If you look in the playtesters section of the rule book you will see me and my dad (jim)'s names, he is the one that came up with the red boarder on the rooms that can negatively affect other rooms so they are easier to notice.
This was stressing me out just watching it and then you gave such a high review. I was surprised. It looks like a game I would only play if someone else had it already.
I like this game too. Nothing too crazy and yeah, the scoring intimidates a lot of people but once you get a rhythm to it, there's a lot of clever decision making.
This is a game that's in a weird category for me. I'd be up for playing at but don't feel the need to add it to my collection. Very fun though. Even though I suck at it.
Imagine a game like this but then as like an end phase or something you have to use your created castle as a playing field the opposing player has to dungeon-crawl through 👀
Sounds cool! Ludwig is one of those great figures of the 19th Century. We would never have the excellent music of Richard Wagner if he never sponsored him. It’s a shame he died so tragically.
If you want chaos, get Castles of the Mad King Ludwig. If you want order, get Suburbia (SimCity... er, Cities Skylines, the board game, by the same designer and is the prequel to Mad King Ludwig). Palace of the Mad King Ludwig should also arrive around February 2018, but I heard mixed opinions on it.
I remember seeing this video and then played this game at a board game cafe with friends. It is a very good game but it is a huge pain in the ass to put together and I feel like you explained the game better than the actual instructions because me and my friends fumbled through it a bit before we got it. You also need a large enough table to accommodate the playing field but we did feel like this is the sort of game that becomes more enjoyable on a second playthrough now that you know what you're doing.
I played this several times with a guy who had built all of his pieces custom by himself. They weren't any different from the pieces you see here, just hand cut and made. Why? He made it himself from photocopies while in prison. He kept all of his games when he got out. The guys on the inside must have been much more bored once he was released.
This is one of my favourite games. Setting up and packing away using the supplied bags is pretty tedious though. I made a foam-core insert to keep everything organised, and now we can be ready to play in about a minute! boardgamegeek.com/article/27058969

Got this game last year for Christmas and it became immediately one of my favorites!

This is my gramma's favorite game. I need to play it again next time I see her.

Ah, Castles of the Mad King Ludwig. An analysis paralysis player nightmare :)
