We live on a wooded 43 acre lot on a river. It is "extremely well posted" (actual quote from the local sheriff. We have an outdoor firearms range on our property as well. We even put signs up warning of the range. People walk right past the signs to access the river, build campfires, have get togethers etc. Two years ago, in one weekend..Friday night to Sunday evening, we had the local sheriff's department take over 100 people off the property. There were groups of people in groups ranging from 2 people to 10 or more, including a church day camp of kids and counselors. It took us 6 consecutive weeks of daily removals to actually stop the problem. I guess the word spread. We occasionally still have problems but I bought 4 additional signs that read:
    PRIVATE PROPERTY, NO TRESPASSING
WE ARE RUNNING OUT OF ROOM TO BURY THE BODIES

I dealt with this on my last property. It was nerve wracking and I tried everything. I received some incredible advice from the local constable and it solved the problem in one day. In Pennsylvania, there is State Law 1772 which makes defiant trespass punishable by up to a year in jail and $2,500 in fines. I marked the trees lining my 18 acres with purple paint every 100 feet (per the requirements) but I also ordered signs at each entrance which said, "Per House Law 1772, defiant trespass is punishable by up to a year in jail and $2,500 in fines. Violators WILL be prosecuted". i really didn't expect it to work because I had a horrible problem with folks but it did the job. Check out your state laws in regard to hunting and trespassing laws on private land. I hope this helps someone dealing with this problem.

I love Pennsylvania! But I'm stuck in NYS 😭 My neighbor ripped out my fences, chainsawed my mature landscaping, destroyed my garden boxes then set fire to the debris. What didn't burn, he threw onto another section of mh land. He did this after sharing a property boundary with me for almost 20 years but took the opportunity, when I was most vulnerable last spring, to accuse me of stealing "his" land.
Long story short, the NYS Troopers FINALLY arrested him but only after I paid for a new survey (which supported my position) and the Broome County District Attorney office decided they woukd charge the neighbor with "Criminal Mischief" (a misdemeanor) and request he reimburse me for $250 in damages. I had the neighbor on video threatening my property and he admitted to the police he had done these things. The actual value of the damages is more than 10 times what the D.A. is requesting of him. Now he's claiming he's not guilty.
Suing him in civil court will cost me more than it's worth. He had his fun tormenting me all last year. I abided by the laws and the police. It was to my detriment.
Posted signs are worthless. NY protects criminals, and screws those victimized by the criminals. Years of sweat equity and memories of gardening with my late daughter...destroyed by a NYS criminal and a useless District Attorney.
      I hate NYS.

But, the neighbor thinks because I've always been civil and friendly, that I was going to crumble under his bullying. No. He's confused kindness with weakness. Big mistake on his part. He'll find out the hard way.

I fought it for seven years. Two people turned into forty people in less than a year and that number grew thereafter. I spent almost 100% of my time chasing after them 24/7 on my property. It takes a toll. L.E. can't do much about it. The trespassers would shoot deer and leave them to rot on my property, destroy my cameras, tear down my "No Trespassing" signs, and other despicable acts. I'm sure you know who you're dealing with and I'm not here to preach to you. I'm only saying that you would not be weak to walk away during this time because soon you will have zero backup municipally if it comes to that. Either way, I wish you the best.

I grew up on a ranch in Kansas that was huge. We had a private road that cut through the property, had been there for decades before we bought the place. My dad found it necessary to secure it with steel gates that he welded himself, set into concrete-filled steel posts set six feet into the ground (the gates were very heavy and needed a winch to set them in place) because we had so many trespassers on our land. People just don't respect other people's property any more, and for some reason, folks from town seem to think everything they see in the country is wilderness. We had people hunting and fishing on our land, even gathering fruit from our peach and plum orchards, on fenced land, in full view of NO TRESPASSING/NO HUNTING/NO FISHING signs. And of course they'd leave behind trash (and sometimes dump trash on our land because hey, the county dump charges a fee).
Our gate didn't have an electric eye etc: you had to get out and manually push it aside, and even on well-oiled hinges, it took some effort to move after you removed the two padlocks and a chain as thick as your wrist.
I remember Robert Frost's poem and while Frost wasn't a big fan of fences himself, good fences DO make good neighbors. And strong gates make even better ones.

The police know but are not allowed without proof where the drugs are hiding. They steal outdoor solar lights, steal gas out of lawn mowers, they steal landscape Rocks! Stole bucket of gravel when I had my new driveway put in! I'm sick of it .I have cameras but they know where they are and go around out of sight the red light. I need cameras to cover cameras so they don't throw rocks at the camera to destroy it, as I have had to put them on top of my house! These people need a newer home smaller then a tiny home with indoor plumbing and only 1 bed. My son said to put up a electric fence. Great idea if it's not against the law and you can't get sued if they climb it and get shocked. And , I don't have the money for over ....acres of land. I bought the Largest No Trespassing signs. I have a way to protect myself. I have an alarm system. But I am dealing with Drug addict's. A drug addict sent her son on his bicycle over to steal a cable used to cut down a tree. The tree was still on it. She told him if he is asked what he was doing to say he was going to help his friend who was stuck on my pond!! Really???? I worked almost 17yrs for the local water department and you can bend a piece of wire. At a 90degree angle like 6" to hold loosely in your fist and 12-14" sticking out and holding it down enough to where it centers itself. Only thing is it will turn on any lines like water, power, communication lines. You can even walk under a over head power line and it will turn. And if water is flowing good through a water line it will turn the direction of flow. You don't even need two and I think copper pulls harder but I have used clothes hangers and wire from the marking flags and all works.

When I was a kid we lived on 350 acres, the road in was posted where city maintenance ended, and about every 50 yards or so for the half mile of road, on both sides, the rest of the way to where our driveway began and then 3 more signs along the 1/4 mile long driveway. We would still get strangers pulling up from time to time looking for something or lost or trying to fish the ponds and stock tanks, and possibly even checking to see what was out there and what they could steal. It was different times in a very rural location so we weren't ever afraid or anything like that, but it was hilarious to us that people would ignore all those signs along with the many visible ques that nobody was supposed to be there and it definitely wasn't a through road or anyplace anyone trying to go anywhere else would logically end up.
