  • Here's Dave Draper demonstrating his top squat bar attachment device, designed after his shoulder surgery when he could no longer get his arms back and his shoulders in a comfortable squat position. NOTE: The top squat is all metal now, with rubber inserts rather than being covered in polyurethane. Here's the link to the device: www.sorinex.com/products/top-...

I will be sixty next February. I work part time on a loading dock and as recently as eight years ago had to work full time in an industrial warehouse doing hard physical labour that was equivalent to the work I did in my twenties.
Had I not conditioned myself through intense workouts in my youth and early adult years not only for difficult jobs but also for some very difficult life challenges including a period of homelessness I would not have survived. It was observing pictures of Dave Draper in the 1960's that inspired me to give bodybuilding a try.
Thanks Dave. If I ever get to California I hope to meet you.
    All the best.

We are meant to live very long healthy lives, so to me 70 isnt that old if u do whats right. This is the single best piece of equipment I have ever purchased/used outside of the actual weights themselves. Shoulder limitations prevented me from safely squatting and I was pretty much confined to leg presses. The Top Squat allowed me to once again perform the King of Exercises. Great for off/def linemen, too, as it allows strength and power development with the hands closer to football positioning.

I gave up on it after trying it once -- then tried it again the other day, and had the same issue. I'm definitely moving the handles, but it's a little hard to tell how my form is otherwise. I'm sure this product has been very helpful for lots of people; maybe I'm built funny, or maybe I'm just messing up on form!

If you use it the way Dave suggests, it starts as a high bar, ends as a high bar, but is a low bar at the bottom of the squat. The idea is to let the handles move up as you go down. This rolls the top squat down a fraction, then rolls it back up as you come up.
