Oh man..can't believe it lost you! There's a reason this is the closing track live most of the time... Greatest outro ever 😃 Each to their own though, loving the reactions!
Outro grows on you and after a time it becomes most anticipated part of the song. It used to bore me in my first listens, until I made a custom 3 hour track of that part just to keep it looping and looping.. and Opeth does this type of track closures on multiples songs, so brace yourself for more =)
Some other opeth songs to check out: -Moonlapse vertigo from the Still life album -Demon of the fall from my arms your hearse -The leper affinity from blackwater park
Funny the outro is considered one of the best, but if you do not like it at first I am pretty sure you will in the future 😁 This song is probably in my top 10 Opeth songs and Mikael often speak about it as a "classic" Opeth song 🎸
It's a first listen. I kinda had the same feeling first time I heard this as well. Then you pop it into you car for a Sunday afternoon drive and it take's on another personality. Give it a few more listens. Try Ghost Of Perdition. Or maybe Coil/Heir Apparent. Or one of my favorites, Bleak.
Hey man, i totally agree with you about the end of this song, for me once or twice round that last section would have been enough! I would recommend the funeral portrait, blackwater park, or the baying of the hounds next all full of great riffs
Agree with you, I love Opeth but as a person with probably not enough patience, the intros and outtros are usually a bit on the long side for me. But I guess that's part of being prog. I remember when Devin Townsend made his song "The Mighty Masturbator" which was kind of a spoof on progressive metal and he explained he deliberately made the outtro overstay its welcome because it was the prog thing to do. Totally feel the same :D
The response to this song is very different based on the person. For most people, the ending is the best part of the song to them. But I am like you. I much preferred the previous parts. And though I have come to appreciate the ending part more over time, it did wear on me in the same ways you described. Thanks for giving your honest opinion!
At least Deliverance has something going on at the end, unlike "By the Pain I See in Others," which is just dead air for four and a half minutes, minus the reversed speech at the 12 minute mark. Since you have listened to songs off of Deliverance, Ghost Reveries, Watershed, and one of the new singles, maybe take it back to their breakout album, "Blackwater Park?" The title track absolutely rips, but there is a long interlude + no clean vocals.

Greatest outro ever!! I agree.
I concur, greatest outro ever!
Opeth is a necessary food for balanced, healthy metal diet.

The best outro ever made. :)
Even if you don't like this epic outro - during live shows there is no better ending for a live show than this ending .

YEEES! Demon of the fall live from roundhouse tapes and Leper Affinity live from Sheperds bush pls

I totally understand what you are saying about the outro, but I bet it will grow on you over the years :>

I could listen to that last 4 minutes for hours. Hahaha!
Opeth music makes my brain orgasm. Blackwater park album/ the grand conjuration/ damnation are all bangers back to back.
🔥🔥❤Opeth❤🔥🔥
oh yes mate, i havent even watched your reaction yet... but oh yes
This is their "A Day In The Life".
