"You wanna be a real hero, here's what you do: You get back down there and put the pieces together. You find a way to forgive yourself for what happened to your wife. You make things right with your daughter. And you carry on serving your country. That'll take some real guts". Brilliant, brilliant words from George Mason in his dying, final moments. And how Jack reflects on these wise words is just priceless. 24 is just the best show EVER.
Serving his country ruined his life beyond repair. The high-up suits used him and threw him away. That’s why I always DESPISED Heller. What a cold hearted POS.

@@Chris155auanother was just before showering on décontamination chamber after being radiated by plutonium on Panorama City deposit. The operator guy asked foe Georgebro be fully naked, and he retaliated by "Without even an invitation to dinner". Something like that. Subtle second degree humor. Stuck well at his character i think.
I think George was a better character than Ryan Chapelle. More of a complex character, funny, a bit arrogant and they even showed a vulnerable side of him. Multi layered. That line was great lol.
Actually, I wouldn't say that. He did originally run away to escape the nuke threat, leaving behind his responsibilities as Director of the agency charged with stopping it! He was dying anyway, there really was no other option but for him to spare the life of a TRUE hero, that being Jack Bauer! No, 24 had greater heroes than Mason.
I'll put Bill Buchanan on that list. He sacrificed himself to save the people in the White House. Mason turned out ultimately a hero, much like Lynn McGill. Milo turned out pretty brave too
Greatest episode of entire 24 series. Dialogues, weight of the plot at the moment, weight of the chatacters fate under life/death situation + global threat + ending of important character + subtiles quotes around life + SOUNDTRACK. 2x15 still greatest. Also funny thing, but every episodes between 10-11pm mark were all absolute bangers. First season with tension building for the end, last dialogue between Jack/Teri + Palmer & Jack blow off scene where Drazen were convinced during short amount of time finally getting the result of all their schemes done + soundtrack + one of most shocking turn reveal of all-time as Nina being the MOLE. Season 3, Jack + Nina lone confrontation + Hector/Ramon final culimination of rivalry for leadership coming to ineluctable fate. Season 4: the episode on the rush where Jack and CTU finally connect next target..for the first time, US president itself on AirForce One is threatened. And the final deliver: Jack cannot stop Anderson to attacking Air Force One. Jack is shellshocked. Don't remember for others seasons but for 4 first seasons, 10-11pm seems to be must watch. The golden hour where writters found their best feather.
I like the order George goes in when he tells Jack what he has to do. First, Jack has to forgive himself. He'll never have a good life if he can't accept what happened to Teri. Second is Kim, who while is the most important thing to Jack, they'll never have a good relationship if Jack doesn't forgive himself first. And only third comes his country, which while important, is still behind his daughter.
Mason might not've been the most idealistic of all CTU directors, the kind that "wants results but don't wanna get their hands dirty", but he was willing to give what was left of his own life to allow Jack to continue doing his job while making things right with himself and his dear ones, so he inspires great respect. "And That takes some real guts"
George was a very good man doing this for Jack. I will miss his character and I know he was a prick at times but then I got use to him being that way. George is just being himself and that's what makes him an interesting character and is a good man too.
Sean Callery music is just amazing. And I liked the recommandations George gave to Jack. That part was one of the greatest in the whole series. I miss George.
24 writers have the ingenuity of making the deaths of what could be considered 'annoyingly bureaucratic' characters be very touching. Mason, Chapelle, McGill to name a few. Even Erin, though she didn't die, you gotta feel when but specially how she left.
The sad part is that Jack didn't put the pieces together. By the next season he had a heroin addiction because he still couldn't handle what he'd been through.

This show was the breaking bad of its time.
Xander Berkeley saves his best work on 24 for his last scene.

Best show ever the writers and directors were beyond imaginable
" You want to be a real hero? You go back and you put the pieces together.......That'd take some real guts."

true.
"Jack... I'm supposed to do this..." one of the best, understated lines of all time.
They don't make television shows like this anymore, amazing scene.
Except for squid game maybe.
"The service is bad enough on this plane; you don't have to shoot me."😂
Great line!

agree i love mason and wish he was on longer but jack is the biggest hero

This scene, combined with the scene right before; Jack saying goodbye to Kim... Streams of tears down my face... Awesome TV series right here!
So true!

i love Jack's silence cause he knows what George is saying is true
Two great guys both ready to die for their nation, what an awesome people.
George meson was real idiot.
He wants to run from the bomb.
If he wasnt expose of the redioactive he was still the same lazy asshole.
He was a coward but also he was a real goood man, i think he regretted the way he lived his life and just wanted to do a last service saving jack

We see Jack does that when he tells Kate not to blame herself for Marie.
Arguably the best scene in the show
Micah Blitenthal arguably? Try IS the best scene in the show
Season 2 Episode 15 is still one of the best of all time

When the gentle music plays when he says unless u wanna die summing up jacks depression

Before this, no one had ever successfully completed the pilot switch. In the middle ages, you could be locked up for even suggesting it.
Middle ages?
Is this a Seinfeld reference?
Yup.
Seinfeld reference how?
Another one of my favorite shows of all time, along with this one. "So what's the deal with enhanced interrogation methods? I don't get!"
Sean Callery music is just amazing. And I liked the recommandations George gave to Jack. That part was one of the greatest in the whole series. I miss George.
George Mason was my favorite director. I don't remember anyone else, but I remember him.
Love this scene.
I didn't like Mason that much until this scene. A great end to a relatively minor character that cemented him as a hero.
I mean he wasn't that minor. Had a pretty big role towards the end of season 1 and all throughout season 2.
"Thank you , George. Thank you."
Todd from Terminator 2 finally gets some redemption.

"Jack, I'm supposed to do this."
Aaaaaand I'm crying. Ugh George... I ended up loving that guy
"You are absolutely sure you can do this?"
"Jack I'm supposed to do this."
Radiation turned George Mason into an absolute boss.
Great hero in George Mason. He knew he would die anyway but do so like a hero
The sad part is that Jack didn't put the pieces together. By the next season he had a heroin addiction because he still couldn't handle what he'd been through.
he did because he need be used when he went undercover with Salazar
Incorrect. He got addicted to heroin because he felt he needed to in order for the Salazars to trust he was on their side.
@@dksoulstice6040 That's a nice way of saying they would magdump him if Jack had shown signs that he's not used to the heroin.
LIttle does he know, Jack's life only gets even more fucked up after this.
