As a broke Lazy Retro Boy, I just wanted to say that my Royal Enfield runs great and my beard and my flannel keep me toasty on those early season Midwest rides. Also I wish I could afford a Triumph but I’ll settle for putting miles on my interceptor.

Most "retro motorcycle riders" have done the sport bike thing, sometimes for decades, and learned a little secret that you too will arrive at some day Yam. It's 99% as fun to ride a slow bike fast (or even slow) as it is to rip around on a liter bike at 10/10. So sooner or later you too will slow down, buy a mellow standard, and enjoy the ride 🙂

My dad is a panigale guy and complains about being able to go 200 mph. Also his hip. Also how hot the thing runs even at 60mph it's trying to fry you. I listened and bought an older bike with 60hp and an upright seating position. ( 92 yamaha xj600s) He didn't and bought a v4s after owning every panigale missile possible. 1099 1199 1299. He doesn't learn but that's what I'm for to learn from his mistakes. I enjoy my ride. He enjoys running from the cops maybe sorta he toatally doesn't run... He fucking flys away.

I think an old UJM bike is the way to go for starting out. Teaches you to work on engines which saves you money down the road, and the old tech keeps you from pushing yourself before you are ready. My first experience riding a motorcycle, it had no front brakes and only a rear drum, and the engine only ran on 1 cylinder below 2500 rpm.

I once had to essentially redo all my wiring in a gas station parking lot in the middle of a hood at 3:00 in the morning, using only a razor blade and some electrical tape. Because it was a 77 gs750 and i had rewired it from scratch, I was able to accomplish that. I realize that new bikes don't have many issues, but when they do, its way more involved. I could carry a 10mm wrench, a screwdriver, and a couple Allen keys and fix my bike 90% of the time it broke down (which was a dozen times over 2 years, mostly due to upgrading/replacing parts, and making little errors when installing them).

I started as lazy retro rider. But soon got a broken down 78 suzuki gs750. Was forced to learn to clean and tune the carbs (I removed the carbs over 50 times to get them perfect). Got it running perfectly at oem idle and rebuilt the wiring harnes to oem spec. I then cafed it soon after this. Removed the electric start because I am now a retro purist. The work pays off in the end, I now have a bike that turns heads, sounds great, and I did it with my own enginuity and hard work

My first bike was a $700 1987 Yamaha radian that was abused so bad that it was better suited as a mad max display than a real motorcycle. • @Spensa10
    @Spensa10 2 года назад +2

Oh hey! I'm a beginner UJM! Got into it because, well, the option came up.
I did it because I want to learn mechanical stuff on a simpler bike, I love the look, I love the sound, and I love the cruiser feel with mid controls.
When things got out of hand with the carburetors I took it to a mechanic. Mechanic suggested a newer bike. I looked, but none of the new bikes I've seen have all 3
    1. the seating position
    2. the sound
    3. great touring capability.
Number 3 is actually a huge part, because old Honda CBs had the option to basically turn it into a full dress tourer.

The one that shows up at Cafe Racer nights with a Cb650R, a Husky Pilen 401, or heck, even a SV650X (yes, the X version, cause it comes with the "retro style" stitching on the seat). This rider will spend hundreds on the latest "retro inspired" CE AAA approved leathers, gloves and jeans, only to pair em up with a cheap Hjc helmet with a drop-down visor. They will not mod their bikes in any shape or form to avoid losing their factory warranty and will start telling you how their TC and ABS are what's jacking up the price of their rebodied Duke 390, or how much of their modern 650's plastic design is inspired by classic UJMs. You'll find them buying generic bolt on headlight grills and amazon bar end mirrors, but they'll keep the original parts in the garage for when their finance scheme runs over and they need to return the bike to buy the newest model.

Again, my first bike was a 79' KZ1000 ST I paid $400 for and put another $400 into it to get a sticker. Had a cheap paintjob, learned on it, rode it like I stole it after I got comfortable. Liked it so much, bought another one w/19k original mi on it in South Hero, VT, drove there from SE NH to pick it up. So I have 2 technically. The 2nd one w/an original backrest/luggage rack. Still don't seem to fit your stereotypes really, as I dragged pegs on both, and I have 2 different style bikes as well. Checked out a Ducati Monster once, got off it as I realized it was 1/2 the weight of the KZ w/more HP. Not scared, more like "Oh hell yeah, I'll be dead or arrested on this." 😆

I love retro bikes and classics, I’ve owned my share over the years, and I have to say this is spot on. Now to go find the vid with Yammie in flannel and a fake hipster beard.

Looks like I was a UJM beginner XD, Found a 1980 CB750custom that was running for less than $1,000. Tore it down with my dad, repainted it and then proceeded to throw over 20,000 miles of my own onto it. Just got myself a 94 Shadow 1100 and staying on the road :)

YES - as a Royal Enfield rider, fairly accurate. Except in my area, lotta the people riding em I've noticed are either 1. younger folks (like me) getting into riding that like the style 2. older riders that started on cafe style and went to Harley's or something, but are now going back, but don't want to go commit Triumph again just yet.
(can't knock the 3 year warranty a new one comes with - need to replace my speedo sensor, a common problem apparently on new ones)

Don't mind me, I'll just mutter about "character" and "soul" as I hop on my '75 cb750f SUPER SPORT YO....it's got a broomstick handlebar complete with bar end mirrors, rattle can paint job, heat wrapped straight pipe that I made myself, center stand chopped off, replacement side covers because the originals turned to dust, and o yeah, original factory airbox instead of pods, because I need it to actually run.

The good thing about riding a cafe racer in your fifties is that you don’t give a shit what anyone thinks!

I'm probably a combination of the 2nd and third one.
I want a bike like the instagram greats in the cafe racer community
But I have a Yamaha RS110f with clip ons
I still have not spent a dime on making it look more like a cafe racer so basically number 2
My professional cycling career leaves me with almost no time to tinker with my bike so much so that the only thing I know to adjust on my carburetor is the idle.
So far the only thing I've spent money on this bike since I got it after my sister died riding it is
    -an oil change
    -new brake pads
-new brake cables(yes I'm on drum brakes f&r)
    -new inner tubes
    -Clip ons
    -side mirrors
I have not chopped the rear end to weld on a u shaped tube to make it look more like a cafe racer yet, then I don't have the cafe racer themed seat as well. At this point the only good thing on my bike is the engine, drivetrain, and suspension and the entire motorcycle is worth about 1/15th of what my bicycle is worth. I also barely ride it because I don't really have money for gas and it isn't registered.

I want you to guide me for my second bike
    So i have a aprilia rs660
Then i realize i need to have a street bike for everyday use
But I don't know what bike is the best
Don't wasted too much gas, still look cool
    Don't need too much power
