My beloved fathers favorite song. When it came on in the 60s on the radio he would pull over & dance around the car with 5 of us kids laughing so hard we cried & mom shaking her head.

Sad news indeed. Well, at 89 he lived pretty well. Nevertheless, what a shame that life cannot last longer - especially keeping us in an acceptable physical condition. Barefooting excited and attracted several artists, but Parker has the original and most flamboyant version. Being helped by this beautiful green barefoot dancing girl. Pure nature, pure charm !Yves

Regret to hear of his passing. I was also going to Google to see is was still alive. But at 89 he live a Long life. I always wondered who sang this song, I have always loved this song. But I was a little disappointed, to hear the song, in my head I was seeing some smiling and having fun with the song. But he was just straight faced, no smiling, no having fun with it. But I still love the song. And him singing it, he did a good job with it.

The lyrics are well written and captivating, exposing at once in the 1st verse the contrast in behavior between staying a passive listener in one’s seat and ”getting on our feet”, body in motion.
Then I love the way he connects his ‘infectious’ song with other R’n’B classics, Little Richard’s ”Long Tall Sally” making a remarked appearance in verse 2, while the intriguing ”girl with the red dress on” from Ray Charles’s ”What’d I say” is also present in verse 3, letting it all hang out and barefootin’ too! :)
And he wraps it up with a ”Boy meets Girl” last verse with a fresh turn-around (she’s been barefootin’ since age 2, buddy!).
Indeed it can never go out of style with such infectious and well-played r’n’b music and so much wit in the lyrics! Hail, hail, Robert Parker, passed away at a respectable age, but yes, living on among us with this little masterpiece! \o/

Man ! That’s the stuff right there !! Having grown in North Louisiana and a teenager in the early 1960s..Soul and Rhythm-n-blues was predominantly influential…All the local bands rocked this style with the Wicked Picket and Joe Tex….Thanks for sharing…I did sing along as I did when 14…and of course we did the the dance, the Mashed Potato and the dance floor standard. The Pony…oh and FYI we grew up going bare footed all summer the minute school as out…”WE’RE BARE FOOTIN’ “ !

Yeah Baby! I bought this record when it hit in '66. Great! And, yeah, The Beat! with LAC's DJ Hoss Allen - great Nashville R&B/Blues station, which is still going but is now "talk radio" (what a come down!). Right about Gatemouth Brown as band leader and Billy Cox on bass. Although the 335 Gibson cat looks and moves like Freddy/Freddie King, I don't think so - he's not wearing his gtr strap over his right shoulder and is using a flat pick. Also, this song is sync'd - not live, but perfectly done. Robert is still with us at 89 yrs (!) And...the chick in the green is great - actually doing the Mashed Potatoes, but with some foot modifications. Cool show and a cool clip

"A few months after their triumph at Roosevelt High, the Jackson
Five won the Annual Talent Search. Once again Michael stole the
    show.
His moment of glory came during the boys’ rendition of the Robert
Parker hit, “Barefootin’,” on which Michael sang lead. During the
instrumental break, he suddenly kicked off his shoes and did the
darnedest barefoot dance around the stage." - Katherine Jackson

When "Bare Footin'" was released, I was trying to teach myself guitar, but I struggled with different rock and roll styles. THEN, I heard "Bare Footin' on the radio of my 1956 Mercury, while I was crusing down Hwy 99 in Central California. My search for "The Sound" was over! That magical blend of rock, blues, and soul was everything I wanted. Eventually I got my hands on a red Gibson 335 guitar, and started playing "The Sound" professionally for the next 20 years, thanks to that querky, rhythm and blues tune, "Bare Footin'."

I remember hearing this song in some of the "Spic 'n' Span" commercials back in the early 1980's. What can I say? Robert Parker is a genius at songwriting and music arranging!
