In Arena when I was a noob, I met the pirate that ended up being my 1st mate in the Crew/Clan that we built later that has lasted about 14 months at this point. Glad I got TSD on that LAST DAY OF ARENA! RIP ARENA!
This video made me want to cry. I too was playing right before they shut down. I had so many missed opportunities to play due to getting temp banned multiple times due to the servers merging and kicking me out of the games right as they started. It was so discouraging because I wasn't able to get a lot of commendations due to I think at least 6 30 minute bans. Super discouraged to this day and seeing this video brought back memories from my crew. Such a shame they had to get rid of it so soon. For someone who started to really love the gamemode, it is so unfortunate. Also, Rare did a terrible job of letting the players know when they were getting rid of it, and should have let players know at least at the start of the season rather than a month before.
Woah this video is 1000 times better than a similar one I saw where they went "We won the last arena!" which...is probably what the guy from the blue galleon was thinking. Just from seeing this video I wish I had played more Arena. And it looks like it was quite the shame they decided to mute everyone in it.

Something important that people might not notice is that this all happened spontaneously. Rare hated arena so much that they muted us all so we had no way to communicate with each other, yet we still all went to the same spot for a song and dance. It was beautiful.

After the shutdown, I had the idea that ships that wanted to play Arena, could meet at the Arena in Adventure mode with the received ship cosmetics and play there for fun. There would be no chest ofc tho. And chances of meeting enough people/ships on a random server to do this are relatively low I would guess. Only sth for private servers then. And we don't know if the Arena in Adventure mode will be changed. I hope it stays and will be reformed to sth more useful, but who knows.

Honestly before they 'rewoked' arena the game mode seemed to be more popular since you could have multiple chest and it involved more freedom in desicions and the map was bigger after the update there was one chest and it got way too constricted and people would just use the easier method of just shooting their cannons to get points. Honestly I think the reason why arena failed was because of how little effort rare put in it saldy
No, they showed up because we wanted to say farewell and I recorded it for prosperity. Nobody in the video had any idea they were being recorded. Not even my own crew.
@chrisplant8009 it's a long complicated story but in a game like SoT it's the players who make the game what it is, rare wanted us to be nice to each other so they could get Disney to invest in them, but we were swearing and being toxic to each other just as "friendly banter" They did everything they could to change the atmosphere and eventually they just abandoned it. Frustrated that the main player base didn't join often and the arena crowd were seen by everyone else as toxic and nasty. The truth is we were an honourable bunch at heart, there were unwritten rules that we would punish you for breaking. I dunno man, there's so much more to it that I haven't even touched on here. It was a long battle between the core players and the developers. Eventually the developers decided to rage quit :P
A large portion of the reason arena failed is because of rare. I wish they tried to rework it again or expand on it more instead of just dropping it. Oh well
