Is it possible that the Sony is a better radio with a narrow selective tuner vs a wide range dialing of the panasonic for a station? I dont have either radio , just a comment..
Thank you! This video was actually perfect because I already have that Sony radio, and I have loved it, but I just ordered that Panasonic radio today. I came here in hopes that this video would clarify that it was worth it to get the Panasonic radio. I got the Panasonic because the Sony radio was over 45 bucks and I am afraid to take it out of the house so it doesn’t get damaged. The Panasonic looked like a rougher, cheaper radio (possibly with better reception) so it would be perfect to take places, such as to go camping. I also love that the Panasonic looks like a 70s-80s radio, because I love the 80s. I am 14 and I am redoing my bedroom a rustic vintage look, and I figured the Panasonic would match the style hence its vintage look.
I hope you like the audio, I like to listen to the AM band and found the tone of the speaker to be a bit off and fatiguing for me to listen to. But that might just be my personal preference.
Update: I just received my Panasonic radio today, and I have to say I am very happy with it! I will most likely keep the antenna and handle up since it does not fold into the radio, but it really looks like a 70s or 80s radio and it is perfect! I am sure it will be great for camping trips since it has a good reception (probably better than my Sony radio). Very appealing, sounds great, volume knob is a bit iffy, but it is overall amazing. Once my room is finished getting redone and I get a television set from the 80s, my room will look like a nostalgic and vintage bedroom.
hello, today I ordered a SONY icf-506 Panasonic, I have three, a Panasonic RF-2400, a Panasonic RF-2400 DEG-K and a Panasonic 3500 E9-K, I'm very satisfied with all of them, but I said I'd also try a SONY, which I also ordered. Thank you for the videos you make, they are very OK and help us a lot in buying a radio.
This is good news for us Panasonic fans. I also like the look of the Panasonic better. $ 10.oo is a big difference for such little difference in performance.
Sony may have noticed this also and dropped its price some..or Amazon. The price of the 506 is now $36.00, closing up some of that price gap between the two...it could be a temporary price reduction too. Amazon loves to do that.
AFTER BUYING THE PANASONIC FIRST 2 WEEKS IN ADVANCE I GOT THE SONY THE PANASONIC MORE BASE BUT SONY BEATS IT ON BOTH AM AND FM SENSITIVITY AND REAL WORLDS LISTENING TOO,,,, I GIVE IT ALL TO THE SONY HANDS DOWN MYSELF ,AND IM A PANASONIC FAN ,WHO KNOWS I MIGHT HAD A FREAK ,BUT I WENT AND BOUGHT ANOTHER SONY FOR MYSELF AS I BOUGHT FIRST ONE FOR MY FRIEND.........

I have the Panasonic RF-2400 and the Retekess V115. What would be the next good radio to add to this collection? I also have a Grundig Mini world 100 PE and an Insignia NS-SH513 FM bluetooth receiver.
Been a long time since I commented on one of your videos! I just got the Panasonic RF-2400D and am loving it so far! I was using the Sony ICF-506 at work for a almost a year and it performed great for being in a building with steel construction. But unfortunately a coworker spilled something corrosive on my work bench and didn't tell me. Needless to say the Sony was trashed 🤬. I replaced it with the RF-2400D and I'm able to pick up more stations on AM and especially FM! I think I'll put the Panasonic in the draw at night before I head back home everyday 😆. Oh also Try to find a Panasonic RF-559 it's another cheap dime a dozen radio that sounds awesome like the 542 does!
I have the 2400 hundred and have owned Sony radios Sony electronics Is some of the best. However there mechanical parts knobs switchs pots on tone and volume controls ware out and go bad
Very good review getting the reviewers opinion means much more to me than listening to the tuning process. You have the radios right there in front of you and you can tell much better than us listening to the tuning process. The more detailed your opinion the better. I still enjoy watching you play with the radios and seeing what stations you pick up it just is your opinion is more meaningful.
Thanks, I play through the bands alot...I actually started shooting this video playing back and forth through the band and it was so boring, because each radio kept finding the same stations...there was no excitement factor :) I'm glad you value my opinion.
The Panasonic "shows" a bit better on reception, but the problem is that it does nos use big D batteries, the FOUR AA batteries chosen by the electronic engineerings maybe are not the best way for improve its autonomy.
The Sony uses 3 AA cell as well. AA cell is the way to go in providing a balance between capacity and size, D cells are becoming harder to find locally and they are expensive and much heavier regardless if they are the one use or rechargeable NiMH options.
Great video 👍🏻Hi I want a good radio for the kitchen & garden,I want one with good volume as a lot of reviews complain that the volume isn’t loud enough .Any I’d ice appreciated thanks from 🇬🇧🤗
Go with the ICF-19, should be plenty of volume since it utilizes D cell batteries versus AAs. Only issue is that you have to use D cells, there is no AC option. ruclips.net/video/b-wWXryEfe8/видео.html
2400=All Analog Tuning. 2400D=DSP, Digital Tuning using an Analog Dial. Usually DSPs are great on FM, and all analog tuning is a treat on the AM/MW band.
Does Sony make anything with a cord like the ICF-506 that has weather band? Seems like a lot of these multi function radios have been discontinued by the big brands.
Thanks - been looking at lots of radios like these on AZ - for my 84 Y-O Dad who loves radios but tuning may be a struggle, needs to be a slower, fine tune kind of knob. Too quick / touchy he would struggle with the fine motions
I love your videos, man! Overall, the best made radio review videos online. One question (because I forgot what you said in your other videos), are both these radios DSP tuning?
I rescued my Panasonic from a thrift store and am a radio nut. I like to DX AM but mostly listen to local stations,. My impressions of the RF-2400 are high, especially on AM and at it's price point. It has good sound for it's size, not as good as my belated GE Superadio III with it's larger speaker, cabinet and tweeter. It is easy to tune and the dial is the right size, not too big like the GE or too small like some radios. The Sony has digital signal processing which may explain the different way it tunes in stations. With that setup you have to tune slowly and sometimes try a few times then it holds them well. Maybe my radio has a problems, but FM is pitiful. Lots of images and the antenna makes little difference. My tuning condenser has an issue and it sometimes gets scratchy around 800kHz but likely only on my radio. If I were to buy a radio to replace this, I would consider another RF-2400 but would consider others such as this Sony too.

Today I have a nice retro Philips AE5020/12 radio. I like its aesthetics and its sound, but for me Sony is better. The problem I have with this radio is that it consumes a lot of batteries. I've tried all kinds of batteries, including rechargeable batteries and they don't last very long. It's not a model problem, Sony and other digital brands and with Dab+ also consume a lot of battery. In Spain, the Dab+ system only broadcasts in some cities, not yet in mine, with a population of 103,477 inhabitants. Therefore, I need a portable and analog radio and that the batteries last. In my country there is a price difference of €18 between the Panasonic RF-2400D and the Sony ICF-506, Panasonic being the cheapest. And on Amazon the difference is €23. Good video.

I have sifted through Amazon for portable Radio and I ended up with Panasonic RF-2400D...I hope you enjoy yours as well...
Any idea what's the difference between the 2400, 2400D and 2400DEG-K?
Most of all, do they all have an analog tuner?

The regular 2400 is a pure analog tuner, the 2400D series is a DSP, which will have a stepped tuning method.

Mono vs stereo fm?
All are FM Mono.
Panasonic RF2400 vs Panasonic RF2400D
What's the difference?
The RF2400 is Analog and the RF2400D is DSP. The DSP tends to give better selectivity & sensitivity from my location.

What's the difference between this type of radio and a Retekess V-115 they are at the same price in my country witch type is more accurate?
The V-115 is good for FM, MP3 Playback, and Line-In Recording. The two radios here will outperform the V-115 on AM and FM.
Have you reviewed the Sony ICF -F10? I may have missed it. The Panasonic is a good radio for the money. And it has an electric cord.
