- The Panasonic RF-P150D does a great job bringing the stations in with its on board DSP chip. This portable will keep you entertained by staying locked on your AM or FM station, and by delivering a wonderful sound quality from its speaker.

Features I like about this radio:
DSP is actually nice to use.
Audio quality is very pleasing to the ears on both bands.
Compact,
Horizontal form factor.
Decent battery life on Alkalines.
Tuning indicator LED.
High visibility dial.
Silver color is nice.
Features that could added or improved on:
FM stereo for headphones, or at least both ears FM Mono.
A power LED indicator. Sony does this.
Overall I am very impressed with this DSP receiver. It gets the job done, and sounds great while doing it. Sign me up for another.
Thanks for watching.

This little radio actually surprised me a lot on AM here in Germany. It's so incredibly sensitive, i have received stations all my other radios (including a what i would consider VERY sensitive chinese AM kit radio HX108-2) would not pick up. Suddenly i was aware of how much AM activity i still have in my region. So yea that alone really makes this little silver DSP cutie an absolute nobrainer. And the battery life is also insane :o I have hears you can reach over 90 hours with one load but i suppose that means only using the mono earpiece. About 38 hours on normal use should also be absolutely possible.
_I was surprised that he has a clear voice and good reception without an antenna. Bravo Panasonic._
how about the volume control? analogue dial control?
i need one as a bedtime radio and the sound volume has to be soft. it would be good if it comes with an ac adapter.
Love it. I bought for my mom when I was a teenager as a gift and we both loved it. Still have it
Your reviews are so nice! I highly appreciate your hard work on bringing classic radio reviews for radio lover's like us, which is very rare nowadays, carry on your good work 😃👍!!
One question! Panasonic RF-P150D or the Sony ICF-306 for sound quality & FM reception which one would you suggest☺️?
The Panasonic for FM Reception and the 306 for audio, but that is just me. If you wanted one or the other, get the Panasonic.
@@todderbert doubt cleared! Thanks!!😃👍
Your Welcome Suman Tah.
I just bought this radio today. The speaker is much more fuller compared to the RF-P50D. Too bad the headphone jack is only mono otherwise this would have been a completely fantastic pocket radio.
A great pocket radio with amazing natural n balanced sound, better than the rf1400 one
But after experiencing intense static noise from the volume button, it has stopped working n suddenly the radio went off.
Despite the bad ending after some years operation, when it worked it was fantastic!
Hi, I have the new verion panasonic rf u160d, really happy with it, i live in the south of spain and i can catch a lot of moroccan radios specially my favourite one medi1 radio from tangiers, and the sound is clear. I enjoy your videos thank you.
Your Welcom Uno Mas. Glad that radio is performing well for you!
Saw this model being sold for about 18 Bucks here in Germany. Definitely a no-brainer since Sony turned their classic pocket sized transistor radio models to DSP versions too and ditched the all analog circuitry sadly.
I really liked the classic radios with transistors, but unfortunately we have to get used to them and be satisfied with today's DSPs.🥺
I bought 2 stereo/mono adapters for devices like this. Readily available and not expensive. Mono plug/stereo jack.
You are so honest, ok it's a Panasonic it's not made in Japan, I personally think as long as they keep up the standard we are used to from Panasonic ok, it actually sounds bloody amazing for its size and good honest review, well done Sir 👍 Tam.
Thank you Tam. Keeping it real... :)
Great review bro👍🏻
Proud of Indonesian assembled products, I have this also works well.
Yes. my recent 2 Panasonics are from Indonesia, A Rarity!
It´s mentioned in the manual, but who reads that? The background of the tuning dial behind the orange indicator is glow-in-the-dark. Give it a short flash with a bright light and it will glow for hours. Neat feature.
The speaker sound quality is a bit fuller than RF-P50D. A cheerful cheap Panasonic DSP radio.
Thank you for your video! The public exam in Hong Kong requires us to buy a radio for listening exams, and undoubtedly we youngsters don't know how to use it. This video really helps! Unfortunately I don't know this radio is for single ear only… I may need to buy another one for exam :(
😂
Stereo/Mono adapters are available.
I didn't know they made a dsp version of this, I have a RF-P150 that's analog
I got too...analog version of panasonic rf-p150..made in indonesia
20 € in Romania. Tomorow i will buy it.❤
In my opinion this radio has a score of 4.5 out of 5. I was very pleasantly surprised and I differ from Mr. Todderbert's opinion with all due respect in that it seems much better overall than the Sony Icf-p36. First of all I like the clear, large and precise dial for such a small radio. The speaker is wonderful with a clean and clear sound, especially in FM. The band selector is correct and fulfills its function. The tuning wheel is perfect, neither too soft nor too hard. Power and volume are on the same wheel and the volume is at a good level for being so small. It must be said that it only has 150mw of power, due to its small size, but that is enough to listen to it perfectly. It takes two AA batteries that ensure a quite acceptable duration. The only negative point is the headphone jack as it is unacceptable for it to be monaural these days. This is a monumental mistake by Panasonic in their latest radio receivers and that's why I'm not giving it full marks. The telescopic antenna is a bit short but considering its great performance it is enough. Let's go to what matters, its operation. In AM it works well with great selectivity and at night it is even better. The operation of the automatic frequency control is perfect, both in AM and FM. And in FM, despite the overcrowding of stations and their proximity to each other, it works extraordinary. It is incredible that not a single station escapes him. It is something extraordinary and I recommend its purchase because it has gone very well for me.
100% agree. Panasonic has to build a sculpture of the engineers who signed a MONO output for a digital tuner in 2020's. I don't even need the real stereo I mean dual mono would be great but no... Its like a WW2 receiver output. Thanks god it has 3.5mm output terminal.
Stereo/Mono adapters are readily available. Make sure the plug is mono and the jack is stereo. The Panasonic RF-562D is the same and the adapters work great.
Any chance you also review the RF-U160D? It seems to be a recent model, probably very similar to this. It takes C size batteries. I recently got the P150D and was very surprised with selectivity and sensitivity. Much better than ICF-P26.
I got one on Amazon, again US version in a black and silver box. Came with two Panasonic alkaline batteries. Goes to 1710kHz. Like the AM/FM indicator, even if it is 'overkill'. I prefer this one to the RF-P50D. I like to set it down on a table or blanket when I'm outside. It's much easier to do this with a horizontal oriented radio. I prefer the ICF-P36 to the ICF-P26 by Sony for example. I too wish everyone would adopt the Sangean SR-35 style antennas. The Sony/Panasonic blade type antennas are a joke. And if you forget what you have in your hand, you risk twisting a Sony or Panasonic radio's antenna out of shape! Indonesian manufacturing doesn't seem to be on par with Chinese manufacturing. All in all, I like this cheap little radio. It's light, I like that. I like the looks, it sounds okay, runs a long time, doesn't cost much, great to take with you when you don't want to ruin a better radio outside, for example.
Sasvim sam zadovoljan ovim radiom, steta sto su u Srbiji mnoge radio stanice pogasene na AM pa slušam samo na FM.
Like your videos but I think you need to change the sound test music occasionally
What would you recommend. Which one has better sound and longer battery life and better durability? The sony icf-026 or the panasonic RF-P150D? The purpose is to listen to the radio in the forest when hiking and at home.
Sony.
@@todderbert I live in europe but can i get american channels on both of the radios or can i install it somehow or is that not possible? So which one has the longest range and which one can pick up more channels from around the world?

@@todderbert one little question. What is the difference with AM and FM feature? And does your sony icf p26 still work after all these years
Great video! I have the little bit bigger RF-U155 , I have a lot of radios and its one of my favorites. there is a RF-U160 too but i don't know what the difference is between the two are
Thanks George. Will see if I can find that 155.
I have version for Europe. Sold in cardboard box without batteries. But AM to 1710 kHz.
I understand it's mono sound, but even mono sound comes out of both earphones or speakers. Why, in this case, only one earphone is working. Always been curious about this. Thanks to anyone who answers. Much appreciated!
That's a design failure.
I got the same question, I thought i was supposed to hear from both sides, but only the left side is playing. Anyone knows why?
See my other replies. Adapters are available.
Mine is having Intermittent sound loss. Any idea what is going on?
Panasonic RF-P50 vs sangean SR-35 any comparison on this i listen to mainly FM and mainly classical music. the pana 150D sounds abit bright but in real life is okay? i can't decided between which, will like your inputs. as reference, i love the tone of the Tivoli Model one!
Sangean for FM, Panasonic for AM.
@@todderbert thanks mate!! and so i will get the sangean :)
Hey todderbert, great videos. I've been watching several and I thought this radio would be perfect ... except for the mono-headphone port. Why is this a thing? Why not just play the mono-source on both ears? So my actual question is: Can you recommend me a pocket radio that is basically as good as this one PLUS sound on both sides of a headphone? thank you much!
Good day, how many radio stations do you catch? and what is your score 3 or 4 points?
probably a slightly above average radio, three stars. but it is dsp, which can be tricky to tune.
Todderbert, Panasonic RF-P150D vs Sangean SR-35
SR-35 has the best speaker in small, handheld radio category. Period. It is a quality radio. You will not be disappointed.
Very nice & well explained review😃👍!! One question! This rf-p150d or Sony icf-p36 which one is better for FM reception & sound quality?
The Panasonic wins those catagories.

Which one is best reception RF P50 OR RF P150 or P150D?
What is the difference between P150 and P150D?
The D stands for DSP. Most people find the D models to be superior to the normal analog versions. The 150D is amazing on the reception front and trounces the P50D. Probably because it has a larger internal ferrite antenna for the MW band.

Hi, great review. Do you know a same size radio with a stereo headphone jack?
Stereo is a rare item indeed. you can get smaller radios, but they will sound tinny. My favorite of the week has to be the Sayin SY-8801 now with Shortwave, at Amazon amzn.to/3fokOlc . If you don't listen to the AM band much the XHDATA D-368 is awesome on FM Stereo with Headphones, at Amazon amzn.to/3BTkfrh . The D-368 is factory locked at 9kHz tuning on the AM band.
Hey, I got the radio today and I'm not sure I wanna keep it. Is its sound quality considered good? You have a lot of radios to compare to, is this what I can expect from a pocket radio or are there better sounding alternatives? Thx
There is the Prunus J-166 AM FM version that has great audio. The Sangean SR-35 also has a decent speaker.
@@todderbert Thx, but can you recommend a radio that has battery AND can be plugged in for power supply? That's also why I want to send back the Panasonic, I forgot I needed non-battery support, too, because I'll use it at home most of the time. Thx

Hello my friend, can I use rechargeable batteries in this small device?
How i can find red 96.3?
Could you do a video explaining DSP tuning vs step tuning? Or is that simply the same thing with different marketing names? Thanks for all the interesting videos!
DSP and step tuning are similar. A step tuned receiver uses a DSP chip. Hence the steps heard as you adjust the tuner across the analog styled dial.
@Todderbert, I'm seeing your reviews for last few months. Can you tell me will this be better for inside building listening to FM channels? I've a new Toshiba TX-PR20 but it catches only one station well. Thanks

I have this Panasonic radio and a Sangean SR-35. Which would you say has better DSP chip between these two?

Panasonic seems to make a good quality radio but they all seem to be analog would like to see them use their expertise in manufacturing radios to make more suffocated digital radios like Tecsun and Sangean. I agree $20 seems like a more suitable price for this radio there are a lot of quite good radios that you and Two Hands have reviewed that can be had for under $20.
