Diana, Princess of Wales was the mother of a future King, and should be taken home in this manner. What else could he have done? At first, Queen Elizabeth II didn't want anybody from the Royal Family to pick up Diana's body, because technically, she was no longer a Royal. Prince Charles argued with his mother with such conviction she finally allowed him to go. There was a cook who worked for the royals, they were rude, snobby, unappreciate of his kind and thoughtful ways, which Diana showed. Now that she is gone, how love lingers in memory for her, Camilla and Charles will never have. Always wondered if her boys were able to see her in her casket and felt like they should have (maybe they did) to help them with some sort of closure. I dislike the word "closure" but my nephew was brutally murdered however, the mortuary was able to put him together so that we could view his body and that helped a little bit.
