster, she can get up to 350 health, which is almost as much as Zarya
Might finally be possible to get that destroy 3 teleporters achievement
B Paterson Her turrets only have 1 health, and her shield always moves. I don't think Bastion's meta will change much.
dont worry, blizz will nerf sym in tyhe next months after the buff
Chillydogdude They have 1 hp, it's merely the diversion that they provide that we want. A tracer/genji has to deal with them before diving. And the shield is a surplus of sorts, if she shoots it from bastion's position it will probably provide 2-4 seconds of cover from that direction before she uses it again. That can be quite useful if the enemy are breaking through the the rein in the front.
3:50
...K, right. Ideas, sure, but not original. They gave her a Rein shield that moves itself, and moved her old ability onto her ultimate, and increased the shields given. I mean, great for her, but this isn't what I would call ground breaking or unique.
I mean, I was expecting a whole new character rework, but her gun is still the same (numbers change, range), her turrets are still the same (number change, turrets held and regen), her first ult is still the same (numbers change, shield health instead of normal), instead of a brand new ability, they gave her Rein's barrier that moves itself (I can only really see this being used on the second point of Anubis, but being kind of really situational in every game), and her generator (which grants almost no reason to be using the tele) is really just her old photon barrier, like, pre nerf when it have 50, only now giving 75.
it gave 25 not 50
Earlier it was 50 bonus hp. After the nerf it became 25 hp
IceBlinkerDGE She is actual support now
I think it's an interesting buff.
2 important things, 1. Can shield barrier be placed in spawn,, and 2 does the projected barrier count as a projector and can dva absorb it?
Projectile*
BladeArmorGinga it can be placed in spawn like the teleport i i think
Enemy team doesn't have to destroy it. Once they kill a person with the bonus shields, then they cannot reclaim it. Since the generator cannot be destroyed, Symmetra cannot gain ultimate while it's active, unless she hero swaps.
Shadster16 well all symmetra would have to do is swap on then back to reset the shield generator
I really like her new ultimate, but I'm not a fan of the photon shield. Moves way too fast to be useful in my opinion.
Thats why I said her shield is for initiating attack not really shielding you because it is so fast.
it is meant for her to follow behind it... otherwise everyone can just run backwards and shoot it without her getting in range to shoot back.
Some people liked that idea, but it would be too OP some said.
so with our buffed dwarf we can have up to 150 bonus hp thats sick. A 300 hp tracer just what we needed.
-> phara ulti
-> throw a shield to phara's face
-> phara suicide
-> GG
Dunno if anyone has mentioned this but if you activate the floating shield again it will stop and stay in one spot
i think the right klick is much faster than before, thats also very important
Can you place the shield generator in spawn? Can you place turrets on the moving shield? Do 75 shields stack?
I wonder what they are going to nerf first...
SuperCatacata My bet is on the new ultimate
SuperCatacata They should make the uptime of her shield generator no more than 45 seconds and make the radius much smaller.
No, the ult is ok as it is. You can destroy the generator so putting a time limit would just make the whole concept of it useless and it would become Lucio's ult.
Bacon&Pizza&IceCream Lol K.
Haha I'm from future
Symmetra will be cancer.
Nerds are:
D.VA
Bastion
Lucio
Have fun.
Turrets would be even effective by taking a second point, because it would be easier to deal with the respawn that way (but that seems more like some "win more" kind of thing, not sure if it gets you often that much value)
In general, it´s awesome to see the changes in the Tank Department, away from only Reinhardt (I mean, I love to play the guy, but some variations are apprechiated)
Having her ult change is genius. I always wondered how'd they'd give her value once you defended the second defense point and spawn was 2 feet away.
As someone who plays Symmetra pretty often, even on offense, I am so happy that this happened
She should be able to stop the barrier from moving, making it stationary. Would make the barrier more useful.
Does the 75 shield also stack with Torbjorn's 75 armor? Tracer will be unstoppable.
wonder how long will it take to nerf Sym?
+The joint well it took them like 4 months to buff get placed in, soo... Not any time soon. Ha
But she won't need one. It all sounds great on paper but getting that push shield to act right will take team synergy, accuracy, timing, map knowledge, and skill. I don't see the average person complaining.
If this goes live, I see two things happening in short order:
Symmetra needs an "our words are backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS" voice line.
4:00 A-well-a buff buff buff, a buff is the stuff!
Barrier seems to move a little too fast to be used as a tanking ability for the team, it feels more like a strict approaching ability for both the team and herself. Still seems great, but I wouldn't mind if it was a tad slower.
Calm down the radius of the shield generator is 30 ft just like lucio's auras. It is also destroy-able
Prince Peach You got a source to back that up? Where Tracer got the shield is definitely much farther than Lucio's AOE range.
astrofallz Lúcio's auras seem smaller because they need line of sight, but the shield generator doesn't.
Seem these changes may shift the meta into a less Tank oriented one If Symmetra sees more play, we may see Sombra used more frequently (in the right way) to counter her. Only if Symmetra sees more skilled play though, since everyone's probably going to insta-lock her in regular quick/comp.
Oh boy! This is a big buff to the attacker side of hanamura, like on point B you can just send a shield forward while you rush the bridge.
I guess Symmetra finally got past her *Internalized Oppression.*
Symmetra main here and I have to say wow, they made my baby look almost game changing with this kit. Couldn't be happier
Oh wow, Symmetra seems like she is surprisingly viable now. New Symmetra+Sombra strat? Mobile shield allows Sombra to get a safe hack on the enemy team to begin an initiation which seems fairly strong.
I doubt we'd see a Symmetra Sombra composition. This buff isn't enough for Symmetra, and Sombra isn't as viable as we would like to imagine.
Shadster16 On a coordinated team with the right team comp, sombra is extremely viable
but any other dps would normally return better results in a "coordinated team with the right team comp" - unfortunately sombra is good at too many things but exceptional at none, any other dps does more damage and any support does more healing (not sym, for obvious reasons)
One thing I wish she could do was set up light walls to either do this or set up like barriers for the covenant in halo!
Dang, Symmetra definitely viable now. I can see potential Symmetra,Torb comps on defense coming up.
I guess Widow mains are going to be pissed
Isaac Abraham No but, just wondering why blizzard is hating on her so much.
Billmasters66 I don't think they are I mean with so many projects and reiterations going on. I'm sure she's in the pipeline. Just like Symetra, they need time
nice one thanks for testing it guys
That barrier looks perfect for stopping snipers on offensive pushes.
This is how Symmetra's should work:
Gun-
The beam is fine but the charging mechanic of the orbs is kind of useless in a sense, everyone fully charges then because what is the point of small slow moving projectiles? This is what the orb charging should be:
Charging shorter- Faster moving, smaller, and less damage projectile.
150 -> 225
200 -> 300
250 -> 350
300 -> 400
400 -> 550
500 -> 650
600-> 750
A MAJOR problem with Symmetra is her ultimates and how they charge.
6 remaining- 60%
5 remaining- 50%
4 remaining- 40%
3 remaining- 30%
2 remaining- 20%
1 remaining- 10%
For the shield generator you would just get back 50% ultimate charge when you destroy it.
I would really love to see a video on how to be a better player for people who are not necessarily beginners, but still struggle with things like positioning and maybe haven't played csgo or similar games but played a lot of fps and want to aquire skill
shield generator has 30 metres range BUT it let's u keep shields after leaving its range for quite a long time
Sombra needs to be able to hack tellies and shield gens.
can just shoot and destroy them. its not designed like torbs turrets HP and repair wise
tenjek why destroy them when you could have them work for you.
D-man Bradley I know the emp will immediately counter it, but it will be nice to have the option to take it over rather than counter it.
jonnyt8524 If you take it over, that wouldn't be very useful.
I wonder why they did not say what kind of changes they would do the Symmetra during BlizzCon
Symmetra shield, Lucio speed boost, along with damage increased Winston. Sound viable?
about time! super pumped for this
Could the moving shield be shot at an enemy sniper? It should block their shots or at least force them to relocate.
Can they buff her turrets so they do more damage or have more then one health?
it's the same, you just get them much quicker
With these changes she is already incredible, lets not get ahead of ourselves.
TheLegendaryFoxFire that's the one thing they need to nerf about her
I see her mobile shield being used on attack to counter torbs/bastions to give people a few to move position.
Her teleporter still needs a tweak. As it stands, the shield generator is a better option more often than not.
In actual release, hope the buffs are implemented without the new changes first - as my fav hero i don't want a rework (which makes her much easier to use) if it's not needed.
