Haven't heard this yet but only liked two tracks from the prior Above Cirrus: "Phantoms" & "Dead Butterfly". Their older The Dark Third & Hammer And Anvil are very good records...Some other new ones: Soul Asylum/Slowly But Shirley (OK) Richie Kotzen/Nomad - that's a good one Steve Howe/Guitarscape - meh Train/Live At Royal Albert Hall Mike Stern/Echoes And Other Songs Taj Farrant/Chapter One And a whole bunch that just hit my In box but haven't heard 'em yet including: Eric Bell - Remembering: Anthology 1996-2017 (5 disks!) Thin Lizzy - 1976 (Super Deluxe Edition) (5 disks!) Big Big Train - A Flare On The Lens (Live) Band Of The Underhand - A Cheap Ride To Heaven Elder - Live At BBC Maida Vale Studios
Pete, their first album, The Dark Third, is a top favorite of mine. I implore you to check it out, I think it's head and shoulders their best. Same type of vibe, maybe a bit more proggy.
This may seem weird to some, but despite all the comparisons between the two, I've never liked Porcupine Tree, despite giving several albums of their's a fair chance. But I've become a big fan of the Pineapple Thief. Other than being on the same label and having the same drummer at a certain point, I just don't see the similarities that everyone else seems to. Pineapple Thief has a different feel to their music - less quirky and more melodic & subtle than Porcupine Tree. The pieces fit together better with Pineapple Thief for me, whereas Porcupine can be more jarring & disjointed. Plus I find Bruce Soord to be a better vocalist & lyricist. Honestly, I didn't give The Pineapple Thief a fair listening for a long time because all I ever heard about then was that they were a complete clone of Porcupine Tree & Wilson.
@@soundsandvisionsHQ I like both bands. However, I have never understood why anyone would be of the opinion that they sound similar. The only link I know of is Gavin Harrison.
My favourite "progressive band".... For me they've mostly been Floyd meets Massive Attack with a bit of Muse. I have tickets for their December shows. The first time I will have seen them since they split in 2011. (So long as the other John Sykes is MIA, there is only one John Sykes, and it's this one)

Thanks for the positive review & taking the time to listen 🖤 Appreciate it 🙌
Pete, you should listen to above cirrus & eupnea. Those two are really good!
lol glad I wasn't the only one to hear Pete say "Pineapple Tree"...maybe it is a NEW band that we haven't heard of
It's a Bruce Soord/Steven Wilson supergroup.
Pineapple Thief

Richie Kotzen for the win.

"Pineapple Tree" is a good inadvertent description, Pete. Or perhaps "Porcupine Thief"?
lol! Guess I combined the two.
Could be that Gavin Harrison has started his own band 😊

Hi Pete! Speaking of Anathema, are you planning on reviewing the new Weather Systems album?
Yep
The cracked jewel 💎 case: no do / no do. LOL. I know your like myself, we don’t like it !! Thanks again for all your time on these reviews 👍💯
I really liked their first couple albums then they kind of lost me. I`ll have to check out this new one.
Good album
Lmao. Not the John Sykes from the “ milk 🥛 carton” classic.
You've arrived at a mellow point in their catalogue Pete 😂 check out the beginning and you will get the big picture.
